The Devouring Dragon

Chapter 20: A... Harem?

"Is the issue still not resolved, Ajuka?" Sirzechs sighed, staring at his longtime friend, who also happened to be one of the strongest devils alive and a fellow Maou.

"No," Ajuka answered simply, not looking back at him as his fingers tapped away on a keyboard, the man too engrossed in his 'work' to spare Sirzechs the time of day.

"Ria-tan wants a familiar! What's taking so long?" Sirzechs whined, the Super-devil looking more like a child whose favorite toy was taken away.

"Tiamat is lazy," Ajuka stated as if that explained everything.

"Fine! If she won't deal with it, then I will!" Sirzechs shouted decisively, "I won't make Ria-tan wait any longer!"

"No you won't," Ajuka shot him down instantly, still not looking away from his screen, "It's already hard enough to get Tiamat to do anything. Don't piss her off."

"B-But… Ria-tan…" Sirzechs whined again.

"She can wait a few more weeks," Ajuka shot him down again, "Tiamat will deal with it soon."

"Ah… if you say so…" Sirzechs groaned.

"So… these are the ones?" I asked, looking down at the collection of direwolfs kneeling in front of me.

However, calling them 'dire wolves' was a bit misleading, as all of them looked much more humanoid than wolf-like.

It made sense - I doubt there were any four-legged wolves that Raya would think were worth my attention.

"Yes, Valon," Raya nodded at my words, standing next to my throne.

Yes, my throne. Not that I was arrogant enough to demand a throne, but Raya had made one without my knowledge with Chippy.

So, while I didn't particularly need a throne, who was I to let their work go to waste?

It was large, towering over ten feet into the air, and made primarily of wood. The seat itself was rather plain, with two wooden armrests on the side, and a large back.

But, the back was where Raya had started to get extravagant. The wood gave away, being replaced by large bones stretching out in each direction and hanging over the top of my head.

Apparently, Raya was one for dramatics, as she had said that she included the bones to 'symbolize the hundreds of enemies I had killed' - or something like that.

The throne looked pretty cool, but it also had the side effect of being a bit intimidating - which led to the group of dire wolves in front of me keeping their eyes on the ground, not daring to look up at me.

Not that I could blame them - in their eyes, I had essentially busted into their home, killing literal thousands of their race, then killed the king.

Now, I was sitting on a huge throne, towering over them as I judged them on their worthiness.

I glanced over the group, my attention first going to the strongest one.

[Coudrel] [Dire Wolf Commander] - Level 47

Where was this guy hiding all this time? He was decently strong.

He looked more man than wolf, and he also looked like he hit the gym at least eight times a week. He had bulging muscles, a broad frame, and a snout-ish face.

"Who recommended him?" I asked simply, staring directly at the muscular wolf-man kneeling in front of me.

"That was me, Your Highness," Ragnat answered, the man standing off to the side along with Ragnot, Ragno, and Podo, "This is Coudrel. He has been my sparring partner for my entire life."

I looked down at Coudrel, the man still not looking up to meet my gaze, "...You can be the head trainer. You're now in charge of training our troops."

Coudrel finally looked up, glancing at me for permission to speak.

I barely resisted grinning as he did. I like him already.

"You may speak," I confirmed.

"It's an honor, Your Highness," Coudrel answered gruffly as he grinned sharply, his canines glinting, "I won't let you down."

"I hope not," I answered simply, glancing over at Ragnat, "Good work. While you're here, I have a job for you."

Ragnat nodded appreciatively at my words, then looked at me questioningly.

"We'll be having members from the Dwarven Kingdom nearby soon, and we'll be going to war with the Succubus Queen. You are to be Raya's bodyguard from now on," I ordered.

Ragnat blinked in surprise, opening his mouth at my words, "W-What?! Why should someone like me have to do such a thin-"

He abruptly cut himself off as my eyes narrowed at him, his back stiffening. His lips twitched downwards, but he forced out an agreement, "...yes, Your Highness."

