The Blossoming Love

Chapter 6: Chapter 6

**Chapter 6: The Sleepover**

The weekend arrived faster than Bella expected.

She stood in the middle of her large living room, her eyes sweeping across the space. The high ceilings, elegant furniture, and huge windows gave the house a magazine-like polish, but tonight it felt unfamiliar—too neat and too formal. She had done her best to soften it by scattering throw blankets, layering the floor with plush pillows, and stringing up fairy lights until the entire room glowed.

The smell of freshly popped popcorn filled the air. A stack of rom-coms sat on the table, surrounded by snacks she wasn't sure anyone would touch.

Still, she was nervous.

It was her first time hosting. She had never invited friends over before—not here, not in this house that always made her feel a little too quiet and a little too small.

Ding-dong.

Bella took a deep breath and opened the door.

"Whoa," Alex said, stepping inside with a bag of gummy bears. His eyes widened as he took in the front hall. "Are we in a castle?"

"I brought face masks and the cheesiest movie ever!" Sarah added, her jaw dropping as she stepped in. "Bella… this house is gorgeous."

Emily followed, holding a tray of cupcakes. "This isn't a house—it's a fairy tale. Why didn't you invite us sooner?"

Bella gave a nervous smile, stepping aside. "I… didn't think it mattered that much."

Alex turned in a slow circle, taking in the spiral staircase and polished floors. "Girl. It matters."

"I tried to make it feel cozy," Bella mumbled. "Not too… rich-looking."

"Well, it feels magical," Emily said, plopping down on a velvet floor pillow. "Like a movie set, but with snacks."

Bella laughed quietly, still unsure of what to say. Hosting people didn't come naturally to her, but she was happy they seemed at ease.

They changed into pajamas, settled into the glowing room, and kicked off the night with popcorn, movies, and laughter.

About halfway through the second movie, the snack stash was half gone, and everyone was scattered across the floor like sleepy stars. The giant living room had become a warm bubble of friendship and sugar.

Then Sarah sat up, her eyes drifting toward the hallway.

"Hey… random question," she said. "Where are your parents?"

Bella blinked, then smiled. "Oh—they're in the Maldives."

Emily raised an eyebrow. "As in, for work?"

"No," Bella said, laughing softly. "Another honeymoon. They take one every three months. I think they've been to the Maldives four times now."

Alex stared at her. "That's not marriage—that's fan fiction."

"They're always sending me photos in matching sunglasses or heart-shaped pools. It's… a lot," Bella said fondly.

"But sweet," Sarah added.

"They're really close," Bella said. "They still text me every morning, even when they're away. They're the most in-love people I know."

Emily smiled. "That explains your soft heart."

Bella lowered her eyes. "They've always been there for me. Even when I feel… like too much of an introvert to fit in."

Alex nudged her gently. "You fit in with us just fine."

Emily added, "I mean, you gave us fairy lights, cupcakes, and a luxury sleepover. You win, Bella."

Bella blushed. "Thanks. I'm glad you're here."

"What about Andrew?" Sarah asked.

"He moved out," Bella replied. "He's older now—living closer to work. Still checks in, though. Texts me memes and lectures me about locking the doors."

"Classic big brother stuff," Alex said.

"Yup," Bella replied softly.

Later that night, after a dramatic dance-off and a failed yoga pose contest, the group lay sprawled across the floor again, catching their breath.

"Okay," Sarah said, rolling onto her side, "serious question now. What's the deal with Ethan?"

Bella froze slightly. "What do you mean?"

"He keeps looking at you," Emily said. "Like, every time we're in class."

"I've seen it too," Alex added. "It's not subtle. It's like he's studying you."

Bella hugged her knees to her chest. "I don't even know him. We've never talked."

"Exactly," Sarah said. "And still, he watches you like you're his next game."

Bella hesitated. "I thought maybe I was imagining it."

"You're not," Sarah said firmly. "And I've told you before—Ethan's a player. He flirts for fun, then disappears. Don't fall for it."

"I'm not planning to," Bella said quietly. "I don't even like that kind of attention. I never know how to handle it."

"That's exactly why he's interested," Emily said. "You're different. You're not chasing him."

Bella looked down. "He makes me uncomfortable."

"Then avoid him," Alex said. "Don't let him into your space. People like him only matter if you let them."

"I'm trying," Bella murmured. "I just want things to stay calm."

Sarah reached over and squeezed her hand. "Then let us worry about Ethan. You just be you."

A small smile tugged at Bella's lips. "You guys are the best."

"Also," Emily added suddenly, "if he ever shows up with a guitar or a boom box or anything cheesy—record it."

Alex laughed. "Yes. We need proof for the group chat."

Bella giggled. "You're all ridiculous."

"But loyal," Sarah said with a wink.

And in that moment—surrounded by the warmth of true friendship—Bella felt a sense of belonging she had never known before.**Chapter 6: The Sleepover**
