Chapter 29: The Promise of Being the Top Student!
Mr. Xu stared at Qi Yun for a long while, seemingly wanting to find a hint of lack of confidence on his face. However, in the end, it was he who first wavered.
He wondered to himself, could Qi Yun actually pull this off?
After thinking for a while, he said to Qi Yun: “Your words are hard for me to believe. So, if you score better than Lian Qingxue in this semester’s diagnostic test, I will agree.”
Qi Yun shook his head.
“What, you don’t dare?” Mr. Xu laughed.
It seemed this kid was just talking big.
“I won’t compete with Qingxue. What’s the point of bullying her? I will score first in the class this time, then you will agree to let me sit with her.”
Mr. Xu sneered internally: So, you’re ambitious enough to not just bully Lian Qingxue, but the entire class to be satisfied?
“Fine! If you come first in this test, I don’t care where you want to sit, you can even sit on the podium if you want!” Mr. Xu slammed the table.
“It’s a deal! Remember your words!”
Watching Qi Yun’s satisfied back as he left, Mr. Xu took another puff of his cigarette.
“This kid is quite interesting,” he said squinting.
An earlier eavesdropping teacher chimed in: “Absolutely interesting. I’ve never seen a student daring enough to negotiate terms with a teacher.”
Another female teacher joined: “But the kid is good-looking and seems quite mature when he speaks and acts. But Mr. Xu, did you really agree?”
“Hmph! This kid is still too young! Is coming first that easy? Don’t I know his grades? He ranked 31st out of 50 students last semester! I’m trying to make him study hard so that once he takes the test, he’ll know his limits! Not a bad tactic, right? This way, he’ll focus on his studies.”
“But he seems very confident?” the female teacher looked a bit surprised, “What if he actually manages to do it?”
Mr. Xu was taken aback and replied after a while: “The possibility is small. Besides, if he actually gets first place, I’d be overjoyed.”
At this, Mr. Xu grinned smugly: “In this deal, I will never lose!”
…
At dinner, Qi Yun and Wang Shang bought their meals at the school gate as usual.
Wang Shang suddenly asked, “You were called to Mr. Xu’s office today. What did he say?”
Many people saw Qi Yun entering Mr. Xu’s office today.
However, many didn’t know it was Qi Yun who sought out Mr. Xu.
They assumed Qi Yun was being scolded by Mr. Xu.
“It’s nothing. It wasn’t Mr. Xu who wanted to see me, I went to him. I’ve negotiated with him that if I come first in the test this time, he will let me sit with Lian Qingxue.”
Upon hearing this, Wang Shang was so startled that he stopped chewing the skewer in his mouth and stared at Qi Yun in shock.
“You went to Mr. Xu? And you aim to be first in the class?” He asked again.
“Yes.”
Qi Yun nodded, as if it were no big deal.
Wang Shang, seeing Qi Yun so calm, couldn’t help but worry: “Qi Yun, are you having a fever? This is too ambitious. Is it that easy to be first?”
“Don’t worry, I’m confident.”
Wang Shang smirked: “So this is what they mean when they say love makes people blind. I finally understand it today.”
He looked at the freshly bought skewers in his hand, and after a while, he handed one to Qi Yun: “Don’t say I’m not supportive. This skewer is my way of consoling you in advance!”
Qi Yun accepted the skewer silently, looking at Wang Shang’s smug face. It did taste better when it was free.
After buying dinner, Qi Yun also bought a small box of cheesecake for Lian Qingxue.
After their days of interaction.
Lian Qingxue no longer rejected his ‘feeding’.
The cheesecake was twelve yuan. Qi Yun calculated that he earned 110 yuan today.
Even though the amount was small, as long as he kept persisting, it would eventually add up!
…
Inside the classroom, Wang Shang watched as Lian Qingxue and Qi Yun sat shoulder to shoulder.
Lian Qingxue was eating the cheesecake little by little with a spoon.
From time to time, she would blush and feed Qi Yun a bite.
They were sharing the cheesecake.
He covered his chest, feeling as if his heart was shattered.
“I was wrong… Qi Yun doesn’t need consolation!”
“Who’s going to console me?!”
“I gave you skewers, and you’re feeding me dog food!”
…
“So, you have to come first in the class before we can sit together?” Lian Qingxue was a bit worried.
She knew Qi Yun’s grades were improving rapidly.
But without a formal test, no one knew exactly how well he was doing.
Although she had confidence in Qi Yun, she couldn’t help but worry until the final results came out.
Just as Lian Qingxue was worrying, the first diagnostic test of the new semester arrived.
