Chapter 29: The Spring of the Chubby Girl 8

Time flew by, and Elora was about to welcome her most cherished winter break, but before that, the dreaded final exams loomed ahead.

After months of diligent study, Elora's math skills had finally shown some improvement. More importantly, she had stopped falling asleep during math class, and even the way her teacher looked at her had softened considerably.

"Elora, Cole, please come to my office," the teacher's sudden voice startled Elora. She glanced at the teacher, standing by the window, and her instinctive guilt surged. After all, she had been notorious for napping during math lessons, always fearing the teacher might sneak up on her from the window or the back door.

...

"The results of the English competition are out. Cole secured first place, and Elora took second," the teacher said, beaming at Elora. "Though you came second, you were just one point behind Cole. Congratulations! Both of you have been granted admission to A University."

Hearing this, Cole sighed in relief. While he didn't care much about the automatic admission, as he could easily gain entry to A University on his own if he chose to, Elora was a different matter. Her struggles with math had always dragged down her overall score, and getting into A University had seemed uncertain for her. But now, with her admission secured, that meant they wouldn't be separated.

"The top three are eligible for direct admission, and there's one more student joining you two at A University—rumor has it, it's a female student," the teacher continued, growing even more pleased. This was a nationwide competition, and the top three could be admitted to A University in N City, the capital, which was ranked first in the country. There were only three spots, and two of them were in his class. It seemed like a substantial bonus was in the works for him this semester.

"Go home and get ready for next semester; you'll be heading to A University."

"Does that mean I don't have to take the final exams?" Elora, momentarily lost in thought, blurted out a rather naïve question.

Cole couldn't help but shake his head. How did he end up with a girlfriend whose reflexes were so much slower than others? "Forget about the finals; you don't even need to worry about the college entrance exams."

"Then will you study with me at university?" Elora gazed at Cole intently, wanting to see his confirmation, to secure this moment in her heart.

With a tender smile, Cole gazed down at Elora. "Yes, I'll study at A University with you." His heart softened as he met her earnest gaze, and he unconsciously reached out to gently pat her head.

"Cough... cough... you two can go now," the teacher muttered, looking a little uncomfortable. Was it really appropriate for them to display such intimacy in front of their homeroom teacher? Well, given their excellent grades, and Cole's status as the heir to Grandway Mall, he'd usually turn a blind eye, but seeing them so openly display affection was another matter. It left him feeling rather vexed.

Elora was elated, not only because she was free from exams, but more so because this time, unlike in her past life, Cole had chosen to stay with her, opting for A University instead of going abroad after graduation.

...

"It's only noon. Why are you home so early? Skipping class again?" Elora's mother caught her the moment she stepped into the house.

"Mom, I swear I didn't skip class! The teacher sent me home early!" Elora raised her hand solemnly as if swearing an oath.

"Don't try to fool me. Why would the teacher send you home?" Her mother looked skeptical.

"I participated in a national English competition, and I got second place! I've been directly admitted to A University, so I don't need to attend class anymore!" Elora glanced at her mother, who looked utterly dumbfounded. "Mom? Hello?" Elora waved her hand in front of her mother's face.

"You... You're not joking, are you?" Her mother stared at her in disbelief.

"Don't believe me? You can call my teacher and ask." Just as Elora finished speaking, she saw her mother rush into the living room, grabbing the phone. It seemed she was about to call to verify the news.

Her mother, who had never suspected Elora of lying, couldn't fathom how her daughter had become so suddenly brilliant. Of course, she needed to confirm it by calling the teacher.

Elora set her backpack down and walked into the living room, only to find her mother standing there, dazed, her phone fallen onto the sofa. Had her mother lost her mind? Elora approached her and gently tapped her back. "Mom, are you okay?"

Her mother stared at Elora, her face blank, and after a long pause, just when Elora was about to call for help, she suddenly screamed, rushing forward to embrace Elora. "Lora, you got into A University! You've really made us proud. I have to call your father right now!" Before Elora could react, her mother had already dashed off to make the call.

Seeing her mother return to her senses, Elora retreated to her room. She lay on her bed and, after a moment's hesitation, picked up the phone she had recently bought, intending to call Cole. But doubt lingered.

He's probably busy, right? Isn't this a bit too forward? Should I call him or not? She pressed the dial button several times, but each time, before the call connected, she hung up again, repeating the cycle. She never made the call before her father returned home.
