Chapter 57: Chapter Fifty-Seven: A New Sovereign
The Rift fell silent, its chaotic storms fading as if recognizing its new master. The space around Caden no longer twisted uncontrollably but instead flowed with his presence, bending to his will.
Seraphis floated nearby, watching cautiously. "You did it…" she murmured, gripping her weapons tightly. "Varian is gone."
Caden exhaled slowly, feeling the weight of his actions settle. His Ring of Equilibrium had vanished, but in its place—he had become the balance itself.
The Rift pulsed, as if awaiting his command.
[Rift Authority Acquired]
The Rift no longer acts against you.
Chaos and Order exist in perfect equilibrium within your presence.
You may now impose stability or destruction at will.
Caden's All-Knowing Eye flickered, scanning himself.
His body had changed. No longer fully human, yet not entirely a being of the Rift either. Something in-between.
Seraphis finally lowered her weapons, stepping closer. "So… what now?"
Caden stared at the vast expanse of the Rift, feeling its energy move around him.
He had won.
But deep in his soul—he knew this was not the end.
BOOM!
A sudden shockwave tore through the Rift, and Caden's instincts screamed. Something was wrong.
Seraphis's eyes widened. "That wasn't you, was it?"
Caden turned toward the disturbance—and his heart stopped.
A massive crimson crack had formed at the heart of the Rift, pulsing ominously. It was unlike anything he had felt before—not chaotic, not stable… but something else entirely.
Something older.
The Rift shuddered, and from within the crack, a voice echoed.
"Impressive, Sovereign… But the Rift is only a doorway. The true struggle has yet to begin."
Caden's fists clenched. "…Who are you?"
The voice chuckled softly.
"A watcher. A keeper. A prisoner. But soon… I will be free."
The crimson crack pulsed, and the Rift trembled, as if in fear.
Seraphis cursed. "Tell me that's not what I think it is."
Caden's eyes darkened. "It's worse."
The Rift was no longer the greatest threat.
Something far beyond it had been waiting all along.
And now—it was waking up.
