Chapter 13: Addressing Water Disasters, Mobilizing the West
Emperor Shun stared blankly at the guide, his heart filled with shock. However, contrary to what the guide had in mind, what concerned him was the Demon Race, the Ancient Demon Race!
Who could have imagined that the two seemingly natural disasters of flooding were actually the meddling of the Ancient Demon Race!
As the Sovereign of the Human Clan, Emperor Shun harbored a deep-seated hatred for the Demon Race.
The events of the Witch Demon War, where the Demon Race slaughtered the human race, had been recorded by Xuanyuan in the historical texts, and were mandatory reading when he ascended as the Human Emperor.
He knew that humiliating, almost tragic history better than anyone else.
What shocked Emperor Shun even more was that these ancient demons still dared to commit such heinous acts, much like their previous slaughter of the human race.
The more he thought about it, the more furious Emperor Shun became, his anger boiling over as he exclaimed loudly, "How audacious of you, Demon Race! Do you really think you can bully our Human Clan? During the Witch Demon War, you tormented our people mercilessly, and now that we've begun to recover, you cause trouble again. This is utterly intolerable!"
After speaking, Emperor Shun gasped for breath, obviously enraged to the extreme.
However, after a moment, Emperor Shun calmed down, considering that although the Demon Race had been severely weakened after the Witch Demon War, many legendary demons still survived.
Although the Human Clan had developed and produced several Saints over the years, they still had many limitations. If these demons were truly provoked to massacre humans, the tragedies of the past would surely repeat themselves.
Thinking of this, Emperor Shun felt a wave of distress wash over him.
When he looked at the guide in front of him, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he bowed deeply, choking on his words, "Master, now that the Demon Race plagues our people, I fear that our clan might not withstand them! You always say, 'Saving one life is more meritorious than building a seven-level pagoda.' Now, millions of our people live in dire straits; I hope you will take pity and save our Human Clan!"
The guide was taken aback upon hearing this, his expression gradually turned grave.
But who would know the turmoil in his heart at this moment! He originally thought that the capital was the center of the Huaxia Clan. Accepting the sovereign as a disciple would naturally be more conducive to finding the one to cross tribulation on the Path to Heaven. Who expected such trouble to arise halfway through? How could he be happy about that?
However unwilling he was in his heart, what needed to be done still had to be done. Saving the Human Clan would not only help spread the teachings of Buddhism but also earn merit, so why not do it?
With that thought, the guide helped Emperor Shun to his feet and said, "Do not worry, Sovereign! As your master, I will call upon my disciples to come and assist you."
Emperor Shun was overjoyed and thanked him again.
The guide waved his hand, contemplated for a moment, and then said, "After the Witch Demon War, the Demon Race was ordered to permanently reside on Mount Sumeru and Ying Platform. Their departure from the island already violates the vows of that time. Nevertheless, I will rush back to Mount Sumeru now, and call your senior fellow disciples to come and aid you, so we need not fear the Demon Race!"
Emperor Shun quickly thanked him, "Thank you, Master, for your help."
The guide no longer paid attention to Emperor Shun but swept through the void with a wave of his hand and stepped into it.
Meanwhile, in East Kunlun Mountain, The Three Pure Ones were puzzled by the sudden visit of Li Qingming.
Just a quarter of an hour ago, Li Qingming had arrived at East Kunlun Mountain with a smile on his face. After entering the Hall of The Three Pure Ones, he burst into laughter that simply couldn't be stopped.
The laughter left The Three Pure Ones a bit lost, feeling chillingly cold.
Finally, it was Tongtian who asked, "I say, Qingmingzi. What are you up to this time, laughing so lewdly?"
Li Qingming's expression stiffened, and he said indignantly, "Master Uncle, I just harvested the Enlightenment Tea on my island. I was going to give you a few kilograms, but it seems you don't need it now!"
"No, no, don't stop!" Tongtian jumped up and said, "You always threaten me with this stuff! Alright, I'll keep quiet, isn't that enough?"
Enlightenment Tea is a treasure of enlightenment; it's of little use to Saints, at most a novelty to drink.
Tongtian loved wine and didn't care much about tea. But he had disciples. If the young ones could enhance their cultivation with the help of Enlightenment Tea, describing their rate of progress as "advancing by leaps and bounds" would not be an exaggeration. Thus, for the sake of his disciples, he endured!
"Alright! Tongtian, talk less!" Primordial frowned and advised.
Laozi, with his long eyebrows fluttering lightly, looked at Li Qingming who had returned to normal but was still smiling, and asked, "Qingmingzi, what has made you so happy?"
"Master, I have found two who can break through the Path to Heaven! Two of them, haha..." Li Qingming laughed loudly, his expression gleeful with a touch of schadenfreude.
"Hmm?" Laozi's eyes flashed with keen interest, "Oh? Do you know who these two are?"
Both Primordial and Tongtian looked expectantly at Li Qingming.
Li Qingming nodded slightly, saying, "Yes! But, how should I put it? These two are a bit special, I can only tell you about one of them for now, the other you will find out later!"
"Oh?" Primordial stroked his black beard and asked, "Then tell us about the first one."
"Yu!" Li Qingming glanced at the Three Pure Ones, his thin lips lightly uttering the word.
