Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Sanctuary's Reckoning
The third floor of The Lumien's Sanctuary was a crucible of fire and despair. The oppressive heat from the molten lava below pressed in on them, and the macabre bridge of human bones seemed to mock their every step. The Skeletal Thralls and Liches, tireless and immune to their conventional attacks, had pushed them to their limits. They had retreated to a small, elevated alcove, battered and exhausted, their mana reserves dangerously low.
Orion felt a crushing weight of uselessness. His friends, despite their new Tier 3 powers and graded weapons, had struggled immensely. He, with his uncultivated 'Primordial Tether' and F-rank, Tier 1 status, had been a burden, constantly needing rescue. Lysander's harsh words about his "dead weight" status echoed in his mind.
"We can't just sit here," Rohan grunted, his face grim. "We're trapped. We have to try again."
"But how?" Kira whispered, her usual agility replaced by a weary slump. "They just keep coming. We can't kill them."
Seraphina, despite her own exhaustion, looked at each of them, her eyes shining with a quiet determination. "We have to keep trying. We're stronger than we were. Our techniques are integrated now. We can be faster, hit harder, heal more. We just need to find a way to get past them, to the next door." She offered a soft, encouraging smile. "We do this together. For everyone."
Her words, simple yet heartfelt, rekindled a flicker of hope in their weary hearts. They had faced overwhelming odds before, and they had survived.
"She's right," Aryan said quietly, his gaze steady. "We keep moving forward."
Orion activated his Dungeon Core Mark, focusing on his own status, then on his friends. A new stat appeared on their profiles, a measure of their physical endurance.

They rested for a few hours, allowing their mana to slowly replenish using the techniques' inherent recovery methods. Then, with renewed resolve, they stepped back onto the bone bridge.
They tried again. And again. And again.
Each attempt was a grueling, desperate push. They would battle the relentless Skeletal Thralls and Liches, Lysander a dark blur of 'Shadow Strike', Rohan a defiant 'Earthen Guard', Kira a fleeting 'Zephyr Dash', Seraphina a constant source of 'Life Bloom' and 'Verdant Whisper', Aryan a precise 'Mana Projection' and 'Echo Trace'. Orion, with his 'Unbound Blade', fought with desperate ferocity, trying to make every physical strike count, but still feeling the stark difference in power.
They would push a little further each time, their teamwork improving, their strategies adapting. But the sheer numbers and immunity of the undead, coupled with the oppressive heat and the draining mana nullification aura of the Liches, always forced them back. They would retreat, collapse in exhaustion, and watch their spectral screens.
[ Dungeon Notification: Stamina Increased! ]
Each time, after their failed attempts, they would see their stamina points increase by 5.

Orion, despite his own stamina increasing, felt the frustration mount. He was gaining endurance, but no new abilities, no breakthrough for his 'Primordial Tether'. He was still the one who fell, the one who needed saving. He was the unlucky one, the weakest. He watched his friends grow stronger with each attempt, their confidence soaring, while his own remained fragile.
Lysander, after their fourth failed attempt, slammed his fist against the cavern wall, a rare display of raw anger. "This is infuriating! We're Tier 3! We have graded weapons! Why can't we get past these glorified skeletons?!" His eyes, usually cold, burned with frustrated ambition. "Enough! We push through this time! No matter what!" He rose, his 'Shadow Weaver's Edge' already crackling with dark energy, and strode towards the bridge, a furious determination in his stride.
Rohan, seeing Lysander's resolve, nodded, his own frustration turning into grim determination. "He's right. We're not stopping." Kira, Seraphina, and Aryan exchanged resolute glances. They had come too far.
This time, their movements were sharper, their teamwork seamless. Lysander was a whirlwind of death, his 'Umbral Augment' making his 'Shadow Strike' spells tear through the undead with terrifying efficiency. Rohan, a living battering ram, used 'Earth's Resilience' to absorb blows, his 'Terra Fist' shattering bone with powerful shockwaves. Kira, a fleeting shadow, used 'Zephyr Dash' to outmaneuver entire groups, her 'Wind Blades' severing vital mana conduits within the Liches. Seraphina, her 'Verdant Heart Staff' glowing, was a constant source of healing and subtle 'Verdant Whispers', keeping their foes disoriented. Aryan, with his 'Aether Blade' and 'Mana Projection', provided crucial ranged support, his 'Echo Trace' predicting enemy movements, allowing the others to dodge fatal blows.
Orion, too, pushed himself to his limits. He activated 'Adaptive Edge', his 'Unbound Blade' extending and sharpening, allowing him to cut through the Thralls with more effectiveness. He moved with a desperate agility, trying to keep pace, to contribute, to not be a burden. He found himself in dangerous situations, stumbling, taking glancing blows, but his friends, now far more powerful and coordinated, were always there. Rohan would shield him, Kira would pull a Stalker away, Seraphina would send a 'Touch of Life' his way. He was still the weakest, but their collective strength was immense.
They pushed, step by agonizing step, across the bone bridge. The skeletal horde seemed endless, rising from the very ground, but their combined might, honed by repeated failure and fueled by desperation, was finally enough. They reached the far end, the entrance to the next floor, a colossal, unadorned stone door.
Lysander, breathing heavily, but with a triumphant glint in his eyes, slammed his hand against the door. It glowed, then slowly, majestically, began to open.
As the door creaked inward, revealing a glimpse of the next floor, a blinding flash of golden light erupted from the open treasure box behind them, far more intense than before. Simultaneously, a jarring, urgent alarm blared in Orion's mind, his spectral screen flashing with a terrifying, crimson warning.
[ EMERGENCY WARNING! ]
[ DUNGEON MAIN REWARD TAKEN! ]
[ DUNGEON CORE INTEGRITY: CRITICAL! ]
[ DUNGEON COLLAPSE IMMINENT! ]
[ ALL HOSTS: LEAVE THE DUNGEON IMMEDIATELY! ]
The ground beneath them shuddered violently. The entire cavern began to shake, dust and small pebbles raining down from the ceiling. The molten lava below them surged, splashing against the bridge with terrifying force. A deep, resonant groan, like the death rattle of an ancient beast, echoed through the entire Lumien's Sanctuary.
"What was that?!" Rohan yelled, stumbling as the cavern shook.
"The dungeon… it's collapsing!" Kira shrieked, pointing at the cracks rapidly appearing in the walls.
Lysander, his face pale with shock, stared at the treasure box. He hadn't even fully seen what was inside before the alarm. He instinctively reached in, grabbing the first solid object his hand could find, a small, oddly shaped stone, and pulled it out.
"Run! Back to the portal!" Lysander roared, his voice laced with uncharacteristic panic. "Now!"
The cavern was tearing itself apart. Skeletal Thralls and Liches, seemingly driven to a final, desperate frenzy by the dungeon's collapse, surged from the shadows, their empty eye sockets glowing with renewed malice.
"Fight your way out!" Rohan bellowed, activating 'Earth's Resilience', his 'Stone Guard Sphere' glowing.
They turned, a desperate, adrenaline-fueled sprint back across the now-crumbling bone bridge, battling the enraged undead, the ground shaking violently beneath their feet, the roar of the collapsing dungeon echoing around them.
