Chapter 1573: A Feng Shui Treasure Land (19)
"If she weren't away from the village, how could she miss the chance to take advantage of your feast?" Wang Hehua sneered.
"But really, it's quite amusing. From now on, if someone's without a wife, they just need to wander around the foot of the mountain or by the riverbank. Who knows, they might just pick up a wife someday," Li Lengshi laughed aloud, even though she had to shout across a few people to be heard. "The bachelors around here better keep their eyes open..."
This immediately triggered a burst of laughter, and the crowd began pointing fingers at who still lacked a wife and should start wandering. The atmosphere grew lively in no time.
Yang Ruxin, however, furrowed her brow slightly. She wasn't concerned about people taking advantage, but her thoughts turned to the woman she'd seen yesterday—the one from the Zong Family.
Zheng Kuan had rescued a wife from the foot of the mountain, and now Wang Wen had fished another wife out of the river. Truly, this village seemed to be a place blessed by the heavens.
"Xinxin... Big Sister..." At that moment, someone approached from the distance, carrying a bamboo basket in their hands. From a ways off, they began calling out, "Oh my, today is indeed a fine day..."
The crowd stopped their jokes and turned to look, their faces immediately revealing expressions of disdain. That Yang Baihui—her face was thick-skinned beyond belief.
But Yang Baihui hadn't anticipated what would happen next. Before she could even get close, she was stopped.
"What are you doing? Let me pass! I'm here for my dear niece's birthday." Yang Baihui reached out to push away Black Wolf, who was blocking her path. "Can't you see I even brought a gift?" She waved her hand toward Yang Ruxin. "Xinxin, I brought eggs for you..."
Black Wolf flipped the knife he held in his hand, turning the blade outward.
Yang Baihui hurriedly pulled back her hand. "Look at you, so rude..." Then she suddenly raised her voice to shout, "Xinxin... I'm your aunt!"
Yang Ruxin didn't even bother to lift her eyelids.
"Oh, Yang Baihui, why are you here again?" Zhao Xinghua cracked a smile. "Couldn't get what you wanted last time, so you're back to try again?"
"Indeed, I've never seen anyone with such a thick skin." The old woman sitting across from Zhao Xinghua nodded in agreement.
"What can you do? Xinxin is capable now; it's no surprise that people are jealous." Wang Hehua picked up a piece of fish and put it in her mouth, marveling at how the same grass carp from Xinxin's family tasted so unbelievably delicious.
The fish from the special space naturally tasted better than any ordinary fish.
Yang Baihui's face turned an unsightly shade, but she endured without losing her temper. She was here today to mend fences. After receiving guidance from an esteemed figure, she realized that if she built a good relationship with that brat, she'd be able to get a large chunk of money. She had already pocketed ten taels of silver—otherwise, she wouldn't even bother coming. Yet, what was with that brat's reaction? Acting like she didn't see her?
Du Juan quickly strode over. "Scram."
"You... Ah—" Yang Baihui barely had time to say anything before she found herself airborne, flying in an arc, and landing with a splat on the ground.
The basket she carried spilled its contents, eggs smashing everywhere, leaving her newly purchased outfit smeared in a mess.
But that wasn't the end of it. Du Juan stepped closer, picking up a wooden stick, and drew a line in the dirt directly in front of Yang Baihui. She glanced at Black Wolf. "Miss said, cross this line and we'll beat you. Doesn't matter if it's to death or just maiming."
"Don't worry, I'll make sure not to hold back," Black Wolf grinned.
The staggered Yang Baihui had just managed to get one foot off the ground before she quickly placed it back down. She looked at the far-off entrance, glanced at her sticky basket and dirty clothes, and finally stomped her foot before walking away.
