Chapter 21
21 – Unwanted Companion (4)
The capital city was quiet in the middle of the night.
Sometimes we saw guards patrolling at night, but we didn’t see anyone walking at night like us.
Even if it was a space without people, there was no place I knew.
It’s only been a week since I came to the capital.
Even among them, two days were out for a quest.
I didn’t have time to look around the capital comfortably.
There was no way I could have known a place where I could talk alone in the yard, where I had never looked around the streets properly.
“Let’s walk for a while.”
I made a reckless step forward in the hope that it would happen.
I walked forward as the cool night air led me.
The sound of branches swaying in the wind, the sound of firewood burning in the nearby brazier. It’s a sound you can only hear at night.
There was a mismatch in the sound of footsteps matching the nameless dragon.
I looked around her and saw that she was falling behind.
He took a deep breath while grabbing her overturned robe.
She shook her body and pounded her chest hard.
It was an action to calm himself down.
But there was no sign of improvement.
It has been like this for a while.
My steps slowed down because it was hard to make up my mind.
I stepped closer to her side.
She gently placed her hand on her shoulder.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m sorry. Because her chest is a little stuffy…”
My breathing became rough and I couldn’t speak properly.
Could something of her help, she said and looked at her hands protruding between her robes.
She took her hand carefully.
Unlike Erina, she was surprised by the fresh reaction.
“…Thank you.”
She was worried that she might shake her hand, but she meekly accepted my hand.
Fortunately, her body, which had been trembling, began to calm down.
The unstable breathing was also looking for a place.
As it was, we walked along the street.
Going west through the center.
I moved away from the city center and entered the commercial district.
There was a fountain in the middle of the street.
The memory of talking here with Erina before came to mind.
Here she declared to me that she would defeat the Demon King and make her best ending.
‘In a way, it’s still a similar situation.’
But, unlike then, I feel much more comfortable now.
When she was with Erina from time to time, she would be nervous and suspicious of her.
It would be funny to hear that, but there were battles of nerves in their own way.
But the nameless dragon was different.
It’s been a while since we’ve met, but ironically, I felt much more comfortable than when I was with Erina.
‘If Erina finds out about this, she will be furious.’
I kept walking down the street with that thought.
I passed the commercial district and continued to go west.
An unfamiliar road appeared and the guards became less and less.
Even the sound of crickets around me has subsided.
Finally we found a quiet and secluded space.
“There was a place like this.”
There was a big tree and a bench.
As if it was a place not often visited by people, the old chair was covered with dust.
It is quite far from the residential area.
It was more appropriate to say that it was a quiet place rather than a gloomy place.
I went under a huge tree.
I wiped the dust off the old chair and made a seat.
“Are you okay now?”
“Yes. Thank you.”
Fortunately, his expression was brighter than before.
The voice became calm and the tremors disappeared.
What kind of nightmare did you have that made you look so anxious?
Before she could ask her, she spoke up first.
“Actually, old memories appeared in my dreams.”
“Memories of the past?”
He took a breath and bowed his head in front of me.
The expression that seemed to be getting better darkened again.
“A long time ago, there was a time when I was hanging out with other Yongin.”
It didn’t feel like a vague recollection of childhood memories.
Rather, she was drenched in excellence with a look of regret.
“At that time, I was very arrogant.”
“…”
“I misunderstood myself as strong and went through other people at will.”
He began to recite past mistakes in front of me as if he was confessing.
Slaughtered monsters and animals and insulted the elves.
She quarreled with other people.
She even confessed to committing unintentional murder by fighting humans.
“Even then, it wasn’t my fault. That person was weak and died. I had such a stupid idea.”
Even in arrogance, there is a law.
It is said that there was no one who could stop her like that.
But after the demon king appeared, everything changed.
From noble mtl dot com
“After becoming a body chased by the Demon King, I have endlessly regretted the past.”
Everything was an illusion. She wasn’t strong.
It was not superior to other races.
He was just a pathetic guy who fell into pride.
“There was a time when, even if it was too late, I tried to unite the dragons and fight the demon king.”
