Chapter 405: Ancestor's Secret
Colin opened the door and led Jennifer to the sofa in the living room, asking softly,
"What would you like to drink?"
"Anything is fine."
Jennifer felt a bashful charm towards the attractive Wizard whom she almost engaged, but the Family's crisis dissipated those tender feelings as swiftly as clouds vanish.
Renee timely brought over two cups of tea and a plate of exquisite snacks.
"After exchanging pleasantries, Colin asked, "May I know what brings Princess Jennifer here?"
Jennifer took out that familiar half-badge and looked earnestly at Colin, saying,
"I indeed need your assistance in a matter, but before discussing it, I hope you can promise to keep it confidential."
Colin raised his eyebrows slightly and, pausing as he eyed the half-metal badge on the table, nodded gravely, "Of course, you can rely on me, Princess Jennifer."
"We would like Mr. Colin to help us open a door."
"Open a door?" Colin was slightly startled, putting down his cup of tea.
"Yes, you shall know everything once you are there, I'm afraid I cannot disclose more," Jennifer said with an apologetic expression, pausing before adding, "This matter isn't dangerous. You don't have to worry. The location is at Roon Palace."
Without hesitation, Colin picked up the half-badge from the table and said readily, "Alright, lead the way, Your Highness."
Jennifer nodded, relieved, and walked out with Colin to board a plain public coach.
The Coachman, ordinary in appearance and especially silent, asked nothing when Colin and Jennifer boarded, and then drove the coach from an unfamiliar path out of the residential area into a bustling street.
As Colin felt puzzled, Jennifer, cheeks slightly red, bit her lip and suddenly removed her gray overcoat to reveal a white cashmere sweater, outlining her exquisite figure.
Colin was taken aback and was about to inquire when he saw Jennifer, in a flurry, retrieve a luxurious robe and put it back on.
"These are necessary measures of concealment," Jennifer said, now with flushed cheeks but trying to appear calm.
She could no longer remember the details her elder had told her earlier, as they seemed to have turned into steam and slipped away during her moment of shyness.
"...I see," Colin didn't dwell on it, knowing sometimes these primitive methods of concealment could be more effective against Wizards than witchcraft.
After a pause, he suddenly frowned and asked, "Does the Roon Family suspect that Mr. Erwin's disappearance is linked with the three Wizards from Yista School who recently arrived?"
Jennifer was particularly cautious about her tracks, clearly to avoid certain individuals.
And to Colin, those individuals were most likely the newly arrived trio from Com.
Jennifer glanced at Colin with a surprised look, yet she remained silent.
Seeing her reaction, Colin didn't press further, but his curiosity grew.
Could it be that the Wizards from Yista School are targeting the Roon Family… aiming to seize control of the power in Roon Kingdom?
"Mr. Colin, the Coachman will continue to take you to the destination."
The coach stopped behind a high-end tailor shop, and after speaking, Jennifer discreetly climbed out.
She would take the Royal Family's exclusive carriage from the entrance of the tailor shop and return to the Palace openly.
No one would suspect that she had actually visited Colin during this time.
After such a detour, Colin finally arrived at the depths of Roon Palace.
This place, located deep underground near a nondescript large tree at the southeast corner of the Palace, comprised a narrow grey corridor about two meters wide.
At the end of the corridor, there stood a door embossed with ears of wheat and made of copper-colored metal.
Next to the door, slightly wider, stood three core members of the Royal Family.
"King De Wildt, Prince Serass, Princess Eliza," Colin greeted each of them.
The three respectfully returned the greeting.
"Mr. Colin, it is a pity that the Roon Family has fallen to such straits," the King said with a dignified tone, his slightly cloudy eyes fixingly staring at Colin.
It was a gamble.
This was another White Tower of Grandfather Erwin.
Grandfather had disappeared mysteriously with all the Official Wizards, leaving not a single clue behind. The Roon Family still existed, but just barely.
A Roon Family devoid of even a single Official Wizard would soon lose all its power and resources, plummeting from the clouds into the mire without any buffer.
The current hidden White Tower, as Wizard Erwin once said, could be opened during the direst times for the Roon Family, where he had left some valuable resources.
And now was undoubtedly that time.
Yet, absurdly, the outermost daily protection of this secret chamber's door needed at least a First Rank Wizard to open.
This was originally intended to ward off any intruders or thieves but now posed the greatest challenge to De Wildt and the others.
Erwin probably never imagined that there would come a day when the Roon Family wouldn't even be able to find an Official Wizard to open the secret chamber.
"What exactly do I need to do?" Colin asked.
"Sir, you will need to input both Magic Power and spiritual power into the pillar simultaneously," De Wildt pointed to a roughly one-meter-tall diamond-shaped pillar to the right of the door and said.
"Wait a while?"
"Yes, we need to wait for Jennifer to arrive," De Wildt answered, then added with a wry smile, "She is now the most powerful Wizard in our entire Roon Family. We need her cooperation to open the door."
