Chapter 6: 6-Lousy attempt at seduction
Prince Angelus played the harp in his room. His mind was going through the scene from the family room. His fingers pulled at the strings of the harp recklessly.
The stinging pain of his mother and Gael's betrayal haunted his thoughts.
A push at his door broke his concentration. Prince Angelus shot a cold gaze at the door, ready to incinerate the person who dared to interrupt his peace.
"I saw the lights in your room. I saw you're awake, so I brought you some tea, " Lady Isabella walked in, in a sultry red night dress, holding in her hands a tray with the pot of tea and two cups.
Prince Angelus ran his eyes up and down her body in repugnance. He loathed the scent of desperation, and Lady Isabella wore it to perfection.
Lady Isabella is Princess Rose's lady in waiting. She has served by Princess Rose's side since she was but a child. Her presence meant that Princess Rose had returned to the palace. There was only one reason that would rush his sister's return, the engagement.
Prince Angelus felt his blood boiling. His mother cheated him, Elveryn set the stage that led to his heart being torn to pieces, and Gael failed to understand his love once again.
"How are you fairing, my prince? "
Lady Isabella bent down to pour Prince Angelus a cup of tea. The dress slid up her leg, exposing her fair skin and thigh under the dress. She took her time in that position, hoping to lure Prince Angelus's gaze to her.
Prince Angelus stared at her lousy attempt at seduction. On many occasions, her flirtatious nature posed as entertainment for him. Unfortunately, he was in a nasty mood and had drank the day away without eating anything.
He was drunk, tired, and hurt. Angelus wanted to feel loved. The events of the day pressed him against the corner, feeling lonely and unloved.
"I thought you might fancy some company, " Lady Isabella expressed.
She striaightened her back and met Angelus's uninterested gaze. Isabella played with her fingers nervously. She was what most men considered exquisite, yet his royal highness always eludes her charms. He acts nonchalant towards her and doesn't gape at her with desire.
It irritated her deeply, but it was also what pushed her to try harder. Prince Angelus was the future king of Sevigoria. Securing a place by his side was the dream of most women in the kingdom.
Lady Isabella learnt upon her return that Queen Rosalyn wanted Lady Saskia for the prince. She could only bring herself to strive for the position of being his mistress.
The best way to secure her position is to get pregnant by the prince. The status would assure her stance for life and provide her family stability among the ton.
"What's got you in such a foul mood? " she inquired. She took the cup of tea over to the prince. Angelus seized the cup and set it aside, his mood worsening with her presence.
"See yourself out, Lady Isabella, " Prince Angelus shooed her off.
Lady Isabella dropped her bangle on the floor. It rolled down the room and rested under the prince's bed.
"Oops, my bangle! "
Lady Isabella feigned shock over her actions. She moved to the bed to retrieve her bangle. She raised her dress to her knee, bringing to light her long, fair legs. Isabella took her time bending down to the floor. She bent her curvy waist seductively as she reached out for her bangle.
Prince Angelus stared at her boisterous actions. On one hand, he has to come to terms with Gael's decision, and on the other note, he has to bear women desperately trying to find ways to his bed. He ran his hand over his hair.
"I can't seem to reach it. If I may trouble your royal highness to give me a hand," Lady Isabella tried to lure Angelus to her side, for him to get a closer look at what she had to offer him.
"You may not," Prince Angelus shut her advances down. "Get out!" he barked angrily.
"Why are you cruel to me?" Lady Isabella batted her eyelashes to look pitiful. "I only wish to love you... "
"Why does anything I say never get through your thick skull? " Prince Angelus tossed the cup of tea harshly the ground.
"Urgh... " Isabella gasped in fright. She'd never seen Prince Angelus lose his temper with her before. He would get irritated and dismiss her, but he never yelled or got violent.
His temperament slew her boldness. Lady Isabella straightened her dress and covered herself up.
"My apologies, my prince. I'll take your leave," she curtsied and bid hurried to leave the room.
Lady Isabella ran into Captain Davon on her way out. Davon bowed his head to acknowledge her and walked in.
"You could try to be nice to her, " he proposed to the prince.
"She's still breathing, " Prince Angelus pointed out. "That's me being fucking nice, Davon, " he added cursing out in rage.
In his anger, he disregarded common courtesy and etiquette. He lashed out on everyone that came in his sight to vent out the anger burning in his skin.
"What will you have for dinner. Aila is too scared to ask you herself, so she sent me, " Davon went straight to the point, ignoring Prince Angelus's temper.
"I'm not hungry."
"You have to eat. You've barely had anything to eat since breakfast," he said, knowing the last meal Prince Angelus had was with Lady Saskia at the wee hours of the morning.
"I wish to be left alone. Please... " he showed Captain Davon the door.
Davon frowned. It was unlike the prince to miss a meal. He gazed at the prince, and all he saw was loneliness. The male was a mess, and Davon understood that his feelings for Gael weren't a rebellious fling. He saw pain and aches behind the anger, clouding Prince Angelus's eyes.
He felt bad. He was the one who told the queen about Angelus's feeling for Gael, which led to the events that followed. His heart was ridden with guilt over the mess that went down.
Captain Davon wished he could go back in time and take back his conversation with the queen. Then Gael would be the prince's midnight secret, and he would be alright.
"Tell me what you want to eat. No matter what it is, I'll get it for you, " he refused to give up.
Prince Angelus dropped his body on the bed and ignored him. The last thing on his mind was food. He wanted to drift off to slumber and forget his sorrows.
Captain Davon felt a pang in his heart. The crazy prince galled him most of the time and annoyed him. It hadn't hit him that underneath the layers of savagery was a heart that was capable of hurting.
"I'll try my best to get you through what comes next," Davon guiltily put in words.
