Chapter 800. Half Consent
The Incubus System Chapter 800. Half Consent
I opened my eyes to find Puriel gazed at me with curiosity. "I told you I did. She just needs some time to organize things," I said, shifting to sit up.
She settled beside me, her expression questioning. "How much longer?"
I shrugged.
She shot me a flat stare. "Why didn't you ask her sooner?" she complained.
I let out an exasperated sigh. "I've already asked, but you need to understand the complexity. You're inside a palace, in the heart of the capital. One wrong move could be catastrophic, costing many lives. If you were in a remote cave, I'd have whisked you away without hesitation," I explained.
"Tch!" she clicked her tongue in an annoyed tone, her brows furrowed in frustration.
I couldn't help but lean my face closer to hers. "Did something happen? Did they do something to you?" I asked. I'd known her for a while now, and it didn't take much to recognize when something was bothering her.
Her response came with a sigh, as if she couldn't be bothered with explaining. "No," she replied tersely, her lips forming a thin line.
"Then?" I asked, my brows furrowing with curiosity.
She pouted, her lips forming a little more frustration, and her index fingers bumped together repeatedly. "Uh... So, there's this soldier. You know, the usual soldier who used to take my angelic power," she began to explain, her words coming out in a rush.
I couldn't help but let out an internal sigh. 'Here we go again...' I thought, bracing myself for what sounded like it might be a lengthy tale. I had hoped for a straightforward answer, not an epic saga. "Can you just give me a simple explanation?" I interrupted her.
She shot me an exasperated look, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Just listen to me," she replied.
"Right," I muttered, realizing that getting her to provide a concise answer was probably a lost cause.
"So, this soldier has been doing this for more than two years," she repeated, her voice tinged with exasperation.
"Alright," I responded in a nonchalant tone. This was one of those moments when she needed to talk, and all I had to do was listen.
"This soldier, see, he had this habit. Every time he and his comrades were assigned to my room, he'd start talking about some new movie. But he didn't come last time."
I nodded, piecing together the puzzle she was laying out before me. "So, you're worried about him?" I asked, offering my own assumption.
She shot me a glance. "No, it's not that I'm worried about him," she retorted. "It's just that he left me hanging last time with a cliffhanger ending to a movie plot, and now I need to know how it ends!"
My jaw hit the floor, and I cringed so hard that I thought my face might permanently stay that way. 'When it comes to her, you should expect the unexpected, Ethan,' I silently reminded myself. This moment was just another reminder of why Lord Damon often looked down on her antics.
I couldn't help but shake my head in disbelief. "What kind of movie?" I finally decided to ask, bracing myself for her answer.
Her eyes lit up with excitement as she replied, "Game of Thorns."
A surprised grin tugged at my lips, and I couldn't help but chuckle. "No way! I've watched that too," I exclaimed, genuinely surprised.
Her eyes gleamed with excitement. "Do you know the ending?" she asked, her curiosity bubbling over like a shaken soda can.
I scratched the back of my head. "Well… I was just halfway through the last season," I admitted, my tone tinged with remorse. It wasn't the first time I had fallen behind on a popular TV series. Between my nightly demon-hunting escapades, my collage, and the occasional visit to the demon world, keeping up with the latest entertainment trends wasn't exactly high on my priority list.
Her excitement dimmed, like a candle suddenly snuffed out by a gust of wind. She clicked her tongue in disappointment. "Tch! Useless as always," she criticized me with a theatrical eye-roll.
I shook my head in mock exasperation, a small grin tugging at the corners of my lips. Dealing with Puriel, the angelic chatterbox as she often was, had its moments of frustration. She had this knack for launching into conversations that felt like threads in an endless spool of yarn.
"Rather than worrying about that, you should worry about your promise after I release you. That's more important. At least prepare yourself. I want to do it with your full consent," I said, my tone laced with a touch of a fake annoyance.
My words seemed to trigger a realization in her, and her sapphire eyes widened with curiosity. "Wait… Did you just do it with someone without her or his consent?" she asked, her voice tinged with genuine intrigue.
I sighed. This was a can of worms I wasn't sure I wanted to open, especially with an angel who had a tendency to dive headfirst into the rabbit hole of complex discussions. "Let's just say it was a matter of... half-consent," I admitted, my words laden with reluctant honesty.
