The Butcher of Sargon (LoL x Arknight Fanfiction)

Chapter 159: Volume 2 Chapter 38: The History Professor at Trimounts Polytechnic University

"Breaking news! Rhine Lab has discovered a new medicine capable of suppressing Oripathy in the scorching sands south of Sargon. This development could revolutionize the current challenges of diagnosing and treating Oripathy!"

"Kristen Wright, co-founder of Rhine Lab and head of the Component Control Section, has voluntarily transferred 10% of her shares to commend the contributions of Defense Division head Saria in this operation."

"Latest update: Saria, along with the medicine she was carrying, has been detained by Sargon authorities, suspected of an attempted interception!"

"..."

Rhine Lab had just concluded its morning meeting, where it announced a press conference to be held in a week. By afternoon, fragmented reports of the event were already making their way to news outlets.

In no time, rumors about Rhine Lab were spreading like wildfire across the city. Even Razer, who had just passed Blacksteel International's interview and was on her way home to pack up while awaiting further notice, was aware of it.

In Terra's recruitment tests, operatives' physical capabilities are generally categorized into five levels: Deficient, Ordinary, Standard, Excellent, and Outstanding.

For most security companies, candidates are considered elite if they meet the average across six attributes and excel in at least one.

Blacksteel International's standards, especially in its headquarters' region, are notably higher—requiring at least one attribute to reach the Excellent level for basic eligibility.

Of course, meeting the Excellent standard isn't easy, so Blacksteel has a dedicated training program for recruits. Even those who fail the interview can enter the training facility for special instruction.

Razer's initial plan was to join the training program even if she couldn't become a formal Blacksteel operative. A bit of hardship wouldn't deter her.

But now, it seemed like she might directly become a full-fledged employee?!

If Garde were here, he wouldn't be surprised at all.

After all, the time she had spent training wasn't insignificant. If Razer couldn't even pass Blacksteel's interview after a month and a half of rigorous training with him, it would truly be disappointing.

Moreover, Razer's current status was at the dual Excellent level. Compared to her fully matured self in the future, what she lacked now was likely just battlefield experience.

The only thing troubling Razer was her diet at Rhine Lab, which, thanks to Garde, had been far too indulgent. She had gained a few pounds over the past few days and was determined to lose the weight.

As she left Blacksteel International, Razer walked through a district she recognized. Garde had mentioned that his reason for coming to Columbia was to study.

And the district before her was none other than Trimounts's famous metropolitan area.

Could he be here?

Razer walked absentmindedly through the streets when she overheard a conversation nearby.

"Franka, where do you plan to work after graduation?"

"Me? Of course, Blacksteel!"

Hearing this,Razer couldn't help but turn her head, only to catch a glimpse of a young Vulpo girl's back.

'Blacksteel really is famous!' she thought to herself. Determined, she resolved to study even harder.

If Garde, someone already so strong, insisted on learning, how could she afford to slack off?

Razer didn't notice that from the moment she left her inn, through her time at Blacksteel, and now as she was returning, someone had been following her.

"Target Eleven has not exhibited any suspicious behavior so far."

"What about Rhine Lab?"

"We're closely monitoring Parvis, the director of the Structural Section, along with the members of the Third and Sixth Groups."

In an unnoticed shadowed corner, encrypted messages were transmitted to the local offices of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Arts Units and Originium and the Bureau of Originium Products Management.

"Subject No.1, Garde, and Subject No.5, Muelsyse, have joined Rhine Lab. Since then, Rhine Lab has approved five experimental projects, two located outside Trimounts City and three in the Lower District."

"Focus on the three projects in the Lower District. Also, notify the quarantine checkpoint manager to enhance the inspection of goods entering and exiting over the next month."

"Director, isn't a month too long?"

"If we don't find what we're looking for in a month, extend it to two months, or even three. These companies in the city need to stay in line."

"But the military..."

"Send some of our intel to Colonel Banya of the Fifth Army Group. As Columbians, we should be working together at times like this."

Charles, the director of the local branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Arts Units and Originium, understood the filth and corruption rampant in these large corporations. Normally, he'd turn a blind eye, but when national interests were at stake, no amount of influence or connections would protect anyone.

Most importantly, this was about his own career advancement.

"By the way, regarding Subject No.1, I remember that Ho'olheyak is currently at Trimounts Polytechnic University."

"Yes, sir. On the surface, she's a guest professor in the history department at Trimounts Polytechnic University."

"Have her make contact with Subject No.1. We're still unclear on why Subject No.1 is heading to Trimounts Polytechnic—whether it's a straightforward reason or something more. However, he could be the key to breaking this case open."

Direct contact or covert surveillance wouldn't work here. Charles didn't know what promises Rhine Lab had made to Garde, but whatever they offered, the Bureau could match it—and exceed it.

What the Bureau investigators didn't realize was that Originium Arts sometimes transcends time and space itself.

At Trimounts Polytechnic University, the director of the administrative office had already received a notice. Rhine Lab would be sending an exchange student today.

Normally, an exchange student wouldn't merit much attention. But this was no ordinary student—this individual was also a high-ranking official in Rhine Lab's Defense Division, with recommendations from both Kristen and Saria. Such credentials demanded respect.

However, when Garde finally appeared before the director, the man found himself at a loss. The upper management had informed him that an exchange student would be arriving, but they hadn't mentioned that the student would be a towering Adakrys built like a Cyclops!

As the director hesitated over which professor to assign Garde to, the office door knocked. A mature and alluring figure entered after receiving permission.

"Director Lianmanni, how about entrusting this exchange student to me?"

A lazy yet enchanting female voice echoed through the office.

"It just so happens that Mr. Garde and I share a bit of history."
