The Hero’s Brother Is Bound To Be Depressed

chapter 24

24 – Lakar

The next day.

We arrived at the restaurant for breakfast. The restaurant, which had been half destroyed by the last tattered chimera’s attack, had become even more attractive than before.

Maybe it’s to keep people from recalling the unpleasant incident that happened at the restaurant. The pink sky was floating on the ceiling, and the magical star candy was caught when I raised my hand.

I thought that if Ilia hadn’t been there during the Chimera’s attack, there would have been a lot of damage. If I had been alone, I would not have thought of fighting the Chimera.

Looking around, I wonder if there were many people who regretted not having weapons at the time. Even though it was a restaurant, some of them had weapons for self-defense.

Let’s grab a plate of bread, jam, and soup and sit at a table in the corner of the restaurant as usual. The gazes around me were not good.

When I went back to the dormitory last night, I even wentssips and gossips to my ears. Perhaps because the nervous breakdown had disappeared, I was able to naturally flow through one ear.

Still, it’s hard to ignore the gaze that blatantly glares at the party to the rumor. When I picked up the bread with a sigh. Someone sat in an empty seat opposite me where no one had ever sat.

There are obviously a lot of empty seats around, but the person sitting in front of me at the empty table looked up for someone.

It was Lakar with blood-red hair who stunned me in the first fight and fueled the negative rumors about my special admission.

It’s not an easily forgotten memory of a bad first meeting with your hair color. We didn’t talk once, but I even remembered his name.

“Can I sit down?”

I didn’t have the heart to kick out those who had already sat down, and I wasn’t the owner of this wide table, so I nodded and answered.

“Yeah, there’s no one to sit down anyway.”

While saying that, while I was tearing up warm bread with my hands and eating it with jam. I asked, forcing myself to swallow what was in my mouth at Lakar’s burdensome gaze staring at me.

“Do you have anything to say?”

Is the rumor going around the academy true? Did he come to me on behalf of the curious students? Thinking of such negative thoughts, let’s put on a slightly wary expression.

Suddenly, Lakar lowered his head as if to slam his face into his plate.

“I just wanted to say thank you.”

“Uh… ?”

Because it was completely unexpected, I almost missed the bread I was holding.

“I was also here when the monsters attacked this place. I was hiding in that corner with the other kids.”

Rakar raised his head and turned his head to the corner of the restaurant.

“I couldn’t do anything, I was scared and hid with the other kids.”

Since the situation was so urgent at the time, I couldn’t even remember who was in the restaurant.

“I heard rumors that you colluded with the warlock. But I decided to believe what I saw with my own eyes, not rumors. That you were out to save us. It is an unchanging truth that only you and Ilia-senpai gathered courage when everyone else was terrified.”

A little taken aback by Lacar’s serious voice, let’s stroke his chin without speaking. La Carre bowed his head once again in gratitude.

“It’s late, but I wanted to say thank you. And… Excuse me, I had no weapons to help.”

Seeing Lakar scratching the back of his head with a face mixed with gratitude and regret, I felt a sense of shame and answered bluntly without realizing it.

“It’s okay not to make excuses.”

I immediately regretted the outburst of words. I’ll answer a little softer.

Without further conversation in an awkward atmosphere, we finished our meal in silence until the end.

After stopping by the dormitory to take a short break, I headed to the classroom to take a class. When I opened the classroom door, when I headed to the most corner seat, sighing at the unpleasant eyes looking at me.

For some reason, Lacard, who arrived at the classroom first and sat down, quietly got up from his seat. He sat down next to me in an empty seat that had never been filled.

I never thought it would bother me so much that someone was sitting next to me. Apparently the nervous breakdown is gone…. I was very concerned about Lakar.

As Professor Xavier of today’s first lesson, [Basic Interpretation of Runes], Entered the classroom with a greeting, the interpretation of Lacard’s incomprehensible behavior was postponed until later.

*

I moved to the training ground for the last class of the morning, the Lycan class. After a brief physical training, Lycan gave free training time.

I didn’t have anyone to fight because I lacked my skills, so I got up from my seat with a training spear to do basic training alone in a corner as usual.

“Is there anyone I can sparr with?”

“I… ?”

I was quite embarrassed by Lakar’s question that suddenly approached me.

“I was wondering if I wanted to get my revenge last time.”

It was not a sarcastic question, it seemed like a question with pure intentions. Contrary to his large presence and reliable appearance that looked like a knight at first glance, his fidgeting with his large hands made it seem like he wanted to fight with me.

“Well, yes. Let’s do it.”

