CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE: GENIUS.
"Had enough?!" Ben said as he landed in front of the collapsed Pyronite.
"Uh-huh." The Pyronite responded while getting up groggily.
"There's an old guy who's been chasing you, probably wearing a Hawaiian shirt." Ben said as he walked closer to the humanoid flame.
"I don't know what you are talking about?" The Pyronite responded.
"This kid! MY GRANDFATHER, WHERE IS HE?" Ben exclaimed, he was beginning to lose his patience and would resort to torturing information out of the Pyronite if that was what it took. His Grandpa really did have a special place in his heart as a kid growing up.
"Freeze!" A voice echoed behind the duo followed by a flashlight being shone on their figures.
"I should have known you couldn't have set all those fires by yourself. But now I have got you, Alan…" The Sheriff said and turned his head to Ben.
"…You and your accomplice." The Sheriff concluded.
.
.
"Hands where I can see them!" The Sheriff demanded but that only prompted Ben to encourage himself and the Pyronite to run.
The Sheriff and some officers from the Sheriff's department ran after the duo in the corn fields immediately after.
Kevin, watching this from a distance, would only sigh to himself and shake his head, "There's nothing wrong in knocking them out and making a clean break. Guess I'll have to be 'the bad guy' again, at least I get things done." Kevin said and got up from relaxing on the red Mustang hood.
Ben, showing the results of his constant fights with hostile extra-terrestrial life forms that were stronger than him but overcame in battle with wit and quickness ran far out of reach of the Sheriff and his officers and also left a considerable distance between himself and the Pyronite that ran with him.
His years of combating threats stronger and faster than him made his escape almost seamless apart from the fact that a glowing torch kept following him which indicated their position. Even if the Sheriff's officers were trailing behind they could still keep a mark on their target thanks to the Pyronite physiology.
Stopping his run after realizing his running would be pointless if ran with a flaming torch, turned to face the Pyronite, "How am I supposed to hide with you around? You glow in the dark. Hold on I think I hear something coming."
.
.
"Don't do anything stupid." Gwen reprimanded Kevin as she could guess he was up to no good by the look in his eyes.
"Hey, don't look at me like that, at least they wouldn't even know what hit them. Just go to my car, switch it on, turn on the headlights, and rev the engine. That should get their attention and give me time to assist Ben and our amateur flame ball that wants to catch his first body so badly, haha." Kevin said with a sly grin.
"Hmph, don't do something too showy, remember we are on a mission here." Gwen stated firmly and left Kevin alone to his devices.
Seeing Gwen leave, Kevin began to do some stretches, and some light jumps to prepare himself.
'Well, this body doesn't need stretching since I can just manipulate my bones made of super dense Crystalsapien crystals and they keep getting better anytime I cultivate.' Kevin thought to himself as his feet levitated off the ground by three inches.
With his hands behind his back, Kevin hovered and flew in the direction of the sheriff and his officers. Locating them wasn't hard with his sensory techniques.
He began striking the back of the officer's heads one after the other after sneaking to their backs or blind spots lightly because if Kevin hit any harder, his targets would attain eternal rest. His skin keeps getting tougher after each cultivation session and the nature of his bones isn't something the human body can just shrug off.
'Too easy.' Kevin thought as he landed on his feet when he heard Gwen coming over with the keys of the cop car.
"So what are we supposed to…? DID YOU KILL THEM?" Gwen asked and wondered if Kevin had really turned out worse after escaping the null void.
"Nah, they are just taking the night off." Kevin answered with a smirk.
"But they saw you fight them, ugh, didn't you think this through?" Gwen scolded but Kevin waved his left index finger left and right as if to contradict what she said.
"I knocked them out… assassin style." Kevin replied as he began picking up the bodies of the officers with ease.
"Wait so you are telling me… they didn't know what hit them." Gwen asked with a surprised expression.
"And they never will. You know, sometimes my genius frightens me." Kevin laughed to himself as he heaped bodies on his shoulder as if they weighed nothing. Kevin then arranged for the officers to be seated in the car and the sheriff.
"This should look like they all tried to chase the car you turned on but forgot why they fainted." Kevin surmised.
"Oh really, they all just decided to have a quick nap in the car before chasing?" Gwen said teasingly as Kevin's eyes widened in realization.
"You are right!" Kevin said as he squeezed himself into the driver's seat and started the cop car.
"Kevinnn… what are you doing??" Gwen asked warily.
"You said it yourself, how are they supposed to believe they just took a nap like that? I am creating a believable alibi. If I was doing this mission alone, I wouldn't even go through all this stress but here I go." Kevin said as he drove the cop car to a tractor nearby and parked it near the tractor, leaving only half an inch of space.
"And now, for the finishing touches." Kevin said as she stepped out of the car but not before leaving the siren lights on. Kevin then squeezed the bonnet of the car and the front of the tractor with his bare hands to make it look like an accident.
"There, that should do it. Now let's go and look for Ben." Kevin said as he walked away from the scene.
Gwen had a lot of questions in her head like how he was able to do that without transforming or absorbing anything but decided to run along for now.
