The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1568: Immortal Slugs

Rex's lips curled when he saw notifications appearing for a minute or two now.

All of them were kill notifications.

It seemed the others were busy down there, but he wasn't worried.

Other than the time dilation, which would make it unlikely for them to get into trouble in such a short span of time, the System would also notify him if the others were in danger. As long as there were only kill notifications and no warning notifications, he had nothing to worry about.

Currently, Rex was still waiting for his departure.

Rosa was still preparing the necessities.

After the incident with the knife, it was a rather uneventful waiting period.

But once he was notified that he could depart now, another guard stepped inside—before Rex could even stand up from the sofa. He raised an eyebrow, looking at the guard in question, and noticed a scroll in the guard's hand.

"I'm here to deliver this to you, Lord Rex."

"Me? Who is it from?"

Rex accepted the scroll and looked at the surface for any markings.

He could find none.

"It's from Princess April."

"Oh, I see…" Rex looked at the scroll for the second time before he waved. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." The guard saluted and exited the room.

Amanir looked at the scroll with a blank face.

"A love letter?"

"I doubt that. She's not the type."

Not wasting a single more second, Rex opened the scroll and read its content.

He read it until the very end, before he shook his head, smiling.

"See, it's a damn love letter."

"No, it's the list of requirements I need to fulfil to go to the Sky City. Saved us the trouble."

Even though Rex told April that she was curious about his reason for being in this realm, this was a pleasant surprise. He wouldn't need to bother finding out more about the Sky City—since everything was written in this scroll.

"Let's go."

Rex, Amanir, and Kraken got up and exited the room.

Following a maid who was already waiting for them outside the room, they were guided outside.

Based on the maid, they would be given a royal carriage bearing the house's flag and pulled by the universal traveling royal mount called the Sky King. It's a type of spirit beast that was used by every single royal household of the empire.

A spirit beast that could ride the Black Rift's current and was unbothered by it.

And since it was such an important spirit beast, it was taken care of in the garden in the backyard.

Upon making a turn on the corner, the maid stopped.

Rex was expecting to arrive at where the carriage was, but was surprised to see Edward instead.

It was the same for the maid; she was surprised.

"Prince Edward, aren't you supposed to be in your study room?"

"I'm studying sword-wielding, so I thought I'd tag along with Lord Rex."

"Ah, you must ask the Great Elder's permission for something like that, Prince Edward."

As opposed to heeding the maid's words, Edward walked past her and looked at Rex.

He lifted his chin to make eye contact.

"Can I come?"

"Absolutely not."

Rex turned to the maid and gestured for her to lead the way again.

But Edward stood in his way.

"I won't get in the way, only to watch. I want to learn sword-wielding practically, so I want to observe it in action."

"No, it's dangerous, and I don't want to."

Once again, Rex tried to walk past him, but was blocked.

"Can't you wield a sword? A Lord without expertise in sword-wielding is no Lord at all."

"I can wield a sword or any weapon for that matter, so don't test me."

Rex flicked his forehead hard, leaving behind a red circle, which was instantly covered by Edward's small hands. Straightening his back again, Rex moved Edward out of the way and walked past him. No way that he'd brought Edward along.

"I heard you wanted to marry Princess Davina!"

As he was a couple of steps away, Edward's voice rang again.

Hearing this, Rex tilted his head skyward to look at the bright sky exasperatedly, and turned around.

"And?"

"Princess Davina is quite picky. Nobody in countless years matched her standard, not even the Crown Prince. It'll be a waste of time to pursue her without knowing exactly what her standards are."

Rex's eyes narrowed.

Clearly, Edward knew something, and he was using it as bait.

It was annoying that he was treated like this by a kid, but he kind of needed it right now.

He needs all the information he can get.

"Do you know something?"

"I don't know… Noble heirs are usually quite close to each other to further one another through a healthy competition. I have friends everywhere, including those who are close to the Lorcan Household. But on second thought, you got this, Lord Rex, you can do it without my help. Good luck!"

Casting a smile, Edward turned around to leave.

But Rex called before he could take a step.

"Wait…"

Almost instantly, his smile turned into a smirk.

Slowly, he turned around and watched as Rex approached him again.

"What do you want?"

"I already told you what I want. Take me with you to observe, and I'll find out her standards."

"You don't have anything right now?"

"I don't, but I'm confident that I could. Of course, if you don't trust me, I understand."

Once again, Edward tried to walk away, but Rex grabbed him by his shoulders.

"Alright, fine, I'll take you with me, but you have to get her standards before I'm finished."

"Just bring me along. Tomorrow, I'll make one visit and get what you want."

Rex massaged his throbbing forehead, not because this was a bad thing, but because he couldn't believe that a kid was able to do something like this to him. But then again, it was his mistake for treating Prince Edward as a kid.

He's a really educated kid, so naturally, this was within his capabilities.

"Alright, you can come."

"Ye-!"

Before Edward could celebrate, Rex raised a finger.

"But if you do anything to disturb me, I'm sending you back home."

"I understand. I'll be as silent as a rock!"

"Let's go."

