Chapter 27
[No. 058: Magical Torture 48% → 62%]
[In Progress]
As I looked at the letters in the status window, the trauma I wanted to bury in my memories began to creep back up.
“There were a few times when Acella completely lost it and rampaged like a demon.”
In the latter part, there were moments when Acella transformed into a mindless monster, incomprehensible and erratic.
It was kind of like a hidden boss event.
This ending involved being captured by the hidden-boss Acella and tortured to death by magic.
“Are you telling me the Empress is increasing the probability of this ending?”
I couldn’t help but furrow my brows.
The reason for the higher bad ending probability.
From now on, Acella would have a negative experience that would lead to that cause.
“There’s only one thing I should do in situations like this.”
I would simply do the opposite of that.
“Lucy, big sister.”
“Geez, Teacher?”
As I grabbed the arm of the head maid who was moving away, she breathed a sigh of relief as if she had encountered a monster.
She was way too on guard.
“What does it mean to go to the workshop?”
“Um, it’s better to talk outside first…”
“I can’t go until I hear an explanation.”
“Ugh, geez…!”
The head maid bit her lip in frustration.
She quickly leaned closer and whispered in my ear.
“There’s a magic workshop for the Empress in the underground of Moonlight Palace. When the Royal Princess doesn’t study properly, she gets special training there. We should get out of here right away…”
“Are you saying there will be magical discipline?”
“Um, that…”
The head maid trailed off, unable to answer my question.
I had pieced together what was going on.
Empress Camilla was quite knowledgeable about magic.
She was at least a level 5 wizard.
Her magical discipline, though.
“That sounds rather painful.”
Still, depending on the type of magic, it wouldn’t leave any marks on the body.
Lost in thought for a moment, Camilla called out to us in a glass-like voice.
“Healer, did you not hear me? Leave the room.”
“My title is Teacher, but it seems you haven’t heard,” I replied, stepping forward, making the Empress’s face wrinkle in surprise.
“What did you just say?”
“If you plan to punish the Royal Princess with magic, I must intervene. As her attending physician, I need to pay attention to the health of my patient.”
At my words, Acella’s pupils widened.
Her trembling eyes stared directly at me.
“Ha, the healer is finally crossing the line.”
The Empress scoffed, mocking me.
“Punishment? This is about educating the Third Royal Princess. You, this is the Imperial Family. Know your place.”
“If the patient is injured, it follows that my responsibilities as attending physician would increase. It’s clearly within my job scope.”
“Then fix her when that happens. If you don’t want to disgrace your family’s name, sit quietly. You’re just some outsider from a political manipulation.”
“Wow, me?”
“Prince Gothberg, when you committed blasphemy against the Marquis family, I let it slide for the Marquis’s sake. And I was merciful when you wasted the Holy Grail.”
“Yes. I overlooked the Empress’s claims thanks to my father. I graciously accepted the Holy Grail as well.”
“This little brat to the very end…!”
The Empress blushed scarlet, like a train engine full of coal.
“There’s only one reason I haven’t dealt with you. Wasting my time with a fool with nothing in his head is my loss! But this time, you’ve crossed the line.”
“More is better?”
“Acella will be raised my way. Right now, you’ve stepped into the Imperial Family’s affairs without qualification!”
“That’s because I’m betrothed.”
At my response, Acella’s eyes widened again.
“This…!”
The Empress gritted her teeth as she glared at me.
“How dare you retort like that!”
“Then could you let me know what kind of education the Royal Princess will receive? Depending on the content, I might allow that special lesson.”
“Are you telling me to get approval from a mere healer for my actions as the Empress and mother of Acella?”
Thud.
I stepped closer to the Empress and said, “I’m not just a mere healer; I’m the attending physician appointed by the Royal Princess herself. Attach the title of doctor to my name, please. I’m a vassal of the heir and a part of Acella’s faction.”
Upon hearing my logically articulated sentences, the Empress’s momentum began to wane.
“It’s necessary since you are an outsider who could potentially harm the Royal Princess’s body with malicious intent, Your Majesty.”
“Are you referring to me, Acella’s biological mother, as an outsider?”
“Isn’t it true? Just because we are parents and siblings, that doesn’t make any of you allies. My only lord is the Royal Princess.”
