Chapter 6: Divine Wizard
"Where should I drop you?"
The middle-aged woman at the wheel asked Zane.
An hour earlier, Vanessa Hudson had been on her way to work. She'd driven about ten blocks from her house when she spotted a young man waving for her to stop.
At first, Vanessa thought he might be a beggar, but upon closer inspection, she realized he was wearing decent clothes and didn't look homeless. Besides, what would a beggar be doing in this neighborhood? Security wouldn't allow it.
She'd stopped to listen to what the young man had to say.
He explained how he'd attended a party with friends who had left him stranded on the streets after an argument. The poor guy was really unlucky.
The teenager had introduced himself as Zane and asked if she could give him a ride to the city center.
The boy appeared to be around twenty and had a strikingly attractive face. When he looked at her with those deep azure eyes, she couldn't bring herself to refuse. His eyes were mesmerizing, the kind that could drown anyone who looked into them.
Zane didn't know the name of a single location in Nexus City, so when Vanessa asked where she should drop him, he was left speechless. How could he reply?
Earlier that morning, Zane had roamed the neighborhood, killing time before people woke up. His plan was to find someone willing to take him to the city's heart.
Most people had simply ignored him, while others listened but refused to go to the city. they looked at him in suspicious manner while claiming to be heading outside the city.
Zane had watched early morning joggers pass by and witnessed the early risers heading to work. He'd alternated between flagging down cars, wandering the neighborhood, and sitting on cold lawns.
It was 6 AM when he finally got lucky and secured a ride. It definitely wasn't as easy as he'd thought.
He'd even considered coming up with a different story, since the one he was using clearly wasn't working well. Zane had nearly given up when this lady finally believed his fabricated tale.
"Drop me off on that street,"
Zane said, pointing to a nearly empty street to the side. Unlike the other heavily congested streets in the city, this one had only two people walking along it. Zane had spotted the words 'City Park' on a sign post.
People were engaged in various activities on the well-trimmed green grass in the large space between the sprawling towers.
Who attends parks at morning. I'd rather sleep.
Vanessa parked the car at a nearby spot. Zane felt genuinely grateful to this woman, especially since other people had refused to help him and simply passed him by.
Zane opened the car door and stepped out onto foreign territory.
"Thank you, Vanessa. I really appreciate your kindness."
Zane said while closing the door. He didn't know if they would ever meet again, so he wanted to express his gratitude properly.
"It wasn't anything big, don't worry about it. I was heading this way anyway. Hope you stay safe."
Vanessa replied, putting on dark sunglasses.
"Actually, you seem like a friendly guy, and I kind of like you. Here's my card, if you ever get 'stranded' again, don't hesitate to call me."
Vanessa said, pulling a dark purple business card from her purse and handing it to Zane. He accepted it graciously.
As he inspected the card, the window slid up and the wheels began to roll. Zane watched as the red sedan sped away. Just like that, Vanessa vanished from sight.
Zane looked around, then checked the brass watch on his wrist. It was 7 AM. Time to make money.
Zane had to be back in Ashburn before evening, which meant he needed to earn money for transportation. Fortunately, he had the system.
What better way to earn money than having a system called the Super Trading System?
Zane thought as he summoned the panel.
『Currency Exchange』
1 Super Point = 100 Supreme Coins
Zane could convert these into dollars, but he'd forgotten his wallet at home the previous day. The system required a bank account to transfer funds, so Zane could only buy goods directly and sell them for cash.
Luckily, he could purchase anything from the system shop.
『You have successfully exchanged 1 Super Point for 100 Supreme Coins.』
『Balance』
✦ 49 Super Points
✦ 100 Supreme Coins
Zane exchanged only one Super Point. He had a feeling Super Points were extremely important.
Super points couldn't be exchanged like Supreme Coins, and Zane didn't know how to acquire more yet. The system had mentioned they could only be obtained by advancing toward becoming a "Divine Trader."
Zane was intensely curious about what this Divine Trader was, but the system had restricted this information. He could only speculate about its meaning.
It definitely had something to do with trading. Zane was ready to experiment.
Previously, the system had told him about the shop tab. He could order any item within the realms of possibility, provided he had enough money. He'd had no money then, so he couldn't experiment.
Zane summoned the shop tab.
『Online Trading Market』
✧Search
Zane didn't know the limits of what he could order, so he decided to test them.
He mentally requested an authentic, sealed ten-dollar bill. If he could buy money at a much cheaper price and use it, wouldn't he have a superb income cycle and never need to work again?
[You cannot buy currency. A Divine Trader conducts trading to earn money. It wouldn't be appropriate for you to purchase currencies.]
