The Last Omo Ogun (Son Of War)

Chapter 5: THE ROAD BEYOND

EXT. AJILOMI OUTSKIRTS – DAWN

The sun rises, casting a golden glow over the vast lands beyond Ajilomi.

Akin stands at the village's outer boundary, staring at the winding path ahead.

For the first time in his life—he is alone.

He adjusts the small leather bag strapped across his shoulder. It carries only the bare essentials:

A small dagger (a gift from his mother).

Dried meat and a waterskin.

A piece of Ajilomi's sacred chalk, a fragment of home.

Behind him, the gates of Ajilomi remain shut.

No one comes to bid him farewell.

He grips the strap of his bag tightly.

"I will not return weak."

With that, he takes his first step beyond Ajilomi.

EXT. FOREST PATH – LATER

The world outside is wilder than Akin imagined.

The trees loom taller. The air is thicker. The sounds of distant creatures echo through the leaves.

He walks for hours, alert but determined.

"Survive. Learn. Grow."

Then—he hears rustling.

Akin stops.

His fingers tighten around the dagger.

The bushes shift.

A shadow moves.

Something—or someone—is following him.

EXT. FOREST CLEARING – MOMENTS LATER

Akin bursts into a clearing.

He spins, dagger raised.

The rustling stops.

Silence.

A single crow caws above.

Then—

A LAUGH.

Akin stiffens.

The voice is young, but filled with mischief.

UNKNOWN VOICE

"You're not very good at hiding, are you?"

A figure drops from a tree branch, landing lightly.

It's a boy, around Akin's age—but different.

His skin is dark bronze, his hair short and unkempt. A playful smirk tugs at his lips.

But what catches Akin's attention most—

Are his eyes.

Golden.

Like they hold the sun itself.

UNKNOWN BOY

"I've been watching you since you left Ajilomi."

Akin tightens his grip on his dagger.

AKIN

"Who are you?"

The boy tilts his head.

UNKNOWN BOY

"A traveler. Like you."

His smirk widens.

UNKNOWN BOY

"Only difference is… I already know where I'm going."

Akin narrows his eyes.

AKIN

"Then why follow me?"

The boy shrugs.

UNKNOWN BOY

"Because you're interesting."

Akin doesn't lower his dagger.

AKIN

"That's not a good enough reason."

The boy chuckles.

UNKNOWN BOY

"Fair enough."

He steps forward, eyes twinkling.

UNKNOWN BOY

"My name is OLADELE."

He nods toward Akin's dagger.

OLADELE

"And if you plan to survive out here… you'll need better training than that."

EXT. FOREST PATH – TRAVELING TOGETHER

Akin and Oladele walk side by side.

Despite his suspicion, Akin quickly realizes—Oladele knows the land well.

He moves silently, avoiding dangers Akin never noticed.

He can track footprints with ease.

He can hear things—things Akin can't.

After hours of walking, Akin finally speaks.

AKIN

"You're not from Ajilomi."

OLADELE

"Obviously."

AKIN

"Then where?"

Oladele grins.

OLADELE

"From a place you've never heard of."

Akin scowls.

AKIN

"That doesn't answer anything."

Oladele laughs.

OLADELE

"It answers everything."

Akin exhales sharply.

"This boy is annoying."

But before he can say more—

Oladele suddenly stops.

His entire body tenses.

Akin frowns.

AKIN

"What is it?"

Oladele doesn't answer.

He grabs Akin's arm and pulls him down behind a fallen tree.

OLADELE

(whispering)

"Stay low."

Akin's heart races.

Then—he hears it.

Hoofbeats.

Heavy. Many.

Akin peeks through the leaves.

His blood runs cold.

EXT. FOREST PATH – BANDITS APPEAR

A group of men on horseback emerge onto the path.

They wear leather armor, mismatched but deadly.

Their leader—a scarred man with a cracked nose—holds a bloodstained axe.

BANDIT LEADER

"Spread out. Find them."

Akin stiffens.

"They're hunting someone."

Oladele's grip tightens on Akin's arm.

OLADELE

(whispering)

"They're looking for me."

Akin's eyes widen.

AKIN

"You—?"