I ignored his displeasure, turning to the next wolf, who was kneeling next to Coudrel.

[Stansen] [Dire Wolf Pack Leader] - Level 12

"Who recommended him?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at the kneeling man. He was a far step below the other wolves in line, being barely past level 10.

He was also surprisingly human-like for his low level, but he also gave off a rather sleazy vibe. His body was long, with long arms and legs, and skinny. He also had a thick layer of fur covering his body, differing from the other wolves who had human-like skin.

As he kneeled before me, his hands were fidgeting, and he glanced around from time to time, as if his mind was elsewhere.

"I did, Your Highness," Podo answered, though he didn't look happy about it, "...He is called Stansen. He was a fellow advisor to the previous king - the one before Ragnar, his father. I… dislike to admit this, as he was the main person who helped Ragnar betray his father, but he is the most intelligent amongst our species."

"I never thought I'd hear you say that, Podo, but I'm glad you know the truth!" Stansen chuckled, the sound high-pitched and mischievous sounding, as he looked up at me, "I was wondering when you'd call for me, Your Highness! I will be far more useful than that old geezer! I was the one who contacted the Blue One for Ragnar, and I was the one who helped him kil-"

In an instant, the throne was empty, and Stansen's head was separated from his body.

He helped Ragnar betray the old king, and he thinks I'll just keep him around?

Once a traitor, always a traitor.

"W-Wha-" Podo gasped behind me, the man taking a step back involuntarily.

He wasn't the only surprised one, as both the kneeling dire wolves, as well as the three princes, stiffened at my sudden murder.

A thick tension filled the air, the kneeling wolves not daring to look up as the princes and Podo stared at me with wide eyes.

At my feet, Stansen's body slumped forward, blood flowing out from his neck and onto the wood below, staining it a light red. He didn't have a moment to react, his words simply dying in his throat as he died instantly.

"I didn't tell him he could speak," I said simply, turning around and leaving the body on the floor as I walked back to my throne.

The room was deathly silent, only my footsteps ringing out until I sat back on the throne again.

I let the room stay silent, not saying anything as I let the fearful silence stretch on for multiple seconds. Then, I glanced over at Ragnat.

"Ragnat," I said simply, but just his name was enough for the dire wolf to stiffen, looking over at me quickly.

"Y-Yes, Your Highness?" He answered hastily, suddenly much more respectful after my display.

"Clean up the body," I ordered.

Ragnat nodded rapidly, apparently no longer concerned about not wanting to do things that he thought were below him. He hurried forward, grabbing the body and dragging it out of the room.

I could've just used [Devour] on it, but I didn't particularly like Ragnat's outburst earlier, and I didn't mind missing out on the few stats someone of Stansen's level would give me.

He was my strongest subordinate, and his decent power was showing as [King's Command] didn't make him completely submissive as it did to his brothers and Podo.

He was a useful fighter to have, so I wasn't keen to kill him just yet, but if he kept having outbursts like that then I would have no choice.

I glanced over to the final three kneeling wolves, blinking as I suddenly recognized a theme.

"...Ragno, Ragnot. Did either of you recommend one of them?" I asked dryly, but I already knew the answer.

"No, Your Highness," Ragno shook his head.

"Me neither, Your Highness," Ragnot agreed.

Yeah, that wasn't very surprising.

The final three dire wolves were all female, and all noticeably weren't very powerful.

[Runa] [Dire Wolf Pack Leader] - Level 17

[Layna] [Dire Wolf Pack Leader] - Level 11

[Shera] [Dire Wolf Pack Leader] - Level 21

"That was me, Valon!" Raya chirped excitedly, stepping forward in front of my throne. She gestured forward to the three women as if she was a saleswomen showing off a product.

"...And why did you bring them?" I asked dryly, though I felt like I already knew. Notably, while all three were women, they were all also nearly entirely human-like and particularly attractive.

"To mate," Raya said as if it was obvious, causing me to nearly choke on my own spit.

