Chapter 10: Chapter 9
Chapter 9
During their school break, the girls sat down to get to know their newest group member.
Tamara: "Hi Maya, my name's Tamara" Points to Julia "This is Julia and…" points to Aliyah "...and this is Aliyah, our group's president"
Aliyah: "So, Maya can you tell us more about yourself? Who are you outside of school? Why do you want to be friends with us? Will hanging out with us affect your grades? How are your grades? What times can you hangout and till what time can you stay? You know! Stuffs like that.
Maya: Coming here and joining this group, I didn't know that there would be questions like this to answer. I thought we were just going to be friends and that was it. But nevertheless, the questions were understandable and reasonable, so I took a deep breath and said "Hi my name is Amaya Scatts, but I am known as Maya Scatts and I actually prefer to be called Maya. I am in the science department 🏬, the same as you guys, because I want to become an Architect. Hmmmm, I don't really do anything else outside of school than sleep 😴 and study" By saying this, I caused a light chuckle between the girls, the chuckle lasted a while, but then I continued "Truthfully, I chose to with you because I have always wanted to be in a girl's group where there is competition or hatred, just immense support and love and I think that you guys are THAT for each other. And I saw all that support and love, through the way you guys support each other in presentations when someone has a problem, how you support each other during exam period, during moments of embarrassment in class within our peers, so one and so forth. You guys make having friends or wanting to have friends really surprising and promising. About my grades, we all know that my grades are top-notch so I don't think you should worry about that. And, with the way we act towards each other in this group I don't think my grades will be affected. Concerning my hangout curfew and estimations, it all depends on how my parents are feeling at that day or time" the girls chuckle again.
Aliyah: "You are so funny Maya, it's hilarious and it is going to be hilarious to have you around" Laughs hysterically "Ohhhh, well then, welcome to The Panthers of A Summer well Lived group, because you are officially one of us. So, as you've said before, WE are a girl group of support but we are more than just supporting...we are also goal getters!"
Tamara: "One of our rituals is that every season, we set series of goals for ourselves that we always try to accomplish by the end of the season and this season we have planned to have a summer well lived, because it is our last summer being minors"
Julia: Looks at Maya deep in the eyes and says "So are you ready to set goals for yourself this summer and accomplish them, making it a summer well lived? Or are you wanting to have a regular summer?"
Maya: First of all, I was surprised about how reasonable the questions they were asking were, but the fact that they even had rituals, and not just any ritual, a potentially useful one, made Maya feel like she had found the friend group of her dreams and she was even more thrilled that their goal was about having the best summer which was her's too, so it was right up her alley. So emotionally, she says "I would never say no to having A Summer well Lived, in fact I had the same goal this summer too, I guess you WE have a lot in common"
Aliyah: "Wow, what a coincidence that you also had the same goal, well then let's make this summer, one of the best ones we've ever had, together" While saying this they shared a mutual smile between all of them.
Maya felt like she was on top of the world 🌍, because she had never thought that she would have the biggest fight between her best friend in the world and then land another friendship that seems better than the first one in her life. She couldn't wait to tell it ALL to her mom, because she knows how much her mum likes gossip and knew that she would be thrilled.
The rest of the school break lasted with the girls getting to know themselves more and finding out that they actually had a lot in common. Tamara's parents were the typical millionaires who always had so many work and traveled a lot and were unable to have a huge connection with their kid, but instead of leaving Tamara live alone, one of the parents stopped working and decided to be a full-time mom and take care of the girl, since she was an only child. Julia's dad is a soldier and always had to move from one place to another, causing him to not be able to be at home for the girls sometimes, Julia had one elder brother, who was a businessman and was also literally never home, so she also lived with her mom.
However, Aliyah's parents were divorced and she is staying with her mom and her siblings were with her dad. And Maya, you and I, reader, both know about Maya's position. So with all this information, the girls had a Lot in common, but the biggest one was that they all stayed with their mom. Which was amazing because they thought it was only right for them if their mom's were friends too. Even though it had its disadvantages, it also had its advantages, which was that they would get to stay together as much as they wanted to and wouldn't have a big curfew.
But they wanted to take things slow and not take things fast, but they made plans of all going to the library later in the evening.