Oladele doesn't explain.

Instead, he whispers two words.

OLADELE

"Run. Now."

Akin doesn't argue.

They bolt.

EXT. DENSE FOREST – NIGHT

Akin and Oladele run.

The bandits give chase.

Torches flicker behind them.

The sound of dogs barking fills the air.

Akin's chest burns, legs screaming.

They leap over roots. Dodge branches.

But the bandits are fast.

Too fast.

Akin's foot catches a root—

He stumbles.

Oladele spins back.

OLADELE

"Get up!"

Akin pushes himself up.

But it's too late.

A bandit—sword raised—

Charges straight for him.

Akin freezes.

The blade swings down—

And then—

Something erupts inside Akin.

A flash of blue light.

His vision flickers.

His hand moves.

The dagger—once dull—glows.

The bandit's sword shatters on impact.

Silence.

The bandit stares.

Akin blinks, panting.

Oladele watches with sharp eyes.

OLADELE

(softly)

"Interesting."

The bandits hesitate.

Then—

The leader snarls.

BANDIT LEADER

"KILL THEM BOTH!"

Akin grips his glowing dagger.

He isn't running anymore.

EXT. DENSE FOREST – NIGHT

The bandit leader's roar shakes the trees.

BANDIT LEADER

"KILL THEM BOTH!"

The bandits surge forward.

Akin tightens his grip on the glowing dagger. His heart pounds. His limbs tremble.

"What was that power? How did I—?"

No time to think.

A sword slashes toward him.

Akin ducks, rolls, and swings his dagger—

A blue arc of energy slashes through the air, striking the bandit's chest.

The man is flung back, crashing into a tree.

Akin stares at his own hand.

"That... was me?"

Oladele doesn't waste time.

He moves like a shadow, twisting and weaving through the chaos.

Two bandits rush at him—

He vaults over them, grabs a hanging branch, and flips mid-air.

CRACK!

His heel smashes into the first bandit's jaw.

Before the second can react, Oladele lands and drives a knee into his ribs.

Both men collapse.

He grins.

OLADELE

"This is fun!"

Akin barely hears him.

More bandits close in.

He raises his dagger again—

But his vision suddenly blurs.

The blue energy flickers.

His legs feel weak.

His breathing stutters.

"What's happening?!"

EXT. FOREST BATTLE – STRUGGLE

A bandit sees Akin's hesitation and charges.

Akin tries to lift his dagger—

Too slow.

The bandit's sword slashes across his arm.

Akin hisses in pain.

Blood drips.

The glow in his dagger dims further.

Oladele sees this.

His smirk vanishes.

OLADELE

"Hey! Don't pass out on me!"

Akin stumbles back, panting.

The power inside him—it's draining him.

He isn't ready to control it.

A bandit lifts an axe.

Akin barely has time to react—

SWOOSH!

An arrow whistles through the air—

And pierces the bandit's throat.

Akin and Oladele freeze.

The remaining bandits hesitate.

A new voice speaks from the shadows.

UNKNOWN VOICE

"That's enough."

EXT. FOREST PATH – A NEW PRESENCE

From the trees, a woman emerges.

She wears a dark hooded cloak, her face partially hidden.

In her hands—a bow.

Another arrow already notched.

The bandits recognize her.

Their eyes widen in fear.

BANDIT LEADER

"You…!"

The woman steps forward.

UNKNOWN WOMAN

"Leave. Now."

Her voice is cold. Commanding.

The bandits hesitate.

Then—they retreat.

The bandit leader snarls.

BANDIT LEADER

"This isn't over!"

He spits on the ground before disappearing into the night.

Silence.

Akin collapses to his knees, breathing heavily.

The woman walks toward them, lowering her bow.

She studies Akin's glowing dagger—now flickering dimly.

UNKNOWN WOMAN

"You have power. But you don't know how to use it."

Akin forces himself to meet her gaze.

AKIN

"Who… are you?"

She pulls back her hood.

Revealing a scarred but striking face.

UNKNOWN WOMAN

"My name is IWA. And if you want to survive what's coming next… you'll need my help."

Akin's chest tightens.

What's coming next?
