The Difference Is Like Between a Dog and a Cow

chapter 22

22 – Going Out (1)

It was a bright day.

Rumia, who poured out all the tears she had been holding back, returned before lights out, but I, still suffering from insomnia, managed to fall asleep at around 4:00 in the morning.

“Pam~PamPamPa~PamPamParaPamParaPamPam~~!”

And the weather trumpet went off at 7:00 without fail.

I had no choice but to get out of the miraculous barracks almost half-zombie.

“Ahhhhh… ….”

“Good morning, Platoon Commander.”

“Good morning, Sergeant Bell.”

As we head towards the wide parade ground, Bell Mayer greets us as he finishes his preparations and comes out.

“You look especially tired today.”

“It’s nothing special. You don’t have to worry. And is Sergeant Claude out today?”

“Of course. I was sleeping with my nose snoring.”

Actually, Sergeant Claude had already given up halfway. What can I do about a nobleman who has left the battalion commander and company commander anyway?

In addition, in the last battle, I was able to confirm the strength of Sergeant Claude, albeit fragmentarily.

It wasn’t that the combat power level was 90 for nothing. Like speed, attack sense, strength, magic. Because it was superior in every way.

That is.

It means that he is a nobleman who will take care of himself even if he is left alone.

“By the way, where did Lumia go?”

“I’ll be out now. But what the hell did you talk about yesterday, the kid came in crying all over?”

“Ummm… ….”

I couldn’t bear to answer. It’s kind of hard to say it again with my own mouth…… I’m ashamed.

“I just comforted you.”

“You’re not flirting, are you?”

“No, what do you mean? It will never happen.”

“Quack.”

Bell Meyer let out a mischievous laugh. The slightly curved corners of her eyes are alluring. It’s not me that really attracts people, but it’s this side.

“I’m sorry, Platoon Commander. I am late.”

Since we were just talking, Rumia joined us just in time. Drops of water are dripping from her still undried hair.

“Sergeant Lumia? Is her face swollen?”

“…… I didn’t pour it.”

As expected, as soon as Rumia arrived, Bell Mayer started a prank like a ghost, and Rumia tried to look away from her and denied it.

Of course, it was true that her face was swollen even when I looked at it.

‘It’s a shame because the two of them are close. If even the two of them were completely ruined, there wouldn’t have been a real answer.’

With a new thought, I reported the number of people gathered to the company commander.

“Five members, two outliers, one outfielder medical corps, and one stand-by.”

“…… Whoa, I get it. Wait a minute.”

Commander Arendt sighed heavily after hearing my report.

One hundred percent must be because of Sergeant Claude.

Still an FM, he didn’t like Sergeant Claude very much, but at the same time he deeply understood that he, a war hero, had been driven to such an extent.

Did you say that you grew up listening to Sergeant Claude’s heroic stories?

I met the hero I once longed for as a member of a completely decommissioned unit, so the two of them could be seen as having a very strange relationship.

“There is nothing wrong with the personnel of Company 2.”

“Okay. Did everyone sleep well?”

Standing on the podium, Lt. Col. Lockhart said.

As a battalion commander, he usually lives in a mansion outside the base, so he didn’t show up at the roll call, but today, as it was a day off, he seemed to be specially present.

“Today is a day off after the operation, so all unit members can rest well! Rest is always important.”

“Yes, I understand-!!”

“Then disband!”

Since it was a mage battalion, it was essential for mages, whose bodies themselves were weapons, to take a break, unlike other classes in which weapons and equipment had to be checked once deployed.

If you look closely, this can be seen as ‘maintenance’.

But just because it’s a holiday doesn’t mean you can’t just play. I was thinking of going to town once today.

It was because, as long as it was a holiday, light outing itself was guaranteed freely.

As soon as the roll call ended, the gathered people scattered, and Belle and Rumia came up to me and asked.

“Platoon commander, what is your schedule today?”

“Oh, I… ….”

Wait a minute.

Isn’t this the first time I’ve been outside the base?

It’s been this unit since I first entered Haojie.

Then I guess we’ll need a guide.

“I’m thinking of going downtown. The 3rd platoon commander told me last time that it’s not a bad city to visit once.”

“Uh, are you going to Cherno?”

“Yes, it is.”

Cherno City.

It was one of the few trading cities in northeastern Ukraine and geographically the closest to the border.

It was also a fortified city that served as the first line of defense for the Principality of Ukraine in case the border fortresses were captured or a large-scale all-out war broke out, as was the case last time.

“But I don’t know the geography here, so would you like to accompany me?”

“I like it!! It’s too boring to be in the unit all the time.”

Bell Meyer replied with a big smile. She was already excited.

In contrast to that, Rumia noticed that she was slightly hesitant about something.

“What would Sergeant Lumia do?”

“Ah…… I am.”

It also feels a bit restless. What? I didn’t look like I was in a very good condition today.

“I will just rest today.”

“Okay. Come to think of it, you still need some stability.”