“But now,”
Considering what the nameless dragon was like, it didn’t seem to have a very good ending.
She continued her story in a trembling voice.
“I took the lead and led my colleagues. But they don’t seem to recognize me as a leader.”
It is said that even the wings, the symbol of Yongin, were torn apart because of betrayal.
She ran away after that, and it is said that she was constantly chased by the demon king army.
“It’s unfortunate.”
The nameless dragon always had its back hidden.
I probably didn’t notice it myself, but I did.
Even when he took off his clothes or put on a robe, he was unconsciously reluctant to expose his back.
I didn’t think it was strange, but I didn’t know that something like this would happen.
“Maybe it was the result of my arrogance.”
Why did you hang on to the title of the boss so much?
Even then, she could not shake off her ego of her childhood.
“Since then, I’ve been chased by the demon king all my life. I’ve never had a rest in peace for decades.”
In the midst of a crisis chasing anywhere, she had no choice but to be sensitive.
If you are in a situation where you run away lonely without a helper, no one will be able to keep your mind fully.
“But I met you.”
“…”
“I thought I’d never be able to make friends again. But you gave me hope.”
I could see her face through the robes.
My lips were trembling.
Her eyes were sparkling as if she was about to cry.
“I don’t want to miss this opportunity. I don’t want to be alone again.”
Actually, I didn’t know that my proposal would have so much meaning.
But I could understand her feelings to some extent.
Will I be betrayed?
Wouldn’t disappoint her colleagues.
I wonder if I will be alone again.
That’s why I was so hesitant to join as my colleague.
“Actually, I didn’t know much about you.”
Everything she said was the first time I heard it.
I don’t know if I remember or if it’s never been portrayed in the game, but the latter is probably correct.
I didn’t know anything about her until I met her in person.
Even now, I didn’t even know the name.
She asked when we first met, but quietly shook her head.
Looking back, she was also approached too hastily.
“Still, I will never regret having you as a colleague.”
Even after her story ended, the gaze on her did not change.
I was rather sad.
And her desire to hold her somehow grew stronger. She never wanted to miss it.
“Of course, you can’t erase the past.”
There were violent times in the past.
There were times when I fell into pride and regretted it later.
Betrayed by her colleagues, she has lived as a fugitive for many years.
But it’s all in the past.
“You can’t live on the past forever.”
You can’t erase the past. The scars that have already been deeply entrenched in her heart will remain as scars no matter how much time passes.
Still, it was not right for her to live in regret for the rest of her life.
It is impossible to suffer alone until her death.
“You have to do well in the future.”
I didn’t know how she would take my words.
However, I want you to know the sincerity I showed you.
I wish I could get rid of the regrets of the past.
There was a moment of silence.
I heard the sound of branches swaying with the wind.
A very small squeak was heard in the quiet street.
She couldn’t lift her head, covering her face with her robe.
I quietly waited for him to calm down.
How much time has passed?
The nameless dragon finally raised her head.
My eyes were red and swollen.
Even so, he was drawing a small smile with a refreshed expression than before.
“I was a little surprised because I had never heard it anywhere. Thank you though.”
Has no one ever told her this before?
I could imagine just how lonely she must have been.
Finally her eyes returned.
It looked like he had shaken off a little bit of his gloomy and regretful feelings.
“I want to kill the Demon King with you.”
She spoke to me in a hoarse voice.
Kill the Demon King and gain freedom.
Me too. The clue to find out what Erina’s purpose was was in the Demon King.
But in the current state, I couldn’t reach the Demon King.
I had to be stronger than Erina, than anyone else, the Demon King.
Nameless use You know that.
“But it’s impossible on your own.”
We had to join forces. To do that, you need faith.
It had to be a closer relationship than a simple colleague.
“So, I want to ask you one thing.”
It must be a request to help me.
The confident eyes were directed towards me.
“I believe in you. You also believe in me. But,”
That alone was not enough. If it was just a word, it could someday be forgotten or changed.
So she wanted certainty.
“I want to prove my faith with promises, not mere words.”
The nameless dragon knelt before me.
She then asked me for permission.
“Would you like to become a dragon warrior for me?”
