Chapter 428: Jiang Nanshu is His World
He always instilled one idea into Jiang Nanshu's mind.
That was, no matter what, Lu Qingyan would never leave Jiang Nanshu.
Jiang Nanshu was his world.
If the world collapsed, he couldn't survive either.
So he needed his world to function well, supporting the world's happiness, anger, sorrow, and joy.
His embrace was warm as he whispered in Jiang Nanshu's ear, "I have to be very good to you, so you won't look at others, no one can do better than me, you can only lose your temper at me, others can't bear it, only I can, I'm your only one."
He rambled on, telling Jiang Nanshu a lot.
Jiang Nanshu listened until she felt drowsy, stretching a hand to cover his mouth, "I know, talk less."
When he wasn't around, Jiang Nanshu missed him, but now that he was in front of her, she found him too clingy.
Jiang Nanshu scorned herself internally, she really was troublesome.
Now that Lu Qingyan was back, Jiang Nanshu no longer needed to stay at the Jiang family's home.
Mr. Jiang had the family's nannies bring her many nutritious foods for pregnant women, and Jiang Nanshu accepted them all.
The relationship between Lu Qingyan and Jiang's family had also eased compared to the beginning.
Because in this world, these relatives were all that Jiang Nanshu had.
If they were gone, Jiang Nanshu would have less love, even if the timing of that love made people feel sickened, but Lu Qingyan still hoped, aside from him, the whole world would love his Nannan.
She was a very good girl.
At least in his life.
Jiang Nanshu's existence was inexplicable.
They returned to Half Mountain Villa.
Jiang Nanshu didn't ask Lu Qingyan how he got out.
The matter with Chu Muxi turned a page, and not long after, it was heard that Chu Xin committed suicide by jumping off a building.
Holding a blood-stained suicide note in her hand.
The note accused her husband of infidelity, bringing his mistress into their home, and also causing the death of their only daughter.
Only then did Lu Qingyan say that the driver who hit and killed Chu Muxi was bribed, and the police followed the clues and tracked down Chu Muxi's biological father.
With Chu Xin's death, the Chu family collapsed dramatically.
Their large company was divided up by the parasitic members of the family.
And Chu Muxi's father went to prison, was sentenced, and his mistress took his money and ran off with their child.
So, that was why Lu Qingyan was released.
Because Chu Muxi's mother didn't want the police to investigate further.
This involved Old Sir Lu's influence, although it was unclear what he said to Chu Xin that made her shift the blame toward Chu Muxi's father.
Jiang Nanshu pondered, this was the third death since her return.
Since Xu Xingwan's death, someone had died every so often.
But Lu Qingyan told her that it was all fate, one must believe in fate.
Half a month passed, and time entered June.
Jiang Nanshu was three months pregnant.
She had always been in good shape, and at three months, she looked no different than if she weren't pregnant.
Thanks to Lu Qingyan's culinary skills, the frequency of her morning sickness lessened.
Every time she suffered from pregnancy sickness, Lu Qingyan would follow behind grumbling, saying that once the child was born, he would punish them first.
Jiang Nanshu couldn't help but laugh and cry, "So little, could you bring yourself to do it?"
Lu Qingyan was at a loss for words, frowning, "Forget it... I can't bear it, it's a treasure you gave birth to, sigh."
Jiang Nanshu and Lu Qingyan moved to a new house.
Being next door neighbors with Mrs. Ji,
Jiang Nanshu could drop by anytime she wanted.
Mrs. Ji worried her daughter wouldn't eat well during her pregnancy, so whenever she cooked something, she'd bring it over, even though her daughter said that Lu Qingyan was cooking for her. Mrs. Ji still wasn't reassured.
Occasionally, she would run into Ji Ze coming home for the holidays.
He deeply admired Lu Qingyan and would follow him around, eager to learn some of the more complex knowledge whenever he could.
Conveniently, Lu Qingyan knew it all, and the two would end up in the study for at least an hour each time.
Ji Ze would leave each time, reluctantly expressing his wish to return again.
Lu Qingyan, however, was a bit troubled, and he complained to Jiang Nanshu with dissatisfaction, "Doesn't your brother have his own teachers? Why does he keep coming to me with questions?"
Jiang Nanshu, munching on fruit and watching a variety show on TV, teased, "Oh? You don't enjoy it?"
Lu Qingyan cleared his throat, "Well, that's not quite it. I simply treasure the free time I have and just want to spend it with you. I don't have time to study; I've already spent half my life learning. At my age, I should be resting."
This year, Lu Qingyan was going to turn twenty-eight.
Jiang Nanshu glanced at his abdomen hidden by his shirt, "I've heard that men start putting on weight after thirty. Not sure if it's true or not."
Lu Qingyan followed Jiang Nanshu's gaze and looked down, his face darkening, "Don't worry, I will maintain a good physique even when I'm old, and I'll still be handsome."
Jiang Nanshu couldn't help but burst into laughter at Lu Qingyan's remark; "When you're an old man, your face will be full of wrinkles."
"When I become an old man, you'll be an old lady too. If I am a handsome old man, then you'll be the prettiest old lady in our neighborhood," Lu Qingyan said, watching her with a smile.
He loved seeing Jiang Nanshu laugh; he could never get enough of it.
During this peaceful time, he suddenly realized that this was what life was all about.
His mindset had changed, too.
He wanted to keep making Jiang Nanshu happy. Having repressed his feelings for so long in the first half of his life, why not be a bit more carefree in the latter half with her by his side?
Jiang Nanshu frowned, touching her face. This year, she was also turning twenty-six.
She pouted, "I don't want to get old."
Seeing her upset, Lu Qingyan sat next to her, cupped her face with his hand, and looked at her intently, his eyes curving with a smile, "You won't. My Nannan looks as beautiful as an eighteen-year-old girl."
Although she knew Lu Qingyan was just trying to cheer her up, she still felt happy inside.
Then she suddenly felt at peace.
Being born, growing up, and growing old is just a part of life; one must accept and get used to the passage of time.
At the very least, she wouldn't be growing old alone; she had Lu Qingyan.
When Lu Qingyan would become an old man, she too would become an old lady.
The following day, Jiang Nanshu made an appointment for her prenatal check-up.
As usual, Lu Qingyan accompanied her.
He busied himself with her check-up; the reports would naturally be delivered to his hands, and he would examine them carefully, comparing them with the previous month's results.
He reminded Jiang Nanshu that she still needed to eat more during her pregnancy.
"Youyou! Youyou! Don't scare Mommy; Doctor! Doctor, wuu wuu wuu, come quickly, my daughter passed out."
Su Ran's panicked cries echoed through the hospital.
She ran frantically with disheveled hair, holding a little girl in her arms, and clung to the doctor as if he were a lifesaver.
The doctor quickly arranged for help and rushed the little girl into the operating room.
Su Ran, feeling guilty, ran and cried and prayed for her daughter's survival.
This scene unfolded before Jiang Nanshu's eyes.
Lu Qingyan took Jiang Nanshu's hand and walked outside, "Let's go, Nannan. Her daughter has leukemia. It's very hard to cure, and even if they find a suitable bone marrow match, they still have to fight against rejection. Plus, she's so young, her chances of survival are slim."
As the baby in her womb survived longer and longer, Jiang Nanshu felt a feeling she couldn't quite describe -- she was nurturing a little life, connected to her by blood.
She placed her hand on her belly and smiled at Lu Qingyan, "I hope it will be free of illness and misfortune, live safely and smoothly."
"It will happen," Lu Qingyan said, also placing his hand on Jiang Nanshu's belly, "I will go to the temple to pray for both of your safety."