Just like that, Rex departed, killing Master Immortal Spirit and Immortal Spirit rank Voidal Knights that Rosa marked on the map. Of course, he was only slaughtering the Voidal Knights that were under the jurisdiction of Rosa's House, but that was already plenty enough.

Days passed.

Rex amassed Life Gems and Nightfall Stars with each Voidal Knight he killed.

He also took some time to continue cultivating his assimilated Echoes, starting his progress to the next rank, the Eternal Spirit rank. Fortunately, it went smoothly. In quite some time, Rex has finally tasted stability as he hunted down the marked Voidal Knights.

Considering his current power, killing the Immortal Spirit rank special Voidal Knights is easy.

As for those at the Master Immortal Spirit rank, he was helped by the others.

Not because he couldn't beat these Voidal Knights, but because he was in a race against time.

In a bit over two days, he had already taken down half of the Voidal Knights.

Since the locations of these Voidal Knights were spread out, along the fringes, Rex and the others turned their attention to those scattered at the edges first before tackling those near the heart of the land, where the Voidal Knights were way closer to each other than those at the edges.

So, the hard part was already completed.

He should be finished tomorrow or early at the fourth day.

"It's cleaner today," Edward commented.

As opposed to what he promised of getting the information about Davina's standards, for a husband, traits that she was looking for from the participants of the Nameless Dragon Arena tournament, Edward got the information that Davina had an altercation with the Duke instead.

Edward came with an embarrassed face, knowing that he had failed his side of the bargain.

But Rex decided to allow him to stay.

Not because he pities Edward, but because the information was really viable.

Based on Edward's friend, Davina was angry at the Duke for replacing her mother already with another woman, who was also far below his age. Not to mention, the gap in status was also massive, which made her angrier.

Edward might not see the value in that, but Rex did.

From what he heard, Davina looked up to the Duke until this woman appeared.

So, one of two things must've happened.

Either Davina was emotional, angry that Duke Lorcan replaced her mother quickly, or Duke Lorcan, in a way, changed, turning into a version that Davina didn't like. Her reputation told Rex that she was an ice princess.

Cold and untouchable.

Rex has met with her once, so he can attest to that rumor.

Naturally, the reason must be the latter.

Duke Lorcan changed.

And all Rex needed to do was to be the opposite of how Duke Lorcan was now acting around that woman.

Rex looked down at the borrowed, bloodied sword in his hand and sighed.

"Yes, the Voidal Knight didn't struggle much today."

He grabbed a towel from Viora and went to stand beside the carriage to wipe the blood.

Edward scooted over and leaned against the carriage.

"Did you really hate using a sword that much?"

"No, not really. I usually used a sword, a katana to be exact. I have one called the Amuerus Katana."

"So why do you seem more annoyed today than yesterday? Exactly when you wield a sword."

Rex only wielded a sword today since the deal with Edward was that he wanted to learn sword-wielding in action. Yesterday, he used his claws to end the Voidal Knights, but today, to honor the deal, he used a sword.

"I'm not annoyed at all, you're looking into things."

"O…kay"

In truth, Rex was really annoyed.

Perhaps because of the approaching Blood Moon—or even the taste of turning into the very Invincible Apparition whom he dreaded for the longest time, but killing with a sword became annoying. He could not feel anything.

More pleasant to kill the Voidal Knights with his claws or even his Soul Artifacts.

That way, he could feel the throb of flesh and blood.

Glancing to the side, he reached out his hand toward Viora.

"Where are we going next? Give me the map."

"…"

Rex raised an eyebrow when he found Viora not answering, her gaze vacant ahead.

"Viora!"

He called again, louder this time.

Hearing this, Viora blinked and realized that Rex was talking to her.

"What do you need?"

"The map. Give it to me."

Nodding her head, she took out the map from the bag and handed it over to Rex.

Rex took the map, but stared at her for a couple of seconds longer, trying to see through her mind before he turned away—and laid the map on the carriage's floor. There are only about eleven Voidal Knights remaining; all of them were at the Immortal Spirit rank.

For the nearest one, it was about eight miles away, really close to their position.

It was around ten minutes away.

"It's going to be a long road going to the next one." Edward suddenly said.

Rex raised an eyebrow, "Long road? It's ten minutes away."

Pushing Rex away from the map, he pointed at the place between their location and the next location.

"Between us and that place is a pond of Immortal Slugs; we have to go around it."

"Immortal Slugs?"

"A Voidal Monster, a special one since it wasn't connected to any Voidal Monarchs around. As the name suggests—Immortal Slugs are immortal. Nothing can kill it, not even the Emperor himself. But what made it really scary wasn't its immortality, but its corruption and inability to feel pain."

A tinge of warning could be heard in Edward's voice.

Clearly, the Immortal Slugs aren't something to mess with.

"It latched onto anything that it wants. Anyone who got touched for too long would be corrupted and pulled into a world of pain, merging with it for eternity. You won't die, you will stay alive inside it for eternity." He continued.

Upon hearing this, Rex frowned.

"Isn't it dangerous for us to be that close to it?"

"Nope. As long as we're not disturbing it, we're fine. It's lazy, it doesn't like to move."

"Fine. We go around it then."
