The Curse of Time (Harry Potter Fanfic)

Chapter 113: Patronus of Marie's problem

"Your Patronus was amazing! How did you make it a real Patronus?"

"I don't know, I didn't really think about it. I just thought of the nice time we had together."

She's lying to me because, despite all those memories, I know Marie can't be happy enough to produce a true Patronus.

Since the Boggart incident, I haven't stopped thinking about the image of Marie with a twin or another version of herself, and I'm certain that everything that happened in that room is directly or indirectly connected to her.

Even though I've managed to piece together most of what I've seen, I still don't understand the connection with Marie—unless the mysterious person with multicolored eyes or the child is somehow linked to her.

When will you decide to tell me everything, Marie?

I know she's in love with me, but the truth she's hiding only makes me think she's not entirely serious about our relationship.

"Is something bothering you, Evelyn?"

"No, nothing. It's just that the shape of your Patronus reminds me of the big sister we both dreamed of."

"You think that too? I thought I was the only one who felt the resemblance was too strong."

I don't know why I didn't want to tell the truth to Marie. Is it because I'm afraid of seeing our relationship deteriorate, or am I scared of her reaction because her secret might be bigger than I imagine?

No matter what I think, I don't believe I'm ready to confront her for the truth.

Hermione entered the room as requested to ask Marie the same question I had asked—about the resemblance to the big sister—since she probably hadn't dreamed of her.

"Now that you've managed to create a real Patronus, could you show it to us so we can study it?"

While I was lost in my doubts, Hermione did exactly what I would have normally done.

"It's weird that you're the one asking the question instead of my girlfriend, but that's okay. Expecto Patronum."

She pointed her wand toward the center of the room, but strangely, nothing happened—not even a wisp of white smoke.

A disturbing silence filled the room as Mary tried again to summon her Patronus, only to get the same result.

"Are you sure you have happy thoughts?"

"Of course! I'm thinking of the same thing as last time, but I don't understand why it's not working. Expecto Patronum!"

But still, no white light appeared.

"Try another method. If you can summon your Patronus, I'll let you do whatever you want to me."

"Even that kind of thing?"

"Yes, even that kind of thing."

Mary's joy reached its peak, which was the expected result. Obviously, this was just to put her in a good mood and make all her memories even more joyful.

"Expecto Patronum."

But once again, the Patronus did not appear.

"It's strange. It worked in the anime you showed me, making me believe that doing this kind of thing could be beneficial for us."

"Wait, it's my fault. I didn't imagine what I wanted strongly enough. Let me try again."

Hermione wasn't really interested in our conversation, and it was understandable—she probably felt like a third wheel.

When Mary tried to cast the charm again, something finally happened.

A black smoke emerged from her wand before exploding.

"We didn't ask you to imitate that Gryffindor boy, Seamus."

"I didn't do it on purpose! I was really trying to summon my Patronus."

Is the Patronus choosing not to appear, or is there something specific about Mary's magic preventing her from summoning it?

So many questions flooded my mind, but one thing was certain—as long as there were no Dementors, her Patronus would not reappear.
