Chapter 45: Chapter 35 Emotional Intelligence_2
Mibor spoke indifferently, "Go ahead."
Rod said loudly, "As you all know, I have only recently ignited the Soul Fire. Previously I was an ordinary person. How could the Doomsday Cult choose an ordinary person to help execute the murder of several hundred relocating people?"
Iron Mask scoffed coldly, "Although you were not a Fire Holder before, you could still wield extraordinary power."
Rod wisely maneuvered around the subject he was unfamiliar with, "This Mr. Marsh, could you please use your wisdom to think about this? If I had done this, why would I stay alone at the original scene? And the immensely wise Miss Blue White..."
Lauren coughed:
"It is Guardian Aligali Dan Qingyu."
Rod immediately corrected himself, "Thus, the wise and beautiful Guardian Qingyu, why would she let me, a highly suspected individual, go? Even allowing me some freedom within Royal City, isn't she afraid that allowing a Doomsday believer to roam freely could cause tremendous destruction?"
Iron Mask coldly said, "Perhaps there is some underhanded business going on."
Rod scoffed, "Yes, everyone is bad, only you are good. Do you think you are running a winery?"
Although Iron Mask did not understand what a winery meant, the thick sarcasm in the words was clear, and his tone instantly turned even icier.
"Clever retorts are useless. You were the only survivor at the scene. You claim you have amnesia, yet the Doomsday believer Grey Cat Alai had your letters in his pocket, and you killed the Priest of Lies, Bas, silencing our most crucial lead. All the evidence firmly points to you. I do not understand why Guardian Qingyu is protecting you. Perhaps I should suggest to the King that we revisit her candidacy."
As soon as the words left his mouth, the atmosphere turned very delicate; everyone's expression grew somewhat unnatural.
But Rod's mind was set.
Surely, this was not just a dispute about the case but involved deeper issues.
So, he would not be easily abandoned.
"I think we should return to discussing the case."
Black Bear broke the awkward silence with his slightly aged voice:
"Tracking down the Polluter Sect is our most important task. I believe none of you would like to see them destroy our warm home and the sole place we have to live, right?"
His light-colored eyes swept over everyone, and his calm gaze had a peculiar power that settled everyone down.
Mibor nodded and said:
"I strongly agree with Mr. Black Bear. Royal City and the Holy Fire are our everything. Unless someone steps over my dead body, no one can destroy our home. As for Rod's trial, we must be careful. Even a little caprice from us, who wield great power, is a mountain of despair for an individual. If the only home he has doesn't love him, besides committing suicide or turning to darkness, I can't imagine a second way out."
Blue Moon said approvingly:
"Mibor speaks well. This is also what our King advocates. He wants home to be everyone's home, not just some people's."
Iron Mask's eyes flickered with a hint of disgust and he said coldly, "We have much to do. Let's proceed with the interrogation."
Black Bear nodded slightly and turned his gaze to Rod, speaking calmly, "Rod, please answer all of my following questions truthfully."
Rod nodded.
"Do you remember what your relationship was with Grey Cat Alai, the clerk from Gray Moss Street Office?"
Rod shook his head, "I don't remember."
"Do you remember living on Beck Street in the second largest area of the Outer City District for three years?"
"I don't remember."
"Why did you kill Bas?"
"I didn't think much of it. I was dragged into an unknown space, I was scared and unaware of his importance. Lord Lauren's battle was going poorly, he was being attacked by many glass-like giants, I was worried he would be killed, so when I saw Bas's figure, I shot him."
Iron Mask's icy voice interjected.
"Why could you see Bas who was hidden by high-level talismans?"
"Because my Fire Spark ability allows me to see through phantoms."
Iron Mask scoffed, "But your Fire Spark is named Black Rice Bucket. The Mechanical Research Institute uses ancient technology, which can recognize the slightest waveforms in your soul, find the essence of your soul, and display it with the most suitable words. You can't deceive us."
Mibor frowned and said, "Mr. Manolo Bana, the tools from the Mechanical Research Institute are not very reliable; they often malfunction strangely. For example, my Soul Trait is Spirit Shock, but the first time I was tested, it displayed 'Spitter', and it was only corrected after a scholar found the relevant records in the Great Book Library. We can't use this as evidence."
Blue Moon suddenly asked, "What is your Spiritual Vision?"
Rod thought for a moment and answered, "I think it's eighty."
Blue Moon flicked her finger, and a small patch of mist blocked her hand, "What number is on my hand?"
Rod activated his Spiritual Vision, then the Eye of the Soul, and looked up. The mist turned into a fine sparkle, and her glowing hand was forming a "two" sign.
"Two."
"Now?"
"Six."
Blue Moon withdrew the mist, revealing a radiant smile, "It seems Jinworth Academy is about to see another rising star."
