Chapter 1511: Forsaken Tower (3)
Rex was focused, but his heart pounded hard inside.
He had miscalculated—the upper floors turned out to be a trap.
Seeing how the Voidal Monsters were staying put and looking down at him and the others, he should've known that it was a trap. But as far as the Voidal Monsters were concerned, there were none of them—who had remarkable intelligence.
Luring him into a trap shouldn't be in their playbook, but it was, and it happened.
Boom!
A thunderous booming sound echoed as the gate was shut, trapping them on the upper floors.
Following the closing of the gate was the disappearance of the barrier that both separated them from all the Voidal Monsters and also that separated each floor. Then, the entire tower hummed and trembled, creating this hollowness in the air.
Rex glanced at the coffin walls and saw the corpses glow and turn into suction tools.
All their mouths snapped open, and then, Rex, along with the others, was slammed back to the ground.
Landing on the closed gate, Rex quickly recovered before the worst thing happened.
Swish!
Suddenly, the life energy within him became unresponsive for a second, forcing all of his Soul Artifacts to flicker, teetering in the verge of being deactivated. Instead of worrying about himself, Rex turned to check on the others and found a dreadful sight.
Almost all of the soldiers lost their Soul Artifacts.
Not a trace of life energy could be felt from them, as if they were nothing more than normal people.
No, less than normal people—they looked like they didn't even have a Soul Artifact.
Other than Rex, Viora, Crimoria, Linthia, the heirs, and two other soldiers—the rest lost their powers.
<Notice: The Forsaken Tower has suspended life energy in time!>
<Notice: The user's Soul Artifacts are too strong to be suspended in time!>
Reading the notifications, Rex frowned—this seemed to be one of the Forsaken Tower's effects.
Only those who have strong Soul Artifacts could battle this effect.
But Rex couldn't think about this for long.
All of the Voidal Monsters were lunging from their floors and straight at them.
Due to their sheer numbers, the summit of the tower was blotted by their grotesque and twisted forms.
It was akin to a dark cloud descending upon them.
Realizing that it would be an all-out brawl with the soldiers not being able to protect themselves, Rex gritted his teeth as many would certainly die. But then, he saw a radiant golden light coming from the side, enveloping the entire space.
Priestess Viora.
Knowing the situation was rather dire, Viora summoned her Soul Artifact.
Suspending in the air behind her appeared a radiant, golden construct shaped like a solar crown.
It consists of concentric rings laced with sigils and celestial symbols.
Despite the suppression from the tower, she has no problem controlling her life energy—as well as her Soul Artifact. Possessing a piece of the Saintess' power allowed her to bypass the suppression and come to the rescue.
Shooting upward, she crossed her arms and channeled her life energy throughout her entire form.
And once she opened her arms, like unfolding wings, a radiant golden shockwave exploded from her.
Boom!
It fired upward, and Rex saw the Voidal Monsters were all pushed back and thrown away, crashing onto the coffin walls—or each other. Once she did that, she hurriedly looked down at Rex, "Those who can still fight, come up, quick!"
Hearing this, Rex nodded and made a leap to the second floor of the upper floors.
Following right behind him were Linthia, Crimoria, the Voidal Knights, along with the heirs.
Once all of them reached the second floor, Viora made a circular motion with her hand and covered the hollow center of the second floor with a gold barrier. It would provide them with a footing against the Voidal Monsters as well as protect the helpless soldiers at the very bottom.
Since none of them could use their life energy, they were basically useless.
Rex understood why Viora was doing this.
And he also knew the reason why there were no survivors, even though there were many windows.
It was because of this, the suppression of power made most of them powerless.
Moreover, from the looks of it, those who were infected would need time to recover their power once they were outside, which meant they couldn't leap out of the tower lest they wanted to fall to their own deaths.
"Kill anything that moves. Don't go to the summit and protect the priestess," Rex instructed aloud.
His eyes were scanned above.
None of the Voidal Monsters died from Viora's blast, and now, they were already recovered—and were descending at them again. On cue, all of them went into their fighting stance—with Viora at the center, well-protected from all sides.
"Now!"
Almost instantly, Rex slashed a Voidal Monster and left the others to start his rampage.
He hacked each and every single Voidal Monster that came his way, deflecting their claws and slashing them across their vital points while pushing upward as high as he could. Some of them died with one slash from the Red Dawn of Kaiser, while some only got wounded.
But even then, the wounded Voidal Monsters would fall down and be finished by the others.
Following the Alpha, the five Voidal Knights also climbed the wall of coffins, grabbing and attacking any Voidal Monsters their hands could reach. Just like Rex instructed them—these Voidal Knights that were turned into Werewolves went wild.
It was pure brutality.
Each of them used every weapon in their arsenal—their massive claws, hands, legs, and even teeth, as they tore down the thousands of Voidal Monsters. A lot of the Voidal Monsters managed to land a good hit on them, but their wounds were healed almost instantly.
As Werewolves, their regeneration capability was enhanced.
Instead of wearing them down, the wounds only made them angrier and more berserk.
Unlike other Supernaturals, Werewolves thrived in a situation like this.
Bathing in blood and being wounded, that was the ideal place for a Werewolf to shine.
