the demon Prince's accidental bride

Chapter 13: The Queen’s Choice”

Scene: The Door of the Forgotten

At the end of the staircase, they reached a massive black stone door. Carvings of unknown symbols pulsed faintly, as if breathing.

Lucien (softly): "This door leads to the realm of shadow."

Kael (raising a brow): "And you think we should just… open it?"

Mira: "Maybe knock first? Or say 'trick or treat'?"

Talia stepped forward. Her hand trembled as she touched the door—and it recognized her.

A sharp flash of light.

Her eyes turned pitch black for a split second.

The door creaked open slowly, revealing a vast, floating void.

There was no floor. Just floating pieces of earth, platforms, and crumbling stairs leading nowhere. It looked like gravity had lost a bet here.

Kael: "I hate magic. So much."

Mira (mocking): "Says the man who shoots fire from his fingers."

They carefully stepped onto one of the floating platforms. It carried them forward as if alive.

Suddenly, a screech echoed.

A creature appeared—twisted, monstrous, with glowing white eyes and long, stretched limbs. But it didn't attack.

It bowed.

Lucien (alarmed): "Talia... they're obeying you."

Talia (whispers): "Why?"

Suddenly, a voice boomed from above.

"Because she is our queen."

A figure descended from above, cloaked in shadow.

His face… half human, half skeletal, like death wearing a crown.

The Shadow King

Shadow King: "Welcome home, child of the old blood."

Talia backed up. "I'm not your child."

Shadow King (smiling): "Aren't you? Your power awakened the gate. Your darkness fed the forest. You're not cursed, Talia. You were chosen."

Lucien stepped forward. "Stay away from her."

The King smirked. "Ah, the knight who stole a piece of the void. You carry my mark, boy."

Lucien's eyes flickered black.

Talia gasped. "Lucien…"

Lucien (ashamed): "I didn't know… it was him."

The tension exploded like thunder.

Kael: "You gave her his magic?! Are you insane?!"

Lucien: "I was trying to protect her!"

Talia's voice cut through them.

Calm. Cold. Controlled.

Talia: "Everyone out."

Mira: "Talia—"

Talia: "Out. Now."

The team hesitated, but left her alone with the Shadow King.

Shadow King: "They can't protect you from what you are. But I can."

Talia stood tall. "What do you want?"

Shadow King: "Let me in… and I will show you your true power."

Talia hesitated.

Then she whispered, "On one condition."

Shadow King: "Name it."

Talia: "No more hurting them. Ever."

The king bowed. "Agreed."

And just like that—his shadows enveloped her—

Her eyes turned dark gold. Her hair floated like a goddess of night.

And far away… in the forest above…

Something ancient awoke.

Talia stepped out from the portal, eyes glowing, her aura humming with dark magic.

Lucien whispered, "What have you done…?"

Talia looked at them all.

Talia (softly): "I didn't choose this. But now I'll finish it."

Setting: The Temple Ruins — Midnight Sky Above, Shadow Realm Below

The group stood in stunned silence, watching Talia—her aura crackling with dark gold lightning, her shadow long and dancing as if it had a life of its own. The soft hum of ancient power now followed her like a second heartbeat.

Mira (in disbelief): "So… she just joined team 'Lord of Death'?"

Kael (tense): "No. She became their queen."

Lucien couldn't speak. His mouth was dry, guilt crawling up his spine like acid. He had brought her into this world. He had given her access to this power. And now… it had claimed her.

Kael (furious): "You gave her void magic, Lucien! You let this happen!"

Lucien clenched his fists. "I was trying to protect her. You think I knew this was going to happen?!"

Mira stepped between them. "Guys, stop! She's right there!"

But Talia didn't react.

Her golden eyes were scanning the air, as if seeing layers of reality no one else could.

Then… she spoke.

Talia (softly): "Something's coming."

Mira (nervous laugh): "Of course it is. Because why not? Giant snakes? Flying skulls? An army of shadow babies?"

Kael (gritting his teeth): "Everyone. Weapons up."

And then they felt it.

The ground didn't shake… it shivered.

From the darkness of the broken stairways, they came—

Figures made of whispers and smoke, wearing the faces of people they once loved. Mothers. Fathers. Lost lovers. Dead siblings. All illusions. All monsters.

Echo Creature (to Mira): "You left me to die."

Mira: "You're not real. You're not real!"

Kael (swinging his blade): "They're illusions! Hit them hard enough, they vanish!"

But the army was endless.

Lucien pulled Talia aside. "You can stop this. You're their queen, right? Order them to back down!"

Talia looked around, but her power… it wasn't responding.

Talia (gritting): "I never said I was in control."

Kael was bleeding from a gash in his shoulder. Mira was down, clutching her arm. Lucien's magic was flickering like a dying candle.

And then… one of the Echoes reached Talia.

It took the form of her mother.

Her real mother.

Echo (kind, smiling): "You were always a disappointment."

Talia flinched.

Echo (crueler): "Even with all this power, you're still just that scared little girl, waiting to be loved."

And that's when something snapped.

Talia screamed, her voice shaking the air.

A golden-black shockwave exploded from her chest, ripping through the entire horde of Echoes. They disintegrated like ashes caught in a storm.

The world grew quiet.

But not peaceful.

Talia dropped to her knees, shaking. Her hands were burning—literally smoking from the backlash of magic.

Lucien ran to her.

Lucien: "You didn't have to do that alone."

Talia (exhausted): "I had to. This is mine now."

Kael (watching her): "She's not the same."

Mira added, "She's still her. Just… heavier now."

Talia stood, trembling but proud.

Talia: "No more running. No more doubting. If this is the darkness inside me… I'll use it. To protect you. To fight him."

Lucien: "Who?"

She looked into the sky.

Talia: "The one who gave me this bloodline. The original King of Shadows."

Back in the floating platform chamber, a hidden inscription began to glow on the wall. A voice echoed:

> "When the blood of night meets the fire of stars,

A queen shall rise, but never as she was.

Love will break, and death will kneel,

But truth shall bind what gods conceal."

Kael muttered, "Great. A prophecy. Just what we needed."

Mira smirked, despite the tension. "Can we go five minutes without being the chosen ones?"

Lucien whispered, "The fire of stars… That's you, Kael. You're the last Starborn knight."

Kael blinked. "I thought that was a bedtime story."

Talia's eyes locked with Kael's.

Talia: "Then it's time for your bedtime to end."

A New Journey Begins

They stood at the edge of the floating realm, staring into a new rift that had opened in the sky—filled with red lightning and whispers.

It led to the final domain—the heart of darkness where the Original King waited.

Talia held Lucien's hand. He flinched but didn't pull away.

Kael drew his sword. Mira lit her last charm.

The team had broken. Rebuilt. Fallen apart.

But now, they were something more.

A family forged in horror, humor, heartbreak, and magic.

And they were ready.
