The Billionaire’s Secret Bride

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Almost Discovered

Sophie could barely breathe. Was shouting contagious now? Because right now, she wanted nothing more than to strangle Jason Fu.

She quickly ducked behind him, doing her best to hide her face from Nathan Fu."Jason, please. Don't tell anyone what I really look like—especially not your uncle."

"Why not?" Jason asked, clearly confused."It's… complicated. Please, I'm asking you—keep this a secret for me."

Seeing the seriousness in her expression, Jason nodded."Alright, I'll keep your secret. But only if you promise me something in return."

"What is it?" Sophie asked, dreading the answer."Be my girlfriend," Jason grinned.

This guy… really knew how to take advantage of a situation.

"No, Jason. I've already told you—I don't like you. Please don't waste your time," she said firmly.

"Then at least give me a chance. One month. You'll be my girlfriend for just one month, and if by the end of that you still don't like me, I'll back off. I swear."

She didn't even have time to argue. Because Nathan Fu was walking toward them now, his long strides closing the distance quickly.

She had no choice.

"Fine," she said through clenched teeth. "I agree. I'll… go fix my makeup."

With that, Sophie turned and bolted.

Nathan reached them just as she disappeared around the corner. He glanced in her direction with a faint frown tugging at his lips."Jason, what were you yelling about? I thought I heard you call me over to see Sophie's face. What's going on?"

"Oh yeah, Uncle," Jason said, laughing awkwardly. "I was gonna show you how ugly she looked today. Honestly, I think she might be even uglier than yesterday. Crazy, right?" He laughed loudly.

Around the corner, Sophie could only shake her head. You're welcome, you jerk.

Then Jason called out, "Harley Quinn! Come back here! Uncle, I'm officially announcing that she's my girlfriend now. She said yes!"

Nathan's sharp gaze immediately locked onto Sophie, cold and penetrating like a blade.Great, Sophie thought bitterly. I just got out of his bed this morning, and now I'm suddenly dating his nephew? No wonder he looks like I've slapped him in the face.

"President Fu," Secretary Song interjected quietly, "The board meeting starts in thirty minutes. We should head back to the office."

Nathan's eyes lingered on Sophie for a moment longer before he turned and walked away.

Only after his departure did Sophie feel her shoulders relax.

Jason turned to her with a proud grin."See? I'm totally loyal. I didn't expose your secret. Now, how about a celebratory date? Let's catch a movie tonight—my treat."

"No, Jason. I don't want to watch a movie. I've got things to do." She brushed past him and walked away.

Just as she left, her phone rang—her mother was calling.

Sophie answered quickly, "Hello?"

"Sophie Carter, come home immediately!" Linda Carter barked before hanging up.

Sophie sighed and caught a cab to the Carter estate.

As soon as she stepped into the living room, she heard sobbing."Mom, look! This is the text Sophie sent me. She deliberately told me to go to Room 809 so that Quentin Sun could assault me!" Emily Carter cried.

She was disheveled and bruised, looking pitiful as she clung to their mother.

Linda rushed to comfort her daughter, fury written all over her face. When she saw Sophie step inside, she stormed up to her."Sophie, how could you be so calculating? So cruel? You set your own sister up to be hurt by Quentin Sun. Do you have any idea who he is?!"

Sophie stood in the center of the living room, calm and collected. She looked up at her mother with a faint smile."Oh? So, you do know who Quentin Sun is. And here I was thinking you didn't."
