chapter 10
10 – Infinite Refill Skeletons.
Carter Rivera suddenly came to the dormitory at night and the principal asked me to come to the principal’s office tomorrow morning, so I thought vaguely that I had something to do as the student council president. But that night, strangely, I couldn’t sleep, so I thought about why the principal called, and I remembered the story I had heard during the day.
‘The Necromancer came to Setin.’
Even the student council president knew that Professor Grace, who was in charge of the second year purification practice, was recruiting necromancers as assistant instructors. Although the student council did not have absolute power, the class plan was quickly accessible. With just a few clues, Carter Rivera, convinced that the reason the principal had called her tomorrow was the necromancer, couldn’t sleep.
The Rivera Kingdom is located in the northern part of the Holy Union. If you go completely to the north, there is Necropolis, the city of necromancers, so the kingdoms in the Holy Union, especially those in the north, were always prepared for necromancers. You may think that the Necromancer is a grateful being who blocks the northern monsters, but if that power is directed downward, the kingdoms that exist from the center to the north will be attacked first.
In order to learn how to respond to the necromancer who might turn into an enemy, the royal family of the Rivera kingdom went to Cetin Divine Academy as a place of learning rather than a meeting place, and graduated with excellent grades every time. Carter was also a little excited at the thought of going to Cetin to study, but he was a little disappointed to hear what his older brother, who had graduated from Cetin before him, had said.
‘In Setin, we do not teach how to deal with ‘the situation’ that we are concerned about.’
It was disappointing that my brother couldn’t learn how to deal with ‘that situation’, but the difference in skills before and after graduating from the academy was incomparable.
Carter also spent two and a half years receiving high grades every time after admission, but he thought that he would not be able to learn what he wanted to learn like his older brother. He was proud of learning the ‘Star Light Spear’ that his older brother hadn’t learned, but he hadn’t had a chance to use it in real combat. After graduating from Setin, she had to go back to the kingdom and work as a princess, so the opportunity to learn came when she thought that there was not much time left to learn and experience.
Ed Frozenborn, the man with silver hair standing in front of you, is said to be a 7th-level necromancer. Carter’s heart was pounding that he could fight such a necromancer.
“Necromancer, how do you plan to fight?”
When Enild Cetin Quasar asked, Ed immediately answered.
“If you look at Professor Grace’s syllabus, there is one skeleton for practice and three skeletons for performance evaluation. I showed Cymus how to fight ‘Necromancer’ yesterday, but I’ll do it according to the syllabus.”
Hearing Ed’s words, Enild’s face was dissatisfied.
“Student President Carter Rivera, will that be enough?”
“No. I also want to experience fighting ‘Necromancer’.”
Hearing Carter’s answer, Enild smiled in satisfaction. Carter felt grateful because the principal had called him to experience the battle with the necromancer. Conversely, Ed pondered for a moment on what to do.
“Okay. Then we’ll proceed with three steps. First one.”
Ed held the necromancer license in his pocket, opened the subspace, and took out a skeleton.
The white bones that looked like people were united and moved around the core in the middle of the body.
‘It’s a bit strange and scary to see them actually moving.’
Cutter took a close look at the skeleton he had never seen before. Ed pulled out another skeleton and said.
“Will Miss Carter be without a weapon?”
“Yes. I’m a mage.”
Ed manipulated the second skeleton to take the practice sword from the corner of the arena and hand it to the first skeleton.
Department head Hosen-kyu stood between the prepared Carter and the skeleton, and after enjoying the silence, he exclaimed.
“Start evaluation.”
Carter immediately backed away. A mage’s weakness is distance, and you have to attack while keeping the distance as much as possible. The first magic to learn in Setin is Magic Bullet, a magic that gathers mana and shoots it forward. Carter aimed at the skeleton with his right hand and fired three shots in succession.
– Kang!
– Kang!
– Kang!
Skeleton charged while swinging his practice sword and bouncing magic bullets. Carter, who did not think that he would be blocked so easily, decided to move on to the next step of magic bullet without panic. Attributes were applied to light bullets and magic bullets. Each person has different suitable attributes, but Carter, like the lineage of the Rivera royal family, developed the light attribute, and the light bullets flew towards the skeleton at a speed incomparable to magic bullets.
– Kaang!
“what…?”
Even the faster-flying light bullets were easily knocked off by the skeletons. As Carter panicked, Housen asked Ed.
“Mr. Frozenborn, do skeletons usually hit light bullets like that?”
“No. I think it will be difficult to deal with light bullets used as a stockpile.”
“Then can I assume that you are using the power of a necromancer?”
“Hmm. I made a mistake. I put more energy than when I was fighting student Cymus.”
The skeleton backed away and moved to the center. Enild said as Carter was thinking about how to handle the current situation.
“Then let’s go straight to the skeleton set.”
“All right.”
