The Bizarre Wizarding World

Chapter 392: Wishing You Smooth Sailing_2

The disasters recorded above had all been resolved, either directly by the Roon Royal Family members themselves or indirectly with their assistance...

The authenticity of the historical records obviously required further examination, but that was not the focus of Colin's concern—

"So Cumberland was a wizard of the Roon Royal Family?"

He continued to read further down.

Sure enough, after a few lines, a string of characters confirmed his guess.

"After resolving the food disaster, Wizard Cumberland, on behalf of the Roon Royal Family, visited cities such as Yinto, Ria, Snain, and others, consoling the disaster victims and delivering relief supplies..."

Cumberland was indeed a wizard of the Roon Royal Family!

Colin felt a slight excitement rising in his heart.

This discovery undoubtedly meant that he could obtain more information related to Cumberland with greater ease in the Roon Kingdom!

Perhaps... he could even find that "Nameless Breathing Skill"!

With a hopeful heart, Colin then combed through all of the Wizard Tower's materials related to Cumberland.

Gradually, his impression of the wizard named Cumberland became clearer—

Cumberland Roon, a prodigy from childhood, became a Second Rank Wizard before the age of one hundred, but afterward, he became engrossed in other matters: Magic Potion Making, Witch Tools creation, and even Witch Arrays and rune engraving, these pursuits wasted much of his time.

But that alone wasn't an issue, the pity was that he seemed to have been seriously injured during a research, and even after treatment, he was still left with a chronic illness. He often went mad, unable to maintain even the dignity of a Second Rank Wizard, and in the spring of Yanan Calendar year 3233, he quietly disappeared.

"Spring of Yanan Calendar 3233..." Colin silently noted down the date.

Putting away the books in his hands, orange light from the setting sun streamed in through the narrow square window, and before he knew it, it was already evening.

Colin couldn't help feeling a little sentimental.

The narration on Note 2 was logical and the handwriting very neat; it hardly seemed the work of a wizard who had gone mad.

Cumberland's experience was truly a pity... no matter how great the talent, one should not squander time.

Colin silently admonished himself.

If Cumberland had focused on his practice, he would at least be a Third Rank Wizard with a lifespan of eight hundred years. By that time, with the long years and greater strength, perhaps he wouldn't have ended up in such a state.

Leaving the Document Tower, Colin returned home, but he didn't expect to be greeted by an unexpected visitor.

The evening's orange sunlight penetrated the stained glass windows, casting a soft glow on the figure of a young girl with snow-white hair sitting on the sofa, her eyes closed as if resting, looking like a beautiful doll that could exist only in fantasy.

"Good evening, Shelley," Colin greeted, a hint of surprise in his heart.

"Good evening," Shelley slightly opened her eyes, a rare sign of fatigue on her face.

Colin paused for a moment before finally asking,

"Has something happened recently? I've heard that the Chasai Commerce is being targeted by other local chambers of commerce in the Roon Kingdom... If you don't mind, you could tell me about it, perhaps I could help out."

Shelley was slightly taken aback, she looked at Colin, the corners of her mouth seemingly lifting in an almost imperceptible smile.

"Those local chambers of commerce are not worth mentioning." After pondering for a moment, she straightened the hair by her ear and said, "The main challenge facing Chasai Commerce right now is in sales."

"Do you know why we established the Chasai Commerce in the Roon Kingdom?"

Colin shook his head.

His curiosity was not strong, and even after being in the Roon Kingdom for over a year, he had not gone out of his way to inquire about the affairs of Chasai Commerce; as for Shelley— or rather, the specific purposes of her and the Truth Society in Roon, he really had no clue.

Shelley didn't keep him in suspense, and after casting a shielding spell, she said directly,

"We came here to reform agriculture."

"As a major grain-producing country, Roon Kingdom still has a vast number of serfs dying of hunger each year. Apart from distribution issues, it is also because the current grain yield from wheat fields is still not enough.

We hope to increase the yield from the fields to prevent serfs from dying of starvation."

"This step is crucial on the path to achieve the Truth Society's goal of enriching ordinary people and enriching the world."

Colin nodded slightly, not questioning the details of Shelley's plan or doubting its effectiveness, and just continued to ask, "So what is the current problem?"

"Our newly researched agricultural tools, clearly more efficient and labor-saving, are not recognized by the nobles. They are all unwilling to spend money on the serfs they deem lowly," Shelley sighed softly.

Colin remained silent; he was one of this world's privileged classes—a Wizard.

He had experienced plenty of the scheming among wizards, but he knew very little about the world's lower-class citizens.

However, in his past life as an ordinary person, he was not unfamiliar with the plight of those serfs.

Although he had never farmed seriously, if he traced back three generations, they were all bona fide farmers.

Furthermore, in his generation, working for capitalists in the city wasn't fundamentally different from being a serf.

It was only thanks to the progress of the times that there had been some improvements in various areas.

"Actually, we tried giving away a batch of new agricultural tools for free last year, just to make a name for ourselves," Shelley continued, "A year has passed, and the improvement in farming it has brought is indeed obvious to all; at least there has been a fifty percent increase, and the cultivated area for some has even doubled."

"Unfortunately, those nobles and slave masters just marvel at it, and as soon as it comes to spending money to change their tools, they immediately shake their heads and refuse."
