Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Snowfall and Surprise
"Aah-" Yukino let out a breathy gasp, her voice soft and trembling.
It mingled with the sound of skin slapping against skin, echoing faintly in the quiet room. The tension was broken only by Hachiman's voice.
"You think it's funny to mess with me?"
Smack.
"Aah... n-no, it's not funny. I was wrong, I swear..." Yukino's voice wavered, caught between laughter and embarrassment.
"You going to do it again?"
Smack.
"N-no... I won't, I promise. I was wrong. I'm sorry, darling..."
Hachiman didn't reply. He only gave her a gentler tap, then ran his fingers softly over the spot, now marked by a red handprint.
"Does it hurt?" he asked quietly.
Yukino didn't answer with words. Instead, she suddenly bit down on Hachiman's thigh in protest.
"Ow-okay, okay! I get it! I'm sorry, Your Majesty, please let go!"
Yukino sat up, spat twice in disgust, and wiped her lips with a grimace.
"Didn't you say you were a cat? Why do you bite like a dog?" Hachiman muttered.
"Cats bite too, you know," Yukino said with a playful wink, completely unapologetic.
Hachiman stared at her and gave an exaggerated sigh. "Alright, alright. Let's sleep."
With that, he shed his towel and slipped into bed.
"You're not planning to sleep like that, are you?" Yukino asked, still standing stiffly at the edge.
But Hachiman reached out and flipped off the light.
Left with no excuse, Yukino slowly climbed into bed. Just as she pulled the blanket over herself, she felt Hachiman tug her gently closer.
"What are you doing?"
"Nothing. Sleeping," Hachiman replied as he pulled her into his arms and adjusted her to rest her head on his shoulder.
They lay that way, pressed close together. Their body heat melted into each other's skin. Hachiman brushed his fingers along her cheek.
"Sleep. We've still got one more day."
Yukino nodded, closing her eyes. But as she drifted toward sleep, she couldn't ignore the fact that something warm and firm was pressing lightly against her stomach.
Her face turned crimson, but she kept her eyes shut and pretended not to notice.
Late that night, in a half-dreaming state, Hachiman felt a strange warmth and stickiness surrounding his lower body.
Too tired to react, he sank back into unconsciousness.
When he finally woke again, morning had arrived and something felt very wrong.
There was a cold, sticky dampness in a very private place.
No way...
Panicking, he reached down to check. What he touched wasn't what he expected. There was no evidence of that, but there was something else. Something cold and... wet.
He sat up, confused and alarmed. With trembling fingers, he lifted the blanket.
There were bloodstains. Spreading from where Yukino had been sleeping. The sheets, their clothes everything.
"Wait, what-? Are you kidding me?" Hachiman's mind went blank.
With his clean left hand, he gently patted Yukino's cheek.
"Mmh... good morning, Hachiman."
She smiled sleepily, then paused eyes dropping downwards.
A long silence.
Yukino covered her face with both hands.
Seeing her clearly overwhelmed, Hachiman didn't say anything more. Instead, he carefully picked her up, ignoring the droplets that trailed onto the carpet.
He grabbed a dry hotel towel, sat her on the edge of the tub, and began gently wiping her down after dampening the towel with warm water.
As the cloth swept over her legs, the crimson streaks vanished, revealing smooth, pale skin beneath. But it only took a few swipes before the towel was soaked through.
Hachiman wrung it out, rinsed it again, and continued until he had cleaned everything he could except for the source.
"Can you handle the rest yourself?" he asked softly.
Yukino bit her lip and gave a tiny nod.
After washing his hands, Hachiman passed her a fresh towel and stepped out of the bathroom with another for himself.
He stripped off his stained underwear, cleaned his legs, and got dressed. Then he turned his attention to the mess on the bed.
The large bloodstain on the sheet gave him a headache. He gave up trying to clean it and instead folded it up and tucked it into Yukino's bag.
Eventually, Yukino came out of the bathroom.
Hachiman turned, only to freeze when he saw her.
She wore only a bra. The rest of her... confirmed a suspicion he'd had the first time he visited her house.
She seemed dazed, almost in shock.
Without a word, he handed her fresh underwear and yesterday's clothes. Yukino didn't flinch or turn away just dressed quietly, piece by piece.
As she finished, Hachiman turned to finish cleaning, folding the stained sheet tightly and double-checking for anything they might've missed.
When all was packed, he took Yukino's hand, and they stepped out of the room.
In the elevator lobby, they ran into Komachi and Yui, just waking up as well.
Seeing the two holding hands, Komachi grinned mischievously.
"Onii-chan, feeling extra great this morning, huh?"
Yui joined in, waving at them. "Morning! How was your night?"
"It was... fine," Hachiman mumbled.
At the front desk, Yukino stiffly handled the checkout.
Meanwhile, Yui leaned in and whispered, "Hey... did you do something to Yukino? She seems kinda... off."
"No, she just... well, you know her condition. She's anemic and-" Hachiman paused, awkward. "She got her period this morning. It hit her pretty hard."
Yui's eyes widened in realization, and she gave a sympathetic nod. "Oof. That sucks. And right during a beach trip too... what a waste."
Hachiman shrugged helplessly.
Back in their room, a hotel cleaner stared at the bloodstains on the carpet and the discarded men's underwear in the trash with a baffled look.
Then they found the red-soaked towels in the bathroom and the missing bedsheet.
Shaking their head in disbelief, the cleaner pulled out their phone and posted a short story on social media:
"A guy might have castrated himself in one of our rooms last night."
The post went viral across Chiba by sundown.
Later that evening, after a quiet return from the beach, Yukino finally regained some composure. She gave Hachiman's hand a light squeeze, signaling for him to lean in.
As he lowered his head, she whispered near his ear.
"Don't tell anyone what happened today. Or I'll kill you."
He chuckled softly and patted his chest. "Scout's honor."
At the car, Hachiman tapped on the window. Yukino looked at him questioningly.
"Everything's handled. It's all in your bag, wrapped in the sheet. No one will find out."
Yukino lowered her gaze, mumbled a quiet "Thank you," and quickly shut the window, asking the driver to go.
Hachiman watched her car disappear down the street.
Then he turned to Komachi and said, "Let's head home."