The Empress seemed to have reached her limit of patience with my assertions and unconsciously began to emit mana.
A sinister black aura.
“Everyone else, leave.”
The Empress commanded in a chilling voice, as if she was about to drop the guillotine’s blade at any moment.
Tanya blocked my way.
“My job is to guard the teacher…”
“It’s fine. Just go outside.”
As the direct descendant of Gothberg, I could handle it, but Tanya could get into trouble if the Empress accused her of heresy.
I nodded to a hesitant Tanya once more, and she exited.
Bang.
The door closed, leaving only Camilla, Acella, and me in the room.
“You were curious about the special training content,”
Camilla said, waving her hand to create a magic circle.
Four intricately shaped figures intersected, greedily sucking up the black mana.
Formulas engraved around the edges indicated that the casting preparation was complete.
“Mother.”
Silent until now, Acella finally spoke.
However, the Royal Princess seemed completely focused on the magic, as if her words never reached her ears.
“Experience it yourself. You can feel how it might harm Acella with your own body, can’t you?”
Snap. Camilla snapped her fingers, and the spell was cast.
Boom!
At the same time, a powerful weight seemed to drop on my entire body, like a pile of rocks.
“Ugh.”
It was the gravity manipulation spell of level 4.
The gravity in the spot where I stood increased several times.
The pressure was so intense, I could hardly stand. My body was being pulled down towards the ground.
“How’s that? It’s not a spell that leaves wounds or hurts the body. It’s crucial education for Acella to experience the power of magic. Do you understand?”
The Empress sneered, snapping her fingers.
—Kugugugu!
The magic circle grew larger, intensifying the power.
…I could barely breathe now.
The heavy air made it hard to move my lungs.
My waist bent, and my arms fell.
‘Great.’
Is she really thinking of this kind of punishment as education?
This is nothing more than torture.
I thought I might collapse any moment now.
My upper body had already hunched over like a hedgehog.
But somehow, my legs held strong.
“You’re managing not to kneel.”
Acella’s sadistic nature was clearly taking after the Empress.
Camilla was always annoying and increased the bad ending probability.
I had no intention of showing the image this Empress wanted.
With great effort, I forced my lips into a smile, revealing my teeth.
“My knees are only for my lord.”
The Empress’s eyes sharpened even more.
Hmm, I’ve seen that gaze somewhere before.
Suddenly, memories flashed through my mind like a carousel.
—You really don’t kneel, healer of the Hero Party.
Acella, with a devil-like expression, laughed.
That expression had been seen countless times in the last scene from ten years of repeated cycles.
The Empress’s face blended with that of the golden witch.
My vision flickered like noise.
With the intensified gravity, blood couldn’t circulate to my brain, and I felt a blackout coming.
Was that just a fantasy just before losing consciousness?
Or was it a depiction conjured by my brain, sensing something?
A face I didn’t want to recall appeared.
—How dare you lay hands on a gift dedicated to the Emperor of the Empire?
In Emperor Acella’s tone, there was an unmistakable confidence and majesty.
It felt quite different from the current timid tones.
‘Thinking back, she resembles Camilla quite a lot.’
Of course, parents and children share similarities.
Her talent in magic, genetics determined much from appearance to physical ability and even mental tendencies.
But of course, one couldn’t overlook the environment either.
I instinctively realized that Camilla had a significant influence in Acella becoming the mad wicked woman she was.
‘Why is this suddenly coming up now?’
My thoughts refused to flow.
—Isn’t it beautiful? The day the curse ends.
The curse.
Acella often spoke that word.
Though I had no idea what she was thinking.
“Let’s see you endure this.”
Just as the Empress raised her arm to add another magic circle.
—Pierce!
A golden magic circle penetrated her magic.
It was a spell interruption spell.
“Huh.”
I awkwardly caught my breath and clutched my chest.
Looking up, I saw Acella reaching out toward Camilla.
Golden mana rippled from her small hand.
“…Acella?”
The Empress wore a blank expression, as if she couldn’t comprehend what was happening.
“What are you doing right now?”
Acella replied, her eyes blazing with determination as she faced Camilla.
“Take your hands off of my belongings.”
It was a tone I’d heard before.
The voice of Acella that pierced through the frozen lake, one I could only hear when she was furious.
“Now.”