The treatment was completed safely, and even the wounds were completely healed by the recovery magic, but the aftereffects of being shot by her gun would still linger.

“Sorry, I forgot.”

“Ah! No! No! Platoon commander, there is no need to apologize…… Wow! That, then I’m done!”

She couldn’t meet her gaze with me until the end, and hurriedly turned around and disappeared. Are you still thinking about what happened last night?

She doesn’t have to feel sorry for showing weakness.

However, even that is ultimately up to the individual.

I just need to help her as her platoon leader.

“Then Sergeant Bell, let’s start preparing for the outing. I’ll be waiting for you here at 8:00 a little later.”

“Yes, I checked~!”

Bell answered in a soft voice and followed Rumia with her gun-like strides.

Well, Sergeant Claude, you’re not the type to ask why you didn’t ask him.

You don’t have to ask me to go with you.

Rather, he asked why he was going there, and it was fortunate that he didn’t curse at me.

Rather than worrying about getting scolded for asking, it would be much more comfortable and better for her to just go out with Bell.

“Now…… Then I should prepare quickly!!”

A first outing in the world of Hearts of General. For some reason, it felt like her heart was pounding and jumping.

***

“Then why are you wearing a military uniform?”

“Coming to think of it, I didn’t have any civilian clothes except for those everyday clothes.”

“Eh, no way!”

“It’s true.”

It was a problem I hadn’t thought of before.

I don’t know what kind of body I was before I became possessed.

This bastard had none of the clothes she had, except for the ones supplied by the military.

Until now, I couldn’t think of going anywhere, and I didn’t feel particularly uncomfortable because I was busy organizing paperwork and studying magic, but…….

Since I have to go out more often, I needed to purchase clothes separately.

“Then we should go shopping together. Okay, leave it to me.”

Bell Meyer said confidently. Certainly, she seemed to have a knack for fashion as much as she was confident.

The black skirt with the white blouse tucked in, and the tailored jacket worn over it matched quite well.

Her hair is also black, and wearing it to match that color makes her look very neat and mature.

Of course, such maturity is also due to her ‘physical features’.

“Ever since then, my hobby is shopping. There is a store I have known about in advance, so I will guide you there.”

“If you do, thank you.”

“Then let’s go!!”

As Bell Meyer and I boarded, the driver on top of her carriage shouted.

In the first place, public transportation such as buses and taxis do not even exist. Because I can’t even walk.

The coachmen belonging to the city hall are always on standby at the unit, just like modern taxis.

After hearing that we had just returned from an operation, the front gate of the unit was lined with wagons from the city.

It occurred to me that there is nothing special about living in this place or in reality.

“By the way, what city is the platoon commander from?”

“Ah…… You mean that?”

Bell Meyer’s sharp question came in suddenly. Even in the status window, my origin was not written.

I had no choice but to gloss over it as ‘Kayaf’, the capital of Ukraine.

Even in Korea, when I was asked where I was from, if I answered that I was from Seoul, there were usually no additional questions.

“Oh! Kayap!! You really were a city man.”

Cook-Cook.

Bell Meyer stabbed her in the side as she tuned in. Fortunately, as I thought, she didn’t take it seriously when she said that she was from the capital.

I’m glad it’s surprisingly simple.

“But why did you suddenly want to leave the city? Are you just frustrated?”

“There is that, and I was thinking of learning the surrounding geography. And I want to see the furniture as much as possible.”

In fact, the residence, the official residence, was as if I was renting out the entire building.

As for the other rooms, they were all dusty and empty.

So I thought, if I’m not going to use it anyway, I’ll decorate it.

In the first place, the battalion commander put a lot of emphasis on aesthetics, and it seemed that there would be no problem if only the interior was kept clean.

If you ask me to leave the room, that’s because that’s when it happened.

“Umm…… Kagura. When it comes to interiors, Rumia looks good.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes, Lumia also decorated our dorm. When I was first assigned, I really thought it was some kind of prison.”

Definitely.

Unlike the beautifully decorated ground floor, the basement was completely unmaintained.

Nevertheless, the accommodations of the 5th platoon members were fairly decent.

A sofa, a fireplace, and an air purifier that must have been quite expensive.

There were no windows due to the nature of the basement, but should I say that it is more cozy? It felt like an underground hideout, so it was pretty good than I thought.

“It was Lumia who decorated the battalion commander’s room.”

“Ooh.”

If our mustachioed lieutenant colonel, who dies in design and lives in design, will admit it, I don’t have to say anything more.

“In the end, I think I will have to come back with Lumia Jungsa next time.”

“Because I have a lot of time.”

Aside from that, as we chatted about this and that, before we knew it, a gray wall appeared beyond the grove of trees.

“Oh, I can see it soon.”

Bell Meyer said, pointing her finger at the towering spire.

“This is the largest trading city in northeastern Ukraine, and the supply base for our battalion.”

It was Cherno City.