The Three Pure Ones looked at each other in confusion and said, "Yu?".
Li Qingming touched his smooth chin and declared confidently, "Yes, Yu! Dayu!"
...
Blooms open side by side, each bearing their own stem.
Speaking of which, after Zhunti returned to Mount Sumeru, he summoned the Eighteen Arhats, Five Directions Jiedi, three thousand Buddhas, and two thousand Bodhisattvas, instructing them, "Currently, the Demon Race is causing chaos among the Human Clan, triggering massive floods and bringing great harm to them. You all should descend the mountain with this poor monk to aid Emperor Shun in managing the water. Once Emperor Shun's merit is complete, you too shall receive a share of the merit."
Hearing this, the Buddha's sons knelt and said in unison, "Disciple dutifully obeys the Buddha's decree."
Zhunti nodded slightly and then asked Mile to lead the numerous disciples along three separate routes to the disaster-stricken areas.
As the main person in charge, Zhunti stayed behind, alone he went to the Bodhi Tree in the backyard of the Great Leiyin Temple, bowing as he said, "Master, I wonder what your views are on this matter?"
Xuanhu looked up at Zhunti and said, "First, let's hear your thoughts."
Zhunti thought for a long while and said, "Master, this event is full of strangeness. First off, the Demon Race violated the rules set by the Tao Ancestor by secretly leaving their positions at Fanzhang and Ying Platform. Moreover, they dared to stir up a calamity bearing immense karma. Who instructed them? What purpose do they have? Additionally, why do the Three Saint Emperors of the Human Clan and saints like Qingmingzi who support the Human Clan, show indifference to this matter? It's not logical."
Xuanhu smiled and glanced at Zhunti, "Zhunti, this chaos caused by the Demon Race within the Human Clan is simply a test from the Heavenly Dao. Those old fellows are cunning from age, knowing what cannot be done yet do it. Wouldn't they just be seeking trouble?"
"Then, how should we in the Western Teachings handle ourselves?" Zhunti asked with a troubled expression, as he had already dispatched all his Buddhist disciples. Wouldn't calling them back now just turn them into a laughing stock among the Primordial's powers?
Xuanhu waved his hand and said, "Don't worry! Although this matter carries a slight danger, it nonetheless brings an opportunity for merit. After achieving success in this venture, our Western Teachings shall surely flourish, and we can also vie for a place among the Human Clan. Great prosperity is not far off."
Zhunti frowned, a hint of worry in his expression, "But Master, in a few hundred years, the Path to Heaven will open. Will that not affect our plans?"
Xuanhu nonchalantly waved his hand, "Zhunti, the heavenly secrets are chaotic at this moment, although there are opportunities to exploit. But remember, managing water is permissible, yet never interfere in matters of the Demon Race, or else you'll surely invoke Heavenly Punishment."
Zhunti nodded his head and said, "Master, rest assured, I will act cautiously! Regarding the Demon Race, I won't interfere, the Path to Heaven is indeed of utmost importance!"
Hearing Zhunti's words, Xuanhu slightly nodded, then closed his eyes for a meditative rest, returning to his cultivation.
Seeing Xuanhu enter cultivation again, Zhunti left Mount Sumeru and headed for the capital of Jizhou.
As Mile led a legion of disciples to the Yellow River Waterfront, they were stupefied by the scene before them!
Xuzhou had become completely desolate, with no houses, land, or rocks visible; it was entirely submerged, the fierce waves rivaled those of the great seas.
Numerous corpses of living beings floated on the river's surface, horrifically swollen from water.
An infinite resentment condensed into black clouds of evil Qi over the water, with screams of agony hovering in the sky, lingering endlessly.
"This, this is simply inhuman!" Mile's face turned an ashen hue, not from fright, though. After all, though he fancied himself as noble, he was still a Buddhist at heart and couldn't help feeling compassion at the sight of such devastation, which genuinely sparked his anger.
"All disciples, heed my command; retrieve the Yellow River waters with your bowls and merge them into the Four Seas!" After contemplating for a while, Mile was the first to brandish his golden bowl, shouting loudly.
"Om!"
Golden Buddha Power surged, and immense Spiritual Energy dispersed throughout the midair.
Then, an awe-inspiring scene unfolded as three thousand Buddhas each brandished their bowls; specks of golden light swirled outside the bowls, resembling golden beetles with wings, fluttering their round bodies as they ascended to the heavens.
"Whoosh!"
Terrifying suction came from within the bowls, and the murky Yellow River Water shimmering with golden light converged into massive water dragons flowing upward towards the bowls.
In just a quarter of an hour, the overflowing river water from the Yellow River was already withdrawn by seventy to eighty percent.
Just as a smile formed on Mile's face, the previously calm Yellow River water suddenly split apart, a giant wave rising from the river surface, from which a dark tunneling light flew out.
Upon closer inspection, Mile and others saw that this tunneling light was a person.
The individual was approximately nine feet tall, clad in a black Daoist robe, with a face exceedingly handsome yet exuding an air of malevolence. However, upon meticulous observation, it was apparent that there was no Mana fluctuation on him, and even his appearance was very unfamiliar.
But only a fool would think this man in the black robe was a mere mortal. Could a mortal split the waters? Could a mortal stand suspended in the air? Ridiculous! (To be continued.
