The Fake Daughter is the Hidden Bigshot

Chapter 5: Half-daughter

Not wanting to be in the limelight yet not wanting to be looked down upon as easy prey, Ming Yue waited to go out with her family.

She knew better than to go out unknowingly and attract some pest, planned or unplanned.

'Hey! System! Tell me something to pass the time,' she asked with a slight pout on her lips as she waited to be called.

[...Well, there's tons of juicy gossip awaiting you were you to simply go to the banquet area.]

'Ugh,' She frowned, barely controlling the urge to storm out and get all the details herself.

If only her system could tell her everything without needing the other party to be present or for her to know their names in advance.

Well, it was actually just her hypothesis.

She wasn't sure about it as the system seemed deaf and dumb whenever she wanted to ask about its functioning.

Meanwhile, in a lavish room five times the size of Ming Yue's sat Shen Pei'er with a room full of clothes, jewelries, bags, shoes, heels, and everything she would ever need to choose from.

Yet the makeup artists were still busy painting her face, to make her look as exquisite as possible but also with a natural look.

A terrifyingly tough task, given she was a beauty, but not extremely beautiful to the point of turning heads her way with her bare face.

In fact, even Ming Yue didn't look that good or else her life would be full of roadblocks unless she could go everywhere with bodyguards.

"My dear sister looks the best!" came the voice of her brother.

She knew he had just entered the room and a barely perceptible smile formed on her lips, controlled so as to not ruin her soft makeup.

She was almost done being dolled up and it was her turn to go with her brother to walk down the stairs.

A classical stunning entrance or so she believed.

And just as she emerged from her room, eyes shining with stars and arms linked with her brother, she was surprised by the plainness of Ming Yue's dress.

However, before she could mock her, she ended up seeing Ming Yue's exquisite look and was too stunned to speak.

Her brother was likely the same until she pinched his arm to bring him back to the present.

Perhaps shocked by his own loss of composure, he revealed a dissatisfied look and made a mental note to blacklist those makeup assistants.

Poor guys never got to perform and would even loose future jobs because of a petty boss.

They could probably swear that they didn't even do much!

There wasn't much to be done, to begin with.

Unbeknownst of their plight, Ming Yue looked up to see the duo and a sharp glint flashed in her eyes.

Though she quickly concealed it, it still gave the two siblings a jolt in their backs.

"Let's go," her brother said somewhat dismissively and led Shen Pei'er by herself.

Yet Ming Yue only felt ridicule and amusement after noting the mocking look from Shen Pei'er.

'She probably thinks I am jealous of her intimacy with her brother??'

It was really... a new worldview for Ming Yue, who found it increasingly funny.

In her eyes, they were just two clowns jumping around, unaware of their own hideous thoughts.

[...This host is too carefree.] The system could only sigh with nothing better to do.

Alas, it remembered it's job as Ming Yue walked behind the pair of siblings to stand atop the stairs.

"...and now I warmly welcome my dear, Shen Pei'er!"

The voice of Mother Shen echoed as all the lights dimmed, giving a spotlight effect on the siblings.

'...and it would be a true perfect cliche if she missteps and he holds her by the waist...'

Just as Ming Yue mentally commented it to add some spice, she was dumbfounded to see it come true!!

'What the hell!? Do I have a jinxing tongue!? No, wait! I only thought of it, not said it aloud!'

The system was left speechless at this turn of events and really wanted to curse to vent it's complicated emotions.

[Why did I get such a strange host!?] It wanted to yell, but couldn't offend its host.

Poor system.

Meanwhile, Ming Yue had a gossipy look in her eyes as she asked the system, 'Say, what if it's the half-'

[No!]

Before she could even complete her questions, the system hurriedly cut her in.

It really didn't want to think in that direction or check their gossip.

So it tried to divert the gossip-hungry Ming Yue.

[Host, look! That guy over there...]

Perhaps intrigued by the system's words and diversions, she stepped forwards.

Her heel echoing harshly against the marble as she scraped upon it, too eager to wait in this standstill.

Scree

It was then that everyone realized they were half-frozen looking at the odd position of the siblings and had let their thoughts run wild.

And the jarring sound brought them back to their selves, prompted to look up.

Their gazes converged on Ming Yue, who almost rushed down the stairs but controlled herself to be two steps behind the siblings.

While the two did look normal, she wasn't interested in them at all, her eyes flowing around the hall, trying to see who would satisfy her urge to consume gossip.

[Host, there! Look, look! That sleazy old guy!]

'Hm? He looks to be someone who ought to be handsome in his youth, no?' Ming Yue asked curiously, wanting to know his gossip.

[Well, yes. But that's not the point! Look at his eyes, staring at the girl next to him so openly!]

'Ah? So what? There are even more disgusting scum everywhere,' Ming Yue countered, not particularly interested in this sort of gossip.

[Ah! That's actually his half-daughter!]

'Huh? What do you mean half-daughter?!' Ming Yue asked, too shocked by the words.

[Ahem, let me explain. She was birthed by his first tryst but... that's not his daughter!! It's his sister-in-law's!]

Ming Yue stood there, completely dumbfounded at the nonsensical words before asking a question hesitantly.

'System... I am not in some ABO world or omegaverse, am I?'

[Huh? What are you tlaking about? This is just a plain normal world!]

'Then what the heck you mean by half-daughter??'
