Chapter 18: Chapter 18: I Have to Be a Stand-In Tonight
At the Sullivan residence.
Charles Sullivan slammed the phone down, his face darkened. "What?!"
"What is it, darling?" Linda asked anxiously.
Charles replied grimly, "CC Perfume just returned our bidding documents. They've rejected our proposal completely!"
Linda collapsed onto the sofa, her voice trembling. "It's all Clara's fault. She offended Mr. Sun, and now he's gone back on his word and cut off the collaboration!"
They hadn't expected that Mr. Sun's words carried so much weight—just one complaint, and everything had fallen apart.
"Don't mention that rebellious girl again!" Charles snapped, his tone bitter.
Their resentment toward Clara grew even deeper. If she had just behaved and followed their orders, this business deal wouldn't have been ruined.
The mood in the living room was suffocating. Then Charles remembered something and turned to his younger daughter. "Emily, how are things going with your husband? Have you finally slept with Alexander?"
Although Emily had married Alexander Ford, their marriage remained a secret. Very few people knew she was Mrs. Ford—let alone that Charles was father-in-law to the most powerful man in Ashbourne.
Emily hesitated. "Dad… it's not going well. I still haven't… we haven't slept together yet."
Smack!
Charles slammed his palm onto the coffee table. "Useless! All this time, and you still can't get into Alexander Ford's bed? I've hit walls everywhere lately, and we lost CC Perfume! If Alexander would just acknowledge this marriage publicly, I wouldn't need to beg anyone for cooperation!"
"Charles, give her a little more time," Linda said hurriedly, trying to shield Emily.
His voice turned cold. "I've given you time. But don't screw this up. You should remember—the marriage with Alexander wasn't meant to be yours in the first place. I stole that chance f
Both Linda and Emily's faces turned pale.
With the Sullivan family's status, they weren't even close to being worthy of the elite Ford family—let alone marrying Alexander Ford, the head of the household.
Everything had changed because of a jade pendant.
But that pendant hadn't belonged to Emily.
It had belonged to… Clara.
…
Clara had just returned to Imperial Garden when Emily followed close behind.
"Clara, go take a shower and get into my husband's bed tonight."
Clara paused in her tracks. "Why?"
"You're sleeping with Alexander again."
She had thought that one night would be enough. But now Emily wanted her to keep going?
Every night?
"Clara, why are you just standing there? I told you to go. Don't forget—your grandmother is still under my control," Emily said, voice sharp with threat.
At the mention of her grandmother, Clara's eyes dimmed, but then a sly smile played at her lips. "Alright. Alexander's arms are so strong and warm—I'll sleep in them for you again tonight."
"…"
Emily dug her fingernails into her palm, her expression contorted with jealousy. She was officially Mrs. Ford, yet she had never once slept in Alexander's arms!
…
Clara took a hot shower, changed into fresh clothes, and went into the master bedroom. She crawled into the soft bed, feeling both nervous and exhausted.
Alexander wasn't home yet—he must still be at the office, working late as usual.
She leaned against the pillows and closed her eyes.
Soon, two bright headlights swept across the front lawn. A car engine shut off. Alexander had returned.
He walked up the stairs and opened the bedroom door. The girl in bed was already fast asleep.
He took off his suit jacket and tossed it over the armchair, then stepped into the bathroom to shower.
Cold water splashed down over his sculpted frame, tracing the defined muscles of his shoulders and torso. As the water ran down, his mind drifted involuntarily to that scarred little face.
She had completely ignored his warning and fallen in love with his nephew.
Was she planning to seduce him the same way she had done to others?
How many men had she entangled herself with?
How filthy was her body?