On the other side of the tower, making her way up—Crimoria pierced through like a blade.
Considering her strength, settling—at the Master Immortal Spirit rank, none of these Voidal Monsters were able to land their claws on her. Even when thirty of them attacked at the same time, the quickness of her blade was able to overpower all of them without even a sweat.
Down below, Linthia worked together with the heirs to protect Viora.
Most of the Voidal Monsters that got to them were wounded.
Rex and the others were that effective.
But even so, the numbers were overwhelming, thousands upon thousands fell like a swarm of ants, but they were able to defeat the Voidal Monsters adeptly. Under Linthia's leadership, along with their own training across the journey, they became compact and strong.
In addition, even if they suffered a deadly blow, Viora was there to heal them instantly.
"At this point, this would be over in a minute!" Taylan exclaimed confidently.
Hannah clicked her tongue, "Shut up! You are going to bring bad luck to us by saying that!"
For a moment there, debris, coffins, and energy danced within the tower.
It was a fierce battle, none of them could breathe even for a second as the Voidal Monsters kept coming.
Rex managed to reach the fifth floor of the upper floors—and used the golden halo as a foothold before glancing up, only to find there were still a lot more Voidal Monsters that he needed to kill. But he wasn't disheartened, in fact, he had nothing in his mind other than to kill right now.
Each of his attacks killed ten instantly, and the blood spurted from them was beautiful and tantalizing.
Unable to suppress his urge, he even bit some of them to savor the blood.
Despite still being in his Werewolf form, he was behaving like an animal.
Earlier, when he activated his new ability, Perfect Beast, he made sure not to activate its Neutralizer.
So the limitation took effect on him.
The Perfect Beast's limitation was that it reduced agility and doubled his tendency to become angry.
Attacking such a large scale of Voidal Monsters, there was no need for agility.
And the reason Rex did that was because the limitation could be exploited to harden his golden exoskeleton.
Now, not even Voidal Monsters at the Immortal Spirit rank could do anything against him.
But even so, the numbers were still going to be a problem.
Rex gritted his teeth and decided to take a lot of them out with one move.
"Spirit Genesis: Inevitable Death!"
Boom!
Splash!
Getting creative, Rex clapped his hands together and fired a fan-shaped, deadly soundwave.
All Voidal Monsters that got struck by it exploded.
But it was then, Rex's eyes bulged as he coughed a mouthful of blood.
Due to the boiling anger inside of him—which also clouded his mind, he forgot to absorb the blood of the Voidal Monsters he killed to activate the Neutralizer and avoid the limitation. He felt his body tearing apart from the inside as the phantom pain of the Voidal Monsters' deaths gripped him.
I can't look weak—I need to stand up!
Rex thought inside, feeling the connection with the new Silverstar Pack members disappearing.
He needed to stand up, but the Voidal Monsters were already swarming him like ants to a cube of sugar.
By the second, he felt the weight on him becoming heavier and heavier.
However, fortunately enough, the anger helped him overpower the phantom pain and his situation.
Roar!!
In a fit of rage, Rex roared and broke free.
He grabbed the nearest Voidal Monster's head and crushed it before swiping wildly at the others.
Regardless of their numbers, we should be able to wipe them out.
In the middle of the battle, Rex scanned the area and could tell that this swarm wouldn't be a problem.
It would only take time, but defeating them was entirely possible.
However, even as the numbers were getting thinner, there was still no sign of the main monster.
No sign of the Singing Lady.
Glancing upward, he could still hear the singing coming from the chamber at the very top, but with the Voidal Monsters here being massacred, she should be appearing and helping right now. Rex didn't know what the Singing Lady was waiting for.
Just then, however, a notification caused his eyes to widen.
<Casualties count: 211 / 1,000>
Rex's eyes widened—the casualties count for the chain sudden quest suddenly rose.
It didn't rise slightly either, it went straight to 211.
Snapping from his initial shock, Rex grabbed a Voidal Monster and used it like a weapon, swinging in a circular manner and knocking the Voidal Monsters around him away. Then, with the little time he had to breathe, he looked down at the bottom floor.
From the gaps of the Voidal Monsters and the others, he managed to see the barrier Viora created.
Beyond it, the soldiers that they were protecting had been reduced to a pile of corpses.
"Something killed them?!" Rex exclaimed in shock. "But I didn't sense anything!"
It was then, something struck him from behind.
Rex's eyes widened when his right arm was severed and he was pushed off the golden halo, falling back to the bottom floor where the others were. Following that, the Vodal Knights also fell, knocked off the walls.
Even Crimoria, as alert as she was right now, got knocked down by something swift.
So fast that she couldn't react in time.
As she caught herself and slid down through the coffin walls, she glanced upward in confusion.
She was confused as to what knocked her down.
All she could hear was a humming sound, and then, in the next second, she was knocked down.
Leaping off the wall, a dozen Voidal Monsters attacked her, but with her swift blade words, all of them got sliced into pieces before Crimoria finally regrouped with the others. She noticed Rex missing a limb and frowned, "What happened to you?!"
Rex looked up at her, but before he could answer, his eyes turned to look beyond her.
"That happened to me…" He whispered and pointed skyward.
