The Elemental Relics

Volume 1 Chapter 3

Ali sat up due to gnawing hunger pangs. He realized that he skipped all his meals the previous day due to the stranger. With some urgency, the teenager climbed the cliffside. This time, he scanned the surroundings before he stepped onto the plateau. Neither Paul’s nor the stranger’s corpses were where he left them. Only the ground dyed a dark brown was proof that he wasn’t imagining the encounter in his sleep.

I hope they disposed of the stranger’s corpse before anyone finds out.

When Ali approached the village, he stopped to listen. During the morning, the place would be bustling with activity as the villagers went about their day with their daily routines. Instead, he was only greeted by a tranquility that only existed late at night. The teenager circled around the outside of the village but he found no signs of anyone. He cautiously entered the village only to find that most of the village center courtyard was dyed the same dark brown shade as the cliff.

Did they kill everyone?

After he checked every hut, Ali’s worst fear was confirmed. Unless he came across any survivors in the next week or so, he might be the last survivor member on the formation. His growling stomach reminded him of his priority so Ali went through all the huts to gather all the available food. Knowing better to indulge himself, the teenager stored the food at various locations so he could ration himself. As for how he would acquire food afterwards, that was a problem for the future him. After a quick bite to satisfy his stomach, Ali could focus on more important matters.

For now, I need to better understand my special powers.

An hour later, Ali returned to his cave with enough food to last him three meals. With his basic necessities resolved for the immediate short term, he could resume where he left off.

I wish to continue with the tutorial.

You are currently level 1. You must discover the ways to level up on your own. There are many ways to do so and some may not be obvious. With each level up, you gain 5 stat points which you can distribute however you want to. In addition, you gain an ability slot which allows you to learn a new ability. Leveling up is the fastest way for an individual to grow stronger.

Your HP stat indicates your lifeforce. When your HP hits zero, you are dead. Meanwhile, your MP stat determines the quantity and quality of the abilities you can use. Generally, stronger abilities require more MP per use. When your MP drops to zero, abilities with mana cost are no longer accessible until you regenerate some MP.

High strength increases the damage of your abilities. Constitution increases your HP while intelligence increases your MP. HP regen is tied to your survival and MP regen is proportional to your wisdom. You may put your stat points however you want but it is recommended for you to distribute the points that play to the strength of your element and/or best aid the abilities you have.

Next, we will discuss abilities.

For every level you gain, you may select an ability to add to your arsenal. You start with a choice between two abilities and more options are unlocked as you level up. The types of abilities depend heavily on the element of your relic but luck may play a role in the rarity of the ability you get.

Due to your special circumstance, you had to pick an attacking ability. Once an ability is picked, you cannot undo the process. In addition, there is a chance an ability you have seen before may no longer stay available once it is skipped. Therefore, please pick your abilities carefully. Below is more information on your ability.

]

Each of your ability has a level and using the ability often can level it up, unlocking stronger versions of the ability. The way to level up an ability depends on the “Level Up Requirement.” The requirements will vary depending on the type of ability.

There are three types of abilities: attacking, defensive and support. Each of these types have subtypes. Air slash has the attacking type and blade subtype. Each subtype has its own strengths and weaknesses. More information will be provided on this topic at a later date.

The description generally provides information on how to use the ability. Cost refers to MP cost, though some abilities may have HP cost instead. Cooldown determines if you have to wait between uses. Attacking abilities have damage values while defensive abilities have defense values.

That concludes our tutorial. You may access your character stats and ability information whenever you want. When you unlock something new, the prompt may provide an update to you. Thank you for completing the tutorial! You have earned a reward for completion.

( Yes / No )

That’s a no brainer!

Ali was about to select yes when a sound caught his attention. He crawled over to the cave mouth and pressed himself against the wall. His suspicion was confirmed when an airship flew past the cave to the top.

Who or what are they after?

The teenager thought about the situation briefly before he decided to stay in his cave. Without knowing the intention of those aboard the airship, wandering out to the village could cost him his life. Ali was feeling smug when he found himself staring at a fierce looking creature baring its fangs. He raised his hand to use his ability when someone else appeared beside the creature.

“I wouldn’t try that if I were you. Alpha can strike faster than you can cast an ability.”
