Chapter 123: Wedding surprise

"Are you ready for this?" Edward asked, standing next to me as I checked myself over in the large mirror in the dressing room of the chapel. Aligning my necktie, I looked at Edward in the mirror.

"Yeah… I'm ready," I said, swallowing the butterflies I could feel flying around my stomach.

"It's the day you've been waiting for, well… for as long as I've known you," Julius said, walking to my left side and handing me a flute of champagne. Taking the glass, I downed it in one swig.

"You know alcohol has no effect on me, right?" I asked, wiping my chin with the palm of my hand.

"Yeah, but you still looked like you could use a drink," Julius said with a chuckle, taking the glass from me.

We were all wearing the best tuxedos money could buy— all black with vests and white button-up shirts underneath. All of the attendees of the wedding had arrived two days ago: all of the Cullens, Julius, Jane, Rosalie's childhood human friend Vera, her husband Craig, and their young son, John. As well as the priest. Can't forget him. Other than that, the other pews were going to be empty, which was fine by us.

The wedding was being held in the picturesque white chapel countryside church. You know the one: all white with the small bell tower. Digging into the small pocket of his vest, Julius pulled out a fancy-looking gold pocket watch.

"We should probably head out there," he said, closing the watch and putting it back.

"Yeah," I said, letting out a lungful of air as I smoothed my jacket for the hundredth time today.

Nodding my head, we turned and left the dressing room. Walking into the main church area, I looked at all the faces that filled the room as I made my way up to the front. Standing to the left side of the altar were the bridesmaids, consisting of Rose's friend Vera, Jane, and Evelyn, all wearing matching colored dresses. Standing on the other side where I was going to stand was Emmett, who was watching me, Julius, and Edward approach.

When they had arrived the other day, Jane and I were happy to find out that Emmett and Evelyn were in a relationship together, so the tension that had once surrounded us was gone. Taking the few steps up to the altar, I gave Emmett a small smile as I turned to wait for Rosalie's entrance, Julius and Edward lining up behind me with Emmett as my best men. Looking over, I gave the bridesmaids a small smile and nod, clasping my hands in front of me.

It felt like an eternity as I waited, my heart pounding away in my chest as I shifted from foot to foot. But when the doors opened, my vision tunneled as my heart skipped a beat. She was absolutely stunning.

Rosalie stood there, framed by the open doors, the soft light from the setting sun outside casting a gentle glow around her from the stained glass windows that ran down both sides of the church. Her gown was a work of art, delicate lace flowing over an ivory silk lining, hugging her figure in all the right places before cascading down into a train that seemed to float behind her. Her blonde hair was elegantly styled, adorned with tiny white flowers that mirrored the ones in her bouquet. She looked like a vision from a dream, ethereal and breathtaking.

As she started her walk down the aisle, accompanied by the gentle classical wedding melody played on a grand piano, everyone in the room seemed to hold their breath. Each step she took was deliberate and graceful, her eyes fixed on me with an intensity that made the world around us fade into the background. Her expression was a mix of joy, serenity, and a hint of mischief—the Rosalie I had fallen in love with.

The moment stretched, each heartbeat echoing in my ears. The anticipation of this day had been building for what felt like forever, and now, seeing her walk toward me, everything else seemed to fall into place. I felt a warmth spreading through my chest, a profound sense of gratitude and love for the woman who was about to become my wife.

As she reached the altar, Carlisle gave her hand to me, his eyes filled with a quiet understanding and respect. I took her hand, feeling the coolness of her skin against mine, a sensation that always sent a thrill through me. Together, we turned to face the priest.

The ceremony began, the priest's voice a soothing backdrop to the flurry of emotions inside me. As we exchanged vows, each word felt like a promise etched into my soul. Rosalie's eyes never left mine, her gaze steady and unwavering, and I knew, without a doubt, that we were meant to be together.

When it came time to exchange rings, my hand shook slightly with the weight of the moment. Sliding the ring onto Rosalie's finger felt like the most natural thing in the world—a circle of eternity symbolizing our unending love.

"You may kiss the bride," the priest announced, and with that, I pulled Rosalie gently toward me. Our lips met, soft and lingering, sealing our vows with a kiss that was both tender and passionate. Cheers erupted around us, but all I could hear was the sound of my heart beating in my chest.

Slowly backing away from Rosalie, I gave her a small smile, but as I was looking deep into her light yellow eyes, something that had only happened once before in my life happened again.

The room went dead silent, frozen in time, as a small blue screen appeared in front of me.

"Dear Mr. Adam,

Congratulations on the marriage! I had been worried about you, wondering if you were planning to be alone for the rest of eternity. But look at you now, finally tying the knot. Quite the achievement for a monkey, if I do say so myself.

Now, I won't take up too much of your time on such an important day. My presence here is sanctioned by my higher-ups, who have decided to bestow a rather unique gift upon you and your lovely bride. It's nothing too extravagant, just a little something that might greatly benefit you and the missus.

This gift is a one-time use ability that allows Rosalie the chance to experience the miracle of motherhood. It will temporarily alter her physiology to permit the conception and nurturing of a child, turning her partially back into a human for the necessary period of time. Quite the boon for a couple like yourselves, wouldn't you agree?

Consider this a token of appreciation from those of us who have been watching your progress. Use it wisely.

Gib."

The screen flickered out of existence as suddenly as it had appeared, leaving me standing there with Rosalie's frozen hand still in mine. A mix of disbelief and wonder coursed through me. The idea of having a child with Rosalie was something I had never dared to dream of, given the limitations of her kind. Yet, here was an opportunity, presented like a miracle on our wedding day.

I couldn't stop the loud laugh that escaped my lips as I kissed Rosalie again, my nervousness forgotten as I picked her up and spun her around.