Zane had expected as much, but did it have to mention the Divine Trader again?
What even is a Divine Trader?
Zane decided to keep it simple and ordered one gram of gold. Gold was considered currency on Earth, but perhaps the system would allow it. After all its a mineral.
『Item Price』
✦ Gold [1 gram] - 10 Supreme Coins
It was about five times more expensive than the current price of gold on Earth.
Is gold that expensive in the universe? Too bad the system doesn't buy items from me.
Zane could have brought gold from earth and sell it to the system. He could only look for other market.
Zane's mind wandered to the future. He would have to find a market in one of the realms where gold was expensive, then buy it on Earth and exchange it there.
The only thing that worried Zane was whether he could find useful items to sell on Earth from those realms. He could only wait and see what sort of worlds these realms were.
After testing a few more times, Zane realized he had to be specific down to the smallest detail. For example, he couldn't order a mobile phone no matter how hard he tried, even though he knew the specifications of some smartphones inside and out.
Turns out knowledge of RAM and battery capacity isn't really helpful.
Zane had already figured out how he was going to make money.
Zane scanned his surroundings until his gaze landed on what he was looking for. He needed somewhere without people and surveillance to use the Inventory Grimoire. Apparently, items he bought ended up stored there.
Zane headed toward the structure, passing through areas where children played and adults rested. Just normal park activity. He entered the restroom building at the northeastern corner of the park.
There weren't many people inside. He entered the men's section and headed to the furthest stall at the very end. Luckily, it was empty.
Zane had to think of the item he wanted to buy and visualize it in his mind, considering every tiny detail. The system would then give him a price, and he'd be able to purchase it. The item would then appear in the grimoire.
Fortunately, Zane was a natural-born artist, though he preferred calling himself a connoisseur.
He sometimes came up with ideas for drawings, but they took too much time and he was usually too lazy to invest the effort.
However, he had observed many paintings online and had even thought of designs.
He was also inspired by the detailed drawings of items in the Inventory Grimoire that came to life when he stared at its pages.
Zane had decided he was going to buy custom made paintings from the system. So long as he thought of its appearance the system could sell it to him.
He immediately thought of Nexus City. The beautiful green of Nexus City Park, together with its bustling environment, occupied most of the canvas he visualized. Chrome towers hung in the sky behind, and at the center of the towers—much taller and more spectacular—was the Vance Spire. Three crimson claws grazed its heights.
The dark blue night sky glimmered with twinkling stars. Zane carved the uppermost left corner with a blue glowing moon embedded in the heavens.
Zane then thought of the painting's dimensions. To top it off, he imagined it being old, like something out of a museum. He then added random signatures at the bottom right.
Finally, Zane imagined a wooden frame around the canvas, just like the portraits he'd seen. He then mentally commanded the system to initiate a transaction with the image he'd conceived.
Zane's mental focus had increased ever since his Mentality attribute had risen to 17. He could now visualize at a higher level than before. The image he'd thought of was burned into his mind, and his memory had apparently improved as well.
『Item Price』
✦ Custom-made Realistic Painting - 1 Supreme Coin
Zane had expected this much. The system didn't price items based on use or utility. It priced them according to production cost. The painting only required canvas, frame, paints, and materials.
If Zane bought these items as a painter, it would cost less than $100. One Supreme Coin equaled $100. The system didn't use decimals, so it rounded up prices to the nearest Supreme Coin. Hence, the painting that was supposedly, worth more than $200 was only sold to him for 1 Supreme Coin.
It real sense it costed less than 1 supreme coin. Zane was actually being exploited by the system, though he didn't mind. The painting created was magnificent and highly realistic. Whoever bought it would spend at least $200, and with luck, it could sell for an even higher price.
Zane couldn't mass-produce items, the system only gave him one item per order. So he had to go through the process again and again until he'd made nine different paintings. His inventory was full then.
Zane was now the fastest artist to exist in history.
Who can create spectacular paintings as fast as me?
Zane couldn't help but ask himself as he summoned the Inventory Grimoire. A pressure of heaviness descended on the room with its appearance.
Zane removed the paintings that were painted upon the book's pages. Soon enough, all nine paintings were resting inside a black leather bag he'd also removed from the Inventory Grimoire.
After thirty minutes of wizardry in the restroom stall, Zane emerged with a bag full of merchandise. His first factory had been in a restroom.
Maybe I should call myself a Divine Wizard or Conjurer.
Was this what it meant to be a Divine Trader?
Zane asked himself while exiting the restroom. He was ready to trade.
