Chapter 15: The Unseen Hand – (REMAKE)

The incident with the Reverse-Flash left everyone shaken. Barry was more determined than ever to get faster. Joe was more convinced than ever that the yellow blur was connected to Nora's murder. And Adam? Adam was more convinced than ever that Harrison Wells was a master manipulator, pulling strings from his wheelchair.

" He's good. Too good. He's not just reacting; he's orchestrating. He's like a cosmic chess player, and we're all just his pawns. And I'm the one pawn who knows he's about to be sacrificed. Repeatedly."

Adam's 'Enhanced Observation' was now permanently dialed up to eleven whenever Wells was around. He watched him in the Cortex, in his private lab, even during casual conversations. He noticed the subtle ways Wells would steer conversations, subtly nudge Barry towards specific training regimens, or subtly dismiss Joe's theories about the yellow blur.

One afternoon, Wells was "guiding" Barry through a particularly grueling speed test, pushing him to his limits. Adam knew this test was designed not just to train Barry, but to gather data for Thawne's own purposes. He saw Wells subtly adjust a setting on the console, a tiny, almost imperceptible flick of his finger. It was too fast for anyone else to notice, but Adam's enhanced senses caught it. The setting would push Barry just a little too hard, risking injury.

" He's trying to break him. Or push him to a specific point. This isn't just training; it's manipulation. And I can't let him get hurt. Not like this."

Adam casually strolled over to the console, pretending to admire the blinking lights. "You know, Dr. Wells," he said, loud enough for Barry to hear, "this whole 'speed' thing is fascinating. But isn't there a risk of… overdoing it? Like, if Barry pushes himself too hard, too fast, couldn't it cause a… vibrational overload? Like, a really bad case of the jitters, but for his entire body?"

Wells paused, his finger hovering over the setting. He looked at Adam, a hint of annoyance in his eyes. "An interesting theory, Mr. Stiels. But Mr. Allen's physiology is unique."

"Sure, sure," Adam waved a dismissive hand. "But even unique physiologies have limits, right? I mean, you wouldn't want him to accidentally vibrate himself into a different dimension, would you? That would be a real pain to explain to Joe. And the insurance company."

Caitlin, who had been listening, chimed in. "Adam has a point, Dr. Wells. We don't fully understand the long-term effects of this much speed on a human body. Perhaps a slightly less… aggressive setting for now?"

Wells hesitated, then, with a barely perceptible sigh, he adjusted the setting back to a safer level. "Perhaps you are right, Dr. Snow. Caution is always prudent."

Adam felt a small victory. He had subtly counteracted Wells's manipulation. It wasn't a grand expose, but it was a small win. A nudge in the right direction.

" That was close. Too close. He's testing the waters. Testing my waters. He knows I'm observing. He just doesn't know how much."

Later, Adam found Joe in his office, still poring over Nora Allen's case files. Joe looked exhausted, frustrated.

"It's like chasing ghosts, Adam," Joe said, rubbing his temples. "This yellow blur… it just doesn't make sense."

"It will, Joe," Adam said, sitting down. "Eventually. Sometimes, the answers are right in front of you, but you're looking for something too complicated. What if the answer isn't about who he is, but what he is? And why he's doing it?"

Joe looked at him, intrigued. "What do you mean?"

"I mean," Adam leaned forward, lowering his voice, "what if he's not just a criminal? What if he's… a scientist? Someone who understands the accelerator. Someone who knows how to use speed, not just as a weapon, but as a tool. And what if his motive isn't just money, or power, but… time?"

Joe stared at him, his brow furrowed. "Time? Adam, what are you talking about?"

"Just a theory, Joe," Adam said, leaning back. "A very, very wild theory. But think about it. If someone could travel through time, what would they do? Change things? Fix things? Or… break things? And what if Nora Allen's murder wasn't just a murder, but… a point in time? A fixed point?"

Joe was silent for a long moment, pondering. Adam knew he was planting seeds. Dangerous seeds. But necessary ones. He couldn't just stand by and let Thawne continue his manipulation. He had to give them the tools, the information, even if it was just a whisper.

" This is my dilemma. How much do I reveal? How much do I interfere? Every action, every word, could ripple through the timeline. But if I do nothing, then all the pain, all the suffering, it just happens. And I know it's coming. I can't just watch."

He felt the weight of his meta-knowledge, the burden of knowing the future. It was a superpower in itself, but also a curse. He had to be careful. He had to be subtle. He had to play the long game. And he had to hope that his sarcastic wit and occasional moments of brilliance would be enough to guide them through the coming storm.