Aside from magic, I decided to fight Lakar with only the basic spearmanship I had trained so far. Unlike the time when I fainted from a single blow, I also worked hard.

We spread the distance, settled down, and started sparring by nodding each other’s heads. In order to take advantage of the spear, he kept his distance and fired a series attack, but Lakar skillfully blocked the series attack with his sword.

After narrowing the distance using a strange technique that seemed to draw the spearhead towards himself, he brought the sword to my neck.

Let the sparring end in an instant. Just in case, the gaze that had been focused on me immediately turned into a look of ridicule and contempt.

Just like that time, when I was sighing at the fact that I had been hit by a single blow. Lakar said in a serious voice.

“In this situation, you have to put your weight on the back leg.”

He doesn’t seem to care about the eyes of the people around him. I regained my concentration when I saw Lacar talking about the couplets that had just taken place and giving him advice.

“When holding out a spear, it is better to think that the left hand is supporting the spear.”

“When the tip of the spear reaches the opponent, you can make it difficult for the opponent to defend by twisting the spear with your left hand.”

“Okay, I guess it was better to swing for distance than to push away in the current situation.”

Lakar continued to fight with me, carefully giving advice so as not to offend me. Let’s definitely follow Lacar’s advice.

I was only doing basic training alone, but I tried sparring directly with someone. The problem of coping according to the situation was revealed due to my lack and inexperience.

Continued to correct the problem to some extent through sparring, and a satisfactory result was obtained.

“Thanks Lakar. It really helped me a lot.”

At that, La Carre nodded with a light smile.

“I’m better than before, but I think I still lack a lot of stamina.”

Lakar’s point was true. Ross’ base stats are not even up to his academy average. He’s still far from average, even if he trains after dinner every day.

“If you have nothing else to do, how about exercising together after dinner?”

Scratching the back of his head in embarrassment at Lakar’s sudden suggestion. Why the hell are you doing this to me? Does he want to thank you for rescuing him from the diner?

Working his brain to interpret the meaning of La Carr’s actions, the principal’s words came to mind last night.

“Make friends. At first, it will be awkward to approach first, and it will be hard to refuse, but somewhere there might be someone who will be your lifelong friend waiting for you to approach.”

I wonder if Lacar approached me first because he wanted to be friends with me? But now I was an inferior student with bad rumors and not even reaching the average.

Does Lacar, who has the potential to become the head of the Combat Division, want to be friends with an inferior student like me?

Looking at me worried, Lakar opened his mouth.

“It’s okay to refuse if it’s burdensome. I just said it with the intention of exercising with you….”

Yes, even if you are rejected, just like the principal said, let’s approach first.

“Lacar, would you like to be friends… ?”

Lakar, who had been saying something to me, stopped talking and looked at me with a puzzled expression. The thought of wanting to get out of this place at once seemed like a chimney because of the shame and awkwardness that filled up in my heart at that sight.

When you lower your eyes in shame, bite your lip, and feel your toes shrinking in your shoes. Suddenly, a large hand appeared in front of me.

When I raised my gaze to look at LaCarr, he seemed to feel the same embarrassment as I did.

I realized from Lakar’s behavior that he really wanted to be friends with me, so I immediately grabbed his outstretched hand.

After a brief handshake, I coughed for no reason at the awkward atmosphere that had subsided heavily.

“Then let’s exercise together in the evening.”

With that said, Lakar went off to fight with someone else to escape the awkwardness.

I almost choked at the awkwardness and embarrassment, and then I sighed and sat down on a nearby bench.

For the first time, I made friends at the academy. Lacard, it was an extra that did not appear in the novel I wrote. I heard that there is an older sister who is the head of the combat department in the third year. That older sister was also an extra who did not appear in the novel.

I felt strange. It gave me a strange feeling to be able to become friends with complete strangers in my novel.

After taking a break, let’s do some basic training. Morning class is over. After sweating and taking a quick shower, let’s head to the restaurant. I could instinctively feel that the gaze on me had changed.

Feeling burdened by the buzz that has grown louder than in the morning and the stares flying into my face, let’s head to a seat in the corner with a tray. Unknown students approached.

“Hello? I heard you. You said it was all a misunderstanding? I heard you went to see the imperial family, how was it?”

“Notarization of the principal is amazing!”

“I heard the imperial family officially apologized? He said he’ll give you a reward too. Wow, envy How much would you like to pay?”

I could tell from the chatter of the students in front of me that Bella kept her deal.

It was almost impossible to get rid of the rumors that had spread around the academy. However, adding rumor upon rumor was easier than dipping bread into jam.