"T-To mate?" I echoed, my ruthless king image breaking entirely at her words.

"Of course. You are both the king and the strongest," Raya explained, gesturing at the three women again, "So, I brought the three women I thought would be most suitable for your tastes!"

Well, this was a bit unexpected. I knew that Raya was clearly attracted to me, and we were literally sleeping in the same bed now, so I expected her to take some steps toward getting in my pants.

I was open to letting her make the first move - considering the whole 'kill or be killed' layout of the forest, I wasn't opposed to being aggressive in what I wanted, but Raya was important to me.

She would be my first love in this world, and she held the important position as my Queen. Along with that, she did a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff in running my new kingdom.

I would let her make the first move when she was comfortable with it. I might be a ruthless, massacring, terrifying monster of a man, but I wasn't a complete asshole.

But, while I expected Raya to try and have my kids, I didn't expect her to line up women for me.

"Aren't you the Queen? Isn't that your job?" I deadpanned, causing her face to turn beet-red.

"W-Well… eventually, but…" Raya looked away shyly, rubbing her hands together, "N-Not yet!"

I guess she liked taking things slow.

"A-Anyway! I wasn't sure what you liked specifically, so I got the best of everything!" Raya shouted hastily, gesturing to the three women again. She walked up next to the one on the right.

"T-This is Shera! She had the biggest, ah… lumps that I could find," Raya explained poorly, reaching down and poking her finger unceremoniously into Shera's chest.

True to Raya's words, Shera's chest was rather large. And by 'rather large,' I mean very large. They looked to be around J-Cup, and the woman was all around very attractive.

She had long black hair, a beautiful angular face, and two twin wolf ears on her head. Her body was also curvy, and she had thick hips and long legs.

Overall, I'd say she looked like a black-haired Shizuka Marikawa.

"And this one is Runa!" Raya scooted to the other side, gesturing to the woman on the left, "In case you don't like the, um, lumps on the chest, she has the biggest ones on her butt!"

Raya placed her hand on Runa's shoulder, "T-Turn around, Runa! Show Valon what you have!"

This was starting to turn into a bit of an insane situation.

However, Runa didn't look upset in the slightest at Raya's orders. She spun around, kneeling in the opposite direction as she raised her hips, poking her barely covered ass in my direction.

Despite how insane Raya sounded, she once again wasn't wrong. Runa's ass was large and absurdly thick. It looked bubbly, and I wouldn't mind replacing my pillow with her cheeks. She was also rather beautiful all around - with shoulder-length black hair, a short body, and breasts that were on the small side.

Overall, she didn't look too dissimilar to a black-haired Sayaka Miyata.

"And! In case you like the best of both," Raya stepped to the side, gesturing down to Layna, "She's stacking in both departments!"

True to Raya's words, Layna was stacking in both departments. She was also gorgeous, with large breasts, a thick bottom, long black hair, and a pretty face.

She also looked somewhat familiar, looking kind of like a shorter wolf-version of a girl from this world - Kuroka.

Overall, I have to admit that Raya did a really good job choosing out-mating candidates.

But…

"I know I'm going for the whole 'beast king' thing," I sighed, looking at Raya, "But I'm going to be a better king than Ragnar was. I'm not just going to force random women to mate with me."

I wasn't all that keen on having children right now either - the forest was in a chaotic state, and I was more focused on increasing my own strength than siring children.

Plus, I hadn't even completed the damn tutorial yet!

Raya didn't look happy about it, but her eyes softened at my words and she nodded, "Ah, you're right, Valon. Sorry, girls, you're free to leave if you want to."

"I have no problem with mating with the king," Layna spoke abruptly, apparently sharing more than just looks with Kuroka as she looked up at me with a sensual smirk.

"S-Same here!" Runa shouted, spinning around again so her face was facing me instead of her ass.

"I'm also not opposed. It would be an honor," Shera finished, smirking sensually up at me.

I blinked, staring at the sudden turn of events.

Well, if that's what they want, who am I to say no?
