Chapter 98: Destroy the second Horcrux
I found myself outside the gates of Hogwarts with a group of grown-ups watching me and waiting for my orders.
"Don't forget, you'll need to remove all the teeth capable of circulating the venom from this damn snake. Normally, I would have its eyes gouged out so we wouldn't die by looking at it, but just as a precaution, we'll use anti-magic glasses."
These glasses prevent the Basilisk's deadly eye magic from working. Of course, they wouldn't be effective if the snake's eyes were at full potency, but since I've already ensured its death, the risk is so close to zero that we can safely call it zero.
I directed the team to Myrtle's toilet, where the ghost was already wondering what was going on.
"We're going to harvest everything we can from the monster that killed you 50 years ago."
One of the people in the group looked very uneasy in Myrtle's presence. I remembered that this was the same person who had bullied Myrtle, making her cry in the toilet—the very incident that led to her death.
I led the group to the antechamber before opening the door that led to the real Chamber of Secrets.
I still don't understand why Salazar Slytherin designed two doors with identical security features, knowing that opening one would automatically open the other.
I was relieved that the people I had brought with me didn't panic at the sight of the Basilisk's corpse. On the contrary, they seemed mesmerized by the monster.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I leave this corpse to you. I'll return in a few hours; for now, I have something to prepare before giving practical lessons to those who were petrified."
I left the Chamber of Secrets and went to the Room of Requirement. All I desired was a simple, empty room with nothing else.
Dumbledore was waiting for me there, holding the Ravenclaw diadem in a box. Helena Ravenclaw's ghost and the Bloody Baron were present as well, both there to witness the destruction of the object responsible for their misery.
Dumbledore set up ten defensive spells and prepared for a possible counter-attack from the diadem upon its destruction.
I raised my katana above my head and brought it down onto the mythical object.
Unlike the last time, when my katana had bounced off it, this time the diadem broke in two, releasing a black swirl of cursed energy from within.
Naturally, I leapt back with such force that I almost hit the wall, avoiding any damage to myself.
Dumbledore quickly dealt with the curse, and after he finished, he turned to me.
"I believe I owe you my thanks. I suspect this object was the cause of the misfortunes affecting the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers. Perhaps now the position will no longer be cursed, and someone can stay for more than a year."
"Wait and see," I replied.
Normally, when a ghost lets go of their regrets, they disappear. However, Helena chose to stay so she could watch over Luna, who was occasionally the target of harassment.
Even though I helped her most of the time, I couldn't always be there. It was up to Helena to take care of her in those moments.
The Bloody Baron had deeper regrets because he had killed the one he loved, leaving her trapped in what was believed to be eternal sorrow.
I think if Helena were to disappear, he might follow her. So, if everything goes as expected, they will no longer be at the school in six years.
Two Horcruxes destroyed, but I doubt this will be the last.