As if the students who used to look at me with contempt never did that. Pretending to be friendly and sending envious glances is not at all burdensome. I felt like I was going to suffocate.

Lakar, who was approaching to sit next to me with a tray, checked the students around me, quickly passed me by without a word, and went to another table.

Leaving a friend here… ! Quick-witted guy….

With or without me, I saw the students having a pleasant conversation with each other.

For some reason, I felt uncomfortable when people who used to gossip and criticize so much were being friendly like they never did.

Come to think of it, Lakar was friends with me even after hearing the rumors that I colluded with the warlock. If the rumors had spread and Lakar had acted like that, wouldn’t I have doubted his true intentions?

Heaving a sigh, I headed to my classroom for the afternoon class when I turned to the sound of my name being called.

“Ross! You said you had a good time at the imperial family? It’s fortunate that the misunderstanding was resolved before going to the interrogation room…. I was just stupidly worried!”

Seeing Ellie smiling brightly, I remembered the petition she wrote for me. The heartfelt petition in which I wrote that I was not that kind of person made me feel Ellie’s trust in me.

An arc line was drawn on the corner of his mouth naturally in the gratitude rising up in his heart.

“Thank you for your concern, Ellie. Fortunately, the misunderstanding was resolved and I got a good rest.”

“Whew, that’s good. After all, there’s no way a nice guy like Ross would do something like that!”

Ellie let out a sigh of relief and her face looked tired from not getting enough sleep. I guess I didn’t get much sleep because I was really worried about me.

Ellie shook her hand when she felt sorry for worrying her and feeling the joy in Ellie’s heart towards me.

“Then I’ll go eat! When Roel oppa gets discharged, let’s go eat something delicious together!”

I let out a deep sigh as I watched Ellie, her worries disappear and head toward her restaurant with her comfortable steps.

Can I let go of my feelings for Ellie? Before meeting Ellie, I thought I could. However, the feelings stagnant in his heart were quite deep.

When I arrived at the classroom with a complicated mind, I realized that I had forgotten one thing.

Shouldn’t I visit Roel’s hospital visit at least once… ? I focused on the afternoon class, thinking that I should stop by later when I had time.

*

Isn’t contemplation the result of gathering big data of people? At first glance, the contemplative Lakar was a monster crazy about physical training.

“Just one more!”

“Quaaagh!”

I pulled up the remaining strength in the muscles of my body and lifted the bar.

“I can do it one more time! Last!!!”

“Why is the last number 3!!!”

To my irritated cry, Lakar replied with a smile as if he was rather happy.

“This is really the last time! One more time!!!”

“Quaaa!!!”

Let’s use the last bit of strength to lift the bar. Lakar said with a satisfied smile.

“Look, there is still strength left. If you act hard, you won’t be able to train!”

“I was on the verge of passing out….”

I put on a pole and stood up, feeling exhilarating muscle pain all over my body. Let’s look forward to seeing how hard La Carre, who hasn’t worked out because he’s watching my workouts, will work out. He didn’t know why, but he was preparing to go out with his things packed.

“You… Aren’t you exercising?”

When I asked, feeling betrayed, Lakar smiled shyly.

“Come to think of it, I made a prior arrangement with her girlfriend. I’ll come back later and exercise before bed.”

“Wait, girlfriend?”

With a greater sense of betrayal, let’s aim at Lakar. She waved her hand as if making an excuse.

“It’s the fiancé that her grandfather arranged! I’m a freshman in the Faculty of Magic, so I see him occasionally.”

Around the time you feel envious. It dawned on me that if you include Lakar’s girlfriend, she meets the club’s need of three.

“Have you and your girlfriend heard of the club?”

“You must have heard of two Elenas. I don’t go to clubs because exercise is a waste of time.”

It’s a waste. But I was glad that Lakar didn’t join the club. If that’s the case, it’s like saving one person.

“Then maybe you can put your name on the club-“

“It’s better not to trade with friends.”

I was taken aback by Lakar’s resolute words that cut me off. No, if someone sees it, they’ll know that I asked for a guarantee….

“I’m not asking you to lend me money….”

“Do you have breakfast at that time every day?”

Pretending not to hear what I was saying, I sighed at Lakar asking the question and replied yes.

“Then see you tomorrow morning.”

With that said, Lacard left her gym without looking back.

I had to create a club somehow, so I decided not to give up and put Lakar’s name on the club.

“Where else can I find one….”

With a sigh, I went to visit Roel. I forced myself to stand up, screaming in muscle pain.