Unknowingly unable to keep up with the next step, Carter was back in the center. The three skeletons in front of him were holding swords, spears, and shields. As the skeleton grew, the pressure he felt intensified.
‘The second year juniors have to fight three skeletons for performance evaluation?’
When Carter was feeling pity for his juniors, Housen stood between Carter and the skeletons again, raising and lowering his arms wide and shouting.
“Start evaluation!”
Again, Carter started by pulling back. And since the skeleton holding the sword was a little scary and the skeleton holding the shield seemed to be able to block it, I shot a light bullet right at the skeleton holding the spear.
-Paaang!
Skeletons hit by the light bullets shattered immediately. Carter, who gained confidence in that appearance, fired a light bullet at the skeleton holding the sword.
-puck!
At that moment, the skeleton holding the shield blocked the light bullet by blocking the skeleton holding the sword. As the two skeletons charged, Carter decided to use stronger magic. Compared to Holy Light Spear and Light Bullet, it requires more concentration time and consumes more mana, but this method was the best to attack two skeletons at once. He completed the spell by dodging and dodging the skeleton’s attacks.
“Go!”
The golden holy light spear flew towards the skeleton. The Holy Light Spear, which flew at a speed comparable to that of a light bullet and with incomparable power, pierced two skeletons at once. Carter saw that and clenched his fists. And I looked at the two teachers with satisfied faces, but their expressions were a little strange.
“Student Carter, shall we go the Necromancer’s way now?”
“yes?”
– Less and less
As Ed said that, he raised the skeleton again. The skeleton that was hit by the light bullet and the two skeletons that were pierced by the starlight spear completed the restoration centered on the core as if nothing was wrong and drove Carter into a corner. Carter was obviously taken aback when he saw that the skeleton he had knocked down rose up without any problems.
“When I was in the North, it was difficult to afford the material cost if the skeleton was completely destroyed. So, the first skill I learned was self-destruction.”
As the skeleton collapses on its own, it is difficult to minimize or nullify the impact on the core or bones, or to hit a wide area attack, but such an attack in the form of launching a projectile can easily be shed through self-destruction. And if the core wasn’t destroyed, the skeleton could easily be restored and moved, so Ed, as a necromancer without money, had reached the state of self-destruction and restoration.
“And most necromancers deal with 20 or more skeletons. You should be able to overcome about three.”
Carter, who came to his senses at Ed’s words, stretched out his hand again and fired the light bullet. Climbing over a pile of skeleton bones to be broken again, Carter ran away. Then, when he turned around and fired a light bullet, another skeleton collapsed, and another skeleton rose from its seat again.
“what’s this…!”
Carter continued to fire light bullets from a corner. The skeleton holding the shield advanced while blocking the attack, while the skeleton holding the sword and the skeleton holding the spear were destroyed and restored repeatedly. Not wanting to be seen as a failure as the student council president, Carter squeezed out all his mana and fired a light bullet. Even if you shoot at what appears to be the core, the skeleton breaks down on its own, causing the attack to miss.
When he ran out of mana, Carter slowly lowered his hand and could only look at the spear and sword aimed at the approaching skeleton.
“Student Carter, normal necromancers can’t do crazy things like that, so don’t be so scared.”
Enild came over and massaged Carter’s shoulder while he was dazed.
“Principal, is that so?”
“That’s right. It’s the first time I’ve seen a necromancer who likes to restore like that.”
Housen also had some comforting words for Carter. But Carter found out that such a necromancer actually existed, so it was hard to just ignore it. Enild asked if he had read Carter’s complex mind.
“You’d need an area attack to deal with something like that. Or it wouldn’t be bad to fire multiple light bullets at once in the form of shotguns so that you can definitely target the core. Or you can speed up the flying speed of the starlight spear so that the skeleton breaks faster. Or penetrate faster.”
Carter nodded, taking Enild’s teachings to heart. At that time, Ed said with a slightly strange face.
“Principal, isn’t that something Miss Carter has to figure out for herself in my class?”
“The student is very surprised. Shouldn’t we calm him down first?”
When Enild glared at Ed with brown eyes, Ed shrank slightly.
“ah.”
“Even Carter would have figured out that much when he came to his senses. If you experience that in the second semester of your sophomore year, you will definitely have something you want to learn in your junior year.”
Housen was rather satisfied to see Carter, who had enough skills as the student council president, go crazy with three skeletons. The real battle would be even scarier. Thinking that this experience would certainly be helpful, Housen had not discarded Professor Glodia’s syllabus at all.
“So you passed?”
“First of all, you’ll need to adjust the skeleton’s dynamics a bit. Starting today, adjust it appropriately with Department Head Kyu.”
Enild thought his choice of not firing the starlight spear at the necromancer yesterday was correct.
It seemed that the necromancer who came to Setin would make a difference.
