Chapter 60: Twist of fate.
When Jordan arrived at Kelvin's house, he carried Dave in his arms and went straight to the door. The doorbell rang twice before it was answered.
Rebecca and Haymen appeared quickly, their faces tense as if they already knew what had happened.
"Take him upstairs," Haymen instructed. Rebecca gestured for Jordan to follow her to Kelvin's room.
"Lay him down gently," Rebecca said, guiding Jordan as he placed Dave carefully on the bed.
"He's not safe here," Haymen said, his tone laced with urgency.
"What should we do?" Rebecca asked, panic evident in her voice. "Kelvin said the substance they used on him would keep him unconscious for 24 hours. We can't leave him here—anyone could come for him at any moment."
Jordan, confused and overwhelmed, spoke up. "Wait. What exactly is going on?"
"…"
"Youth, just stay out of this," Haymen said curtly. "You've done your part by bringing him here. You can leave now."
"No! I'm not going anywhere," Jordan retorted firmly. "I'm already involved in this, and I'm not backing out now."
Rebecca tried to intervene. "Listen, this matter is complicated, confusing, and frankly unbelievable. For your own good and safety, just stay out of it."
"What's the point of friendship if I can't sacrifice for my friends?" Jordan countered defiantly. "I've vowed to protect them, and I won't let anything happen to Dave. Please, just tell me what's going on."
Haymen exchanged a glance with Rebecca, who nodded reluctantly.
"Alright, Jordan," Rebecca said. "But you must promise to keep this a secret."

Back in the Cell
"Why? WHY?!" Kelvin's anguished cry echoed through the cell as he held his mother's lifeless body.
After years of being separated from her, his one chance to see her again had turned into a cruel twist of fate. His hopes had soared when Ortho showed him the video of her, the joy of reuniting filling his heart. But now this. This devastating tragedy.
He had lost her again, this time forever. He hadn't been there for her when he was younger, and this second chance had been snatched away. It was all their fault.
"I won't spare them," Kelvin growled, his voice trembling with fury. "None of them will live."
Carrying his mother in his arms, Kelvin kicked the cell gate open and stormed out. He would give her a proper burial.

Elsewhere
"Master! Master!" A panicked subordinate burst into the hall where Arthur was seated, drinking and laughing with Ortho and some elders.
"What's the problem?" Arthur asked, setting his cup down. "Why are you rushing in here like a man being chased?"
"It's Drusilla, Master… she's dead. She killed herself."
Arthur's face drained of color as he shot to his feet.
"What?! Oh, no. What has this woman done to us?" he exclaimed, pacing the hall in panic.
"She's done plenty," a cold voice cut through the air. Everyone turned to see Kelvin standing there, his eyes blazing with rage.
"You killed my mother," Kelvin growled. "You killed her!"
His roar shook the walls, sending chills through everyone present.
"I won't spare a single one of you," Kelvin vowed. "You should start digging your own graves." With that, he vanished.
"Fuck, fuck!" Arthur cursed, pacing frantically. "I didn't expect this to happen. Increase security immediately! If anyone sees Kelvin, kill him on sight. And if you see Dave, bring him to me alive. Kelvin is our enemy now—our only bait is gone. Useless!"

Back at Kelvin's House
"So… there are supernatural beings in this town, and Kelvin is one of them," Jordan said in disbelief. "Not just any supernatural being—a hybrid. His father was a wolf, and his mother, a vampire. She was supposed to be dead, but she was alive and captured by a clan called Dark Water—the same clan Ortho is from.
"They wanted to use him for their selfish gain, and the Veilkeeper wants to kill him because he killed her son. But she's the one responsible for his parents' deaths. And you two—Rebecca and Haymen—you're his adoptive parents.
"This is… incredible. I've only read about beings like this in history. I never thought they still existed."
"Exactly," Haymen said. "That's why I said it's not something easy to believe, but it's the truth behind all the chaos happening now."
"What's the next step?" Jordan asked. "How do we help Kelvin or get Dave out of here without attracting attention?"
"Right now, we're not sure—" Rebecca's words were cut off as Kelvin suddenly appeared in the room, startling everyone.
He fell to his knees, his mother's body cradled in his arms.
"I won't spare them," Kelvin sobbed, his voice trembling with grief. "They killed my mother. They killed her!"
"Kelvin, Kelvin, calm down," Haymen said, trying to comfort him.
Rebecca, tears streaming down her face, placed a trembling hand over her mouth. "My baby… it's okay. It's okay," she whispered through her sobs.
Kelvin stood, gently laying his mother on the bed. "We'll bury her tonight. But first, I need to hand Dave over to someone who can keep him safe."
Moments later, a figure in white attire appeared in the room.
"Why did you summon me?" the figure asked, his gaze sweeping across the room.
"Sebastian," Kelvin said. "I need your help. You already understand what's happening. Please, take Dave and keep him safe. Once I'm done with the Dark Water, I'll come for him."
Sebastian sighed. "I've told you before—I don't want to get involved in your matters. But I'll do this for Dave."
He picked Dave up and disappeared, leaving the room in tense silence.
Even after everything had been explained, Jordan remained in stunned disbelief.
With Dave safely in Sebastian's care, Kelvin turned to his next solemn task: burying his mother.
"Mom, Dad, let's head to the burial ground. Some people will bring the casket soon," Kelvin said quietly.
They all changed into black attire, Haymen had carefully wrapped Drusilla in an elegant garment and placed her in a golden casket adorned with shimmering gems.
Kelvin and Haymen carried the casket with solemn reverence as Jordan and Rebecca followed closely behind.

A Few Hours Later
In the graveyard, rain poured relentlessly, thunder crackling across the sky as if nature itself mourned the loss. Kelvin, Haymen, Jordan, and Rebecca stood around Drusilla's grave, their clothes drenched but their hearts heavier than the storm.
Drusilla had been laid to rest, her burial marked by the undeniable sense that a powerful presence had left the world.
Kelvin stood motionless, anger and grief intertwining as his fists clenched and unclenched repeatedly.
Haymen approached him, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "We need to leave now, son. Everything that needed to be done has been done. Let's go. Her pure soul will find peace."
Kelvin looked at him, his eyes reflecting a pain so deep it felt almost unbearable.
Haymen embraced him as Kelvin leaned into his father's strength. "I understand, son. We'll get through this together," Haymen said softly.
"I have to leave now, Dad," Kelvin said, pulling back. His voice was resolute, though tinged with sorrow. "Mother told me not to spare anyone, and I won't."
Rebecca stepped forward, her eyes filled with worry. She wrapped her arms around Kelvin, holding him tightly. "Please, my son, be careful. I won't be able to bear it if anything happens to you. Promise me you'll watch your back."
"Yes, Mom," Kelvin assured her gently. "I'll be careful."
Rebecca's voice hardened slightly, a spark of determination in her tone. "Bring me Arthur's head. Send it to Selvara as a warning—let her know you're not to be trifled with."
"I'll bring you his head, Mom," Kelvin said with unwavering confidence. He turned to Jordan, offering him a reassuring nod before vanishing into the night, leaving them standing in the rain.
