The Beast Tamer Is A Slime

Chapter 17: “Picking A New Skill”

Neo shrugged and lied without batting an eyelid.

[Anyway, don't other dungeon bosses also awaken some strange talents? It's normal! How could you not know about this common knowledge?]

Neo quickly gaslighted John and blamed the hooman for their lack of knowledge about the dungeon beasts.

John was hit dizzy with all these "facts" and it took him a few minutes to calm down.

This man was worthy to be the strongest among the other six hunters.

His psychological quality was good, and he managed to sort out his messy thoughts in just a few minutes.

John slowly breathed in and out before he looked at Neo with a stern face.

[Okay, I don't care why you chose me, why you are so different from other slimes and why you're so smart...]

The man paused before speaking with gritted teeth, even though he was talking straight to Neo's mind.

[I just want to know whether this contracted beast status will affect me in a negative way!]

For example, his master would use him as a meat shield or be like a vampire, sucking his hard-earned rank and so on.

The [Beast Tamer] talent was rare, and there all lived in other World Districts.

As far as John knew, there was no one in World Districts 9 who awakened as a [Beast Tamer] either.

Thus, it was normal that John knew too little about this awakened talent and was wary of anything related to it.

Neo calmly looked at John with a serious face even when his face was too funny to look serious.

[As your master, I am the person who least wants to see you die in this world.]

Neo quickly told John about the backlash that a beast tamer would suffer if their contracted beast died.

There was also a passive skill [Sharing Weal and Woe], the only Legendary-level skill belonging to a beast tamer that forced these tamers to treat their beast like their own ancestors.

[If you level up, I'll also get stronger. If you die, I will also suffer.]

Neo let out a sigh and spoke with a voice full of sincerity.

[That's why, I'll never harm you. I will even want to support you so that you can quickly upgrade to an E-rank hunter!]

John listened to Neo's explanation and found that it was reasonable, not a mindless lie.

Since Neo didn't want to harm him and would even benefit if he got stronger, there was no necessary conflict between the two.

At worst, he had to obey Neo's command and never betray him— he couldn't betray the slime even if he wanted to.

After weighting the pros and cons, John quickly accepted his fate and even tried to negotiate terms with his new master.

[Can I not call you master? Also, can we pretend that you're not my master? I know you don't want to attract people's attention.]

If news got out that a slime awakened as a beast tamer, those elite beast tamers would scramble to hunt Neo to the end of the world.

Even if one of Neo's [Beast Tamer] talent's personal skills was a Legendary-level skill [The Untamed], if the opponent was a rank higher than Neo...

This Legendary-level passive skill would also be useless.

That's why, Neo could only continue to level up while remaining low-key.

John, the man who looked simple-minded, actually thought a lot and quickly grabbed Neo's weak points.

But Neo wasn't angry at all.

He also wished that people would misunderstand, thinking that he was John's pet instead of his master.

[Okay, deal! I will pretend to be your pet so you can keep your dignity.]

Neo snapped his tiny jelly fingers and concluded the negotiation with a firm attitude.

[In exchange, you will have to follow me everywhere with no complaints!]

Neo told John about his plan to go to higher-level dungeons and strive to level up, so John had to leave everything behind, including his family and friends, to follow him.

John was silent for a moment but quickly agreed.

Anyway, sooner or later, he would have to leave World District 9 and go to World Districts 8 as an E-rank hunter.

The two sides, one human and one slime, quietly finished their negotiation and acted as if nothing happened.

At the same time, Neo shared his system panel vision with John, and together, they read John's various skills listed on the system.

As the master, Neo had full control over his "beast", including the skills they owned and everything else.

Neo wasn't surprised to see that John's various skills were all meant to protect people because his awakened talent was [The Protector], but he couldn't help but be attracted to a certain skill.

[ What is this skill called [Attack Is The Best Defense]? ]

This one skill sounded like the only offensive-type skill that John owned.

John didn't even look awkward when Neo blatantly spied on his various skills and body data.

He calmly explained the benefit of the skill and even actively suggested Neo to grab the skill.

[Since your offensive skills as a slime are not that good, this skill may be able to offset your weakness.]

John knew from Neo that a beast tamer had another unique skill belonging to their talent class.

It was called [Borrowing For Eternity], an S-level skill.

The beast tamer could "copy" one of their contracted beast's skills, excluding the beast's personal skill.

All other restrictions followed the rules of the original skill.

John didn't know what would happen if his master, the little slime died, but if the tamed beast would die when the beast tamer died...

John wished that he could arm the fragile little slime from head to toe!

The first step to protect the ancestor was to let him copy a good offensive skill.

And Neo was also thoughtful.

This copied skill shouldn't be nerfed like the [Slime Transformation] skill, right?

Since John suggested picking [Attack Is The Best Defense] skill, Neo wasn't polite to him and immediately tried to grab the skill.
