Chapter 139: The mana signature
"Hmm. I don't know if I wanna go down there." Kai said as he looked at a massive hole in the ground. The immense mana signature was coming from below and felt stronger the more Kai sensed it.
If the mana was visible, it would have been like a massive wave of water that flooded the land like a tsunami. Alas, the mana was invisible and wasn't drowning anyone...yet.
"Pussy."
"Says the cat."
"I didn't think you would be scared of anything, Kai. Don't tell me you're chickening out right now." Sasha teased.
"Did you not see how I reacted to that spider? Besides, I'm getting bad vibes from this shit. I'd like to keep my sanity, thank you very much."
"I-I agree with Kai." Nadya inched away from the large hole, not wanting to learn about whatever was down there.
"How about we vote?" Kyana suggested.
"How about no," Kai responded.
"Yeah, let's vote! I wanna go down there!" Amaya raised her hand with an excited expression.
"Sorry, babe, but I want to know what's down there as well." Gwen smiled apologetically as she raised her hand.
"There might be treasures down there, so I'm in." Sasha raised her hand.
Kyana looked at both sides. If she chose to side with Kai, then it would be an even split, but if she decided to side with Gwen, then the majority rules. She thought about her answer for a bit, truly considering what she wanted to do. Then she decided.
"I wanna go." She said.
"Yes!" Kai shouted with relief. "Kyana, I'll give you all my love tonight! You too, Nadya! Haha! Fuck you, Gwen!"
Kyana smiled, slightly embarrassed that Kai misunderstood what she said. "No, I mean I wanna go down the hole."
He paused, looked toward the elf, and the only thing he could see was betrayal. Granted, she never betrayed him, but that wasn't how Kai felt.
"Tsk, whatever." He placed his arm around Nadya, putting some distance between them and the others. "We didn't like you all anyway. Isn't that right?"
"Yeah." Nadya agreed.
"First one down gets the best treasure!" Amaya jumped in.
"Not on my watch!" Gwen went after her.
"As long as there are a lot og shiy things, I'm okay with whatever you take." Sasha hopped in.
"Sorry." Kyana went as well.
"Bastards, I tell you. All of them." He cursed.
"Stabbed in the back by your very own," Nadya muttered.
"Don't worry, babe, we'll be together." He kissed her on the lips, then scooped her up. "Now, let's explore our deaths, my princess."
Kai jumped in.
---
The sinkhole was massive. How massive? They didn't know. All they knew was that it had been more than ten minutes, and they were still falling. Not even Kai could sense the bottom unless he used his full power, which he didn't care to do at the moment.
As they continued to fall, the rough, jagged, dirt and rock walls shifted into an elegant, well-kept, smooth stone. It was clear that someone had built this wall, and the group was starting to get closer to the bottom.
After another five minutes of falling, Kai finally sensed the bottom. Using his telekinesis, he made everyone float in the air and descend gracefully until their feet touched the floor.
He didn't need to do this since all of his girls at this point could fly already, but it was a habit, and they didn't mind Kai doing that for them.
"Whoa! It's amazing!" They all looked around at the beautiful temple-like structure they were standing in.
The walls were gray, lined with golden designs, magical runes, and portraits of a beautiful woman. Mana was flowing through the walls, shifting tiles, stairways, and rooms. It was as if the entire place were a maze.
Kai looked forward and saw that the main path wasn't affected by the shifting walls or stairs, so he started walking forward, and everyone followed behind.
"Is this place a tomb?" Gwen wondered.
"Could be. But it looks like a temple. Maybe not for worship, but for common interests." Kyana said as she looked around the place.
"Or maybe it's just one giant trap and it was waiting for idiots like us to come and steal our souls!" Kai said as a joke. But then, he got slightly paranoid. So, he purchased an ability that would prevent his soul from being stolen, then used his crest to give the ability to his girls as well.
"Don't scare me like that!" Amaya ran to Kai's arm and gripped it tightly. Her ears flattened, and her tail wrapped around his waist.
"You were the one who wanted to come down here." He said while scratching her head.
"B-But having our souls stolen is scary."
"Yeah, that's pretty fucked up, Kai. Scaring the cat like that." Gwen just used that as an excuse to cling to Kai's other arm because she then said..."That scared me, too. Now protect me!"
After walking down the corridor, they were met by a large door with intricate runes and magic circles. Around them were clues on how to deactivate the runes and magic circles, but if their knowledge wasn't up to par, then they wouldn't be able to open the door.
"That's what this message says," Kyana said to everyone.
"Damn, so now we have to solve a puzzle? Lame." Sasha sat down and waited for the others to figure it out.
The other girls looked around the walls, trying their best to decode the seal on the door. The looks on their faces really impressed Kai. However, he wasn't going to wait around for some puzzle to be solved when he could brute force his way through.
"Sometimes, you gotta think smarter, not harder." Winding back his arm, he punched the door with all his might.
The door shattered on impact, debris flying into the room as a gust of wind blew the girls to the side.
"What an easy puzzle." He smiled, walking inside the room.
"Gorilla," Kyana muttered.
The others agreed.
