Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Ice and Iron Unleashed!!
Stepping into the open area, Tatsuya and Miyuki faced a man flanked by a dozen subordinates—clearly the leader.
"You're Tatsuya Shiba, right? And this princess is your sister, Miyuki?" the man said.
"You're Blanche's leader," Tatsuya replied.
"Right you are! Let's start with introductions. I'm Tsukasa Hajime, Blanche's leader," he said, adjusting his glasses with a refined air.
Despite his polished demeanor, Tatsuya and Miyuki sensed the undeniable aura of Blanche's mastermind.
"Last chance to surrender," Tatsuya said, aiming his CAD, Silver Horn, at the group. "Drop your weapons, hands behind your heads."
Hajime eyed Tatsuya with amusement, as if watching a show.
"Thought you'd bring a gun, but that's just a CAD," Hajime said. "Even magicians die when shot."
"I'm not a magician," Tatsuya said.
"Oh, right, just a student," Hajime mocked. "But let's clear something up—you're the ones surrendering. Think you can walk away from these numbers? We've sunk serious time and money into this plan. You, who've meddled, won't walk free. That said, your Cast Jamming without Antinite is intriguing. Join us, and we'll let this slide."
"So, using Mibu-senpai and her brother Tsukasa-senpai to get to me was for that?" Tatsuya asked.
"Sharp kid," Hajime said, tossing his glasses aside to stare into Tatsuya's eyes. "But coming here so naively? Still a child."
"Shiba Tatsuya, join us!" Hajime shouted.
A blinding light shot toward Tatsuya. When it faded, his expression went blank, his outstretched arm dropping limply.
"Onii-sama?" Miyuki gasped.
"Haha! You're ours now!" Hajime laughed.
"!?"
Miyuki stared, disbelief etched on her face. Her brother, defeated by this magician? Impossible. Yet, she felt nothing from him.
"Now, finish off your sister," Hajime ordered. "She'd want it to be by your hand."
Hajime's casual command to kill revealed his ruthlessness—only someone used to such orders could speak so lightly.
"Enough with the cheap act," Tatsuya said, his voice cutting through. "It's embarrassing."
"What!?" Hajime snapped.
"Onii-sama!" Miyuki cried, relief flooding her as she sensed unmistakable killing intent from her brother. He hadn't fallen.
"Consciousness-interference magic, 'Evil Eye,'" Tatsuya said. "You call it that, but it's just light-wave vibration magic—a hypnosis trick, reproducible with visuals. You used this to tamper with Mibu-senpai's memories, didn't you?"
"So, Onii-sama," Miyuki said, "Mibu-senpai was…"
"Yeah," Tatsuya confirmed. "Her memories were altered. A misunderstanding she'd have seen through if she'd calmed down, but she carried it for a year."
"You filth!" Miyuki spat.
The word, so unlike her usual grace, made Hajime flinch.
"Why didn't it work!?" he demanded.
"Your magic's just a light signal without the hypnosis pattern," Tatsuya said. "Useless."
"Who are you!?" Hajime growled.
"What happened to 'you'?" Tatsuya taunted. "Your big-shot mask's slipping."
Furious, Hajime barked at his men. "What are you doing!? He's just a Course 2 student who can't use magic well! Forget capturing—shoot him!"
As the terrorists raised their machine guns, Tatsuya thrust out his right arm, operating his CAD at a speed invisible to them.
"Argh!"
"My gun!"
"What happened!?"
In an instant, the guns disintegrated into parts. Tatsuya had used one of his two true magics, far beyond what mere terrorists could comprehend.
"The guns… fell apart!?" Hajime stammered.
He couldn't see or understand Tatsuya's magic, mistaking it for spontaneous destruction.
"Damn it!" Hajime shouted, bolting.
"Wait!" Tatsuya called, chasing after him.
A terrorist lunged at Tatsuya with a knife.
"Let him go!?"
He froze mid-strike.
"Fool," Miyuki said.
"Easy, now," Tatsuya said. "They're not worth dirtying your hands."
"Yes, Onii-sama," Miyuki replied.
With that warning, Tatsuya sprinted after Hajime.
"What's this cold…?" a terrorist muttered.
"You're unlucky," Miyuki said. "If you hadn't tried to harm Onii-sama, you'd have gotten off lightly."
One man, frozen at her feet, had acted enough to warrant her wrath, but Miyuki wasn't satisfied.
"My body…" another gasped.
"This magic…" a third whispered.
"I'm not as merciful as Onii-sama," Miyuki said.
A chilling aura surged around her, freezing Blanche's members in moments.
Wide-Area Vibration Deceleration Magic: Niflheim
Miyuki's signature spell engulfed the terrorists, locking them in ice.
"Pray you still have your lives," she said.
Confirming their frozen state, Miyuki decided to leave. Her heart wavered, thinking of the lives she'd halted, yearning for her brother's strength. But this wasn't the time to lean on him. Steeling herself, she headed for the exit.
Tasked with securing the exit, Erika and Leo grumbled at the lack of action.
"Boring," Erika sighed.
"Can't help it," Leo said. "Tatsuya wouldn't let enemies slip, and Miyuki's there too."
"I know," Erika said. "Wait—Leo, look!"
She pointed to a Blanche member, gun in hand, scanning nervously.
"Careful, he's armed—" Leo started.
Before he finished, Erika charged.
"Boring!" she shouted, knocking the man out with a single blow.
"Really, you're a menace," Leo said.
"That's it?" Erika asked. "No more coming in droves?"
"As if," Leo scoffed.
Even Leo couldn't help but sigh at her recklessness.
"You? Sighing? Doesn't suit you," Erika teased.
"Shut up!" Leo snapped.
No matter the situation, these two were doomed to bicker.
