The Hikigaya Couple’s Youth Romantic Comedy Is Just as Expected

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Arrival

"Onii-chan, wake up! We need to head out!"

Komachi flung open Hachiman's bedroom door and dove onto the bed without hesitation.

"What the hell?" Hachiman groaned, irritated at being woken up two days in a row.

"It's almost time to leave. Yukino-nee is downstairs making breakfast. We'll eat and head out after."

Komachi clung to him like a koala, refusing to budge.

"Yeah, yeah. But could you get off first? Kinda hard to get dressed like this."

Hachiman pushed her off and sat up.

"So? How was your night? You and Yukino sharing a room didn't feel weird or anything?" he asked casually.

"It was fine, just that Yukino-nee's body is super cool. I had to turn the A/C up a bit."

Komachi squinted, as if recalling the refreshing chill from last night.

"I see," Hachiman muttered with a shrug. "Pass me a pair of pants, will you?"

He took the pants Komachi handed over and slipped them on before heading out of his room.

In the kitchen, Yukino stood at the stove in shorts and a sleeveless top, an apron tied neatly around her waist. The morning light framed her in a gentle glow, and Hachiman was struck by the simple domestic beauty of the moment.

He stepped forward and gently wrapped his arms around her from behind. The warmth and subtle fragrance of her body filled his senses, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still.

Yukino didn't speak. She simply continued cooking, allowing Hachiman to rest against her, his breath brushing lightly against the back of her neck.

The quiet peace was broken by Komachi's voice.

"Aww, you two are so lovey-dovey this morning."

Yukino said nothing. She simply nudged Hachiman away with her hip. Only after he let go did she speak.

"Go wash your hands. It's almost ready."

"Yes ma'am," Hachiman replied with a grin.

Once the three of them were seated, Yukino brought over two plates, placing one in front of Komachi and keeping the other for herself.

Hachiman looked at her expectantly.

Yukino gave him a teasing smile. "What, expecting me to serve you too? Get it yourself."

With a sigh, Hachiman stood up and went to retrieve his breakfast from the kitchen counter.

After they finished eating, Hachiman sprawled out on the sofa, scrolling lazily through his phone while Yukino collected the dishes and started washing them.

Before long, his phone rang. It was Miss Hiratsuka.

"Hello?"

"Hikigaya. You can bring Komachi along now."

"Got it. We'll head out once Yukino finishes the dishes."

There was a pause on the other end before the call abruptly ended.

Hachiman stared at his phone, imagining the expression on Hiratsuka-sensei's face. He couldn't help but grin.

"Yukino, better get dressed. That was Sensei."

"Alright. Just give me a minute to change," Yukino replied, drying her hands.

"Komachi, double-check if we missed anything."

"I already packed last night, including your stuff, Onii-chan," Komachi said, lazily swinging her pale legs over the edge of the couch as she flipped through a fashion magazine.

"Nice. We'll head out once Yukino's ready," Hachiman said, stretching.

Soon Yukino emerged from the bedroom.

"Sorry to keep you waiting," she said, slightly out of breath.

"No rush. We've still got time."

Hachiman stood at the entryway, bag in hand, waiting.

Yukino slipped on her sandals and walked over. Naturally, she took Hachiman's arm, pulled out a pair of sunglasses from her bag, and placed them on his face. Then she put on a matching pair, slightly smaller.

Komachi, watching from the side, pursed her lips. The public display of affection was a bit too much for her this early in the day.

The three of them strolled leisurely to the front gate of Soubu High, where Hiratsuka-sensei was already waiting beside a pickup truck.

When she saw the couple walking arm-in-arm, her mood visibly soured. Her expression darkened as she stepped forward.

"You're here. Wait a bit. A few more people still haven't arrived."

From her tone, it was clear she wasn't pleased. Hachiman nodded obediently and stood off to the side with Yukino.

A few minutes later, Yui came running up, slightly breathless. She slowed down when she saw Yukino holding onto Hachiman's arm but quickly regained her composure and greeted them.

"Yahallo! You two got here early, huh?"

Yui's voice carried its usual cheer, though her eyes flickered with unease.

"Yeah," Yukino replied with a small nod, her icy demeanor fully back in place.

Then Saika arrived, jogging up behind them. The moment she saw Yukino and Hachiman together, her face stiffened and her expression grew clouded.

"Um... Yukinoshita and Hachiman seem... really close," she said, looking away.

"You didn't know yet? They're totally a thing now!" Yui announced brightly.

"I... I see."

Saika's voice dropped, her mood dimming noticeably.

"Right? I still can't figure out how these two got together in the first place."

Yui kept chatting, oblivious to Saika's expression.

"Alright, that's enough. Everyone get in the truck," Hiratsuka-sensei snapped, clearly fed up with the chatter.

Yui flinched, shrinking back with a guilty look.

The five of them piled into the truck as ordered.

During the ride, Yui leaned forward, curiosity getting the better of her.

"Sensei, where exactly are we going?"

Hiratsuka exhaled a puff of smoke, visibly annoyed.

"I told you yesterday, didn't I? We're headed out to the countryside in Chiba to volunteer. A group of elementary school kids is having a summer camp. We're going to help out."

"Elementary school kids?" Yui blinked.

"Why do you look so shocked?"

"It's nothing. I just... never got to go to summer camp when I was little."

Yui sighed wistfully, bemoaning her childhood misfortunes.

"Hmph."

Hiratsuka let out a short, uninterpretable grunt.

After that, silence fell over the truck.

Saika sat beside Hachiman and Yukino, listening to their quiet murmuring and laughter. She tried a few times to speak to Hachiman but always stopped halfway.

And so, the journey continued with only the occasional soft chuckle from Hachiman and Yukino breaking the stillness.

Eventually, they arrived at their destination.

Hachiman reached forward and gently shook Yui awake. She groggily opened her eyes, blinking at him.

"Huh? We're here already?"

Hachiman nodded.

"Sorry. I stayed up late last night chatting with a friend. Didn't get much sleep."

"Nothing to apologize for," Hachiman replied, genuinely puzzled.

"Hehe, yeah. Guess I'm still half-asleep," Yui giggled, sticking out her tongue playfully.

"Well, well, Hikigaya-kun. You're here too?"

Hachiman turned around at the familiar voice.

It was Hayama and the others.
