Chapter 9: The Strategy of Capturing the Childhood Sweetheart CEO 8
The next day, when Elora returned home from work, she was surprised to find Lucas seated in the living room, engaged in lively conversation with her parents.
"Lucas? What are you doing here?" Elora's face lit up with delight. She hadn't expected Lucas to come over personally, and she couldn't hide her joy.
"I came to return your car," Lucas explained casually. Since he didn't have any important meetings that day, he decided to personally deliver the car and take the opportunity to see Elora.
"Hehe, if I'd known you were coming, I would have left early," Elora teased, her eyes sparkling.
"Er... Lora, we're still here!" Elora's father said in mock exasperation. To openly mention leaving early in front of the chairman was quite the audacity.
"Our Lora has only had eyes for Lucas since she walked through the door—she doesn't even notice us, the two spare bulbs!" Elora's mother added with a mischievous grin.
"Mom, Dad, stop teasing me! Lucas is still here!" Elora pouted, wrapping her arm around her mother's and giving it a playful shake, looking both disgruntled and endearing.
This was the first time Lucas had seen Elora act so childishly, and he couldn't help but be surprised. How many sides of her was he still unaware of?
"Lucas, stay for dinner!" Elora's father said warmly. He was growing increasingly fond of his prospective son-in-law, appreciating his maturity and grounded nature.
"I have some matters to attend to, so I can't stay for dinner," Lucas replied with a polite smile. Although he wanted to stay, a few tasks at the company still required his attention. They weren't urgent, but he knew how even the smallest oversight could have unintended consequences—he understood well the saying "the last straw that breaks the camel's back."
"Alright, since you have business to take care of, I won't insist. But remember, young man, don't let work overtake your health," Elora's father advised, a touch of fatherly concern in his voice.
"Of course, I'll visit again when I have the time. Please take care," Lucas said with a nod, rising to leave.
"Lora, go see Lucas off!" Elora's mother prodded her daughter with a sly grin.
Elora didn't want to admit it, but she could clearly see the mischievous glint in her mother's eyes. It was as if she was saying, "I've set the stage for you. Don't miss this chance, go ahead and take the plunge!"
"Alright, Lucas, I'll see you out!" Elora responded, though internally she was on the verge of a meltdown. But there was no denying it—she was excited to have some time alone with Lucas.
"Goodbye, Uncle and Aunt!" Lucas said with a polite wave, and the two walked out side by side.
"Don't mind her, that's just how my mom is!" Elora said awkwardly as soon as they stepped outside.
"It's fine, I'm used to it," Lucas replied with a smile.
"Hehe, so where are we going now?" Elora asked, curious.
"To the office," Lucas answered, already heading toward the car.
"Hmm... take me to your office! I've never been there before!" Elora said, her eyes lighting up with curiosity.
"Alright," Lucas agreed after a brief moment of thought.
He reached the car and opened the door for her. Once she was settled, he walked around to the driver's side and got in.
"Why aren't we moving?" Elora asked, noticing Lucas sitting still without any apparent motion.
Lucas glanced over at her, his gaze lingering for a moment. Elora looked back, perplexed.
Before she could think much further, Lucas suddenly lunged forward...
A wave of tobacco scent enveloped her, and Elora's heart began to race uncontrollably. Her face flushed with embarrassment, and she didn't know where to put her hands. Is he planning to do something inappropriate? she wondered in a panic. Am I ready for this? Should I accept it?
Click! The sound of the seatbelt fastening broke through her thoughts. Elora exhaled a breath she hadn't realized she was holding, feeling a strange mix of disappointment and relief.
"You didn't fasten your seatbelt," Lucas said casually, sitting back in his seat.
"Oh... oh... thank you!" Elora mumbled, still flustered.
"What's this? Do you want me to do something to you?" Lucas teased, glancing at her with a playful gleam in his eyes. He couldn't resist poking fun at the conflicted expression on her face.
"W-what?! No... I don't want you to do anything! Don't say such things!" Elora stammered, her face turning even redder as she turned her gaze away from him.
Lucas merely smirked, his attention returning to the road as he drove, deciding to leave her to her thoughts.
Hmph, who would have thought... Lucas is actually like this! I completely misjudged him! Elora's inner monologue was tinged with disbelief, as she tried to come to terms with her emotions.
