The Asshai's Bloodmage

Chapter 9: Movement of the powerful part 2

Omar was standing in a completely luxurious living room, he didn't even dare to sit down since this was his father Lord Léo Velaryon's mansion. This was also the first time he had enough courage to go after his father and ask him for something, he always thought he had no right to ask for anything more, as if what he received was already more than enough and it could even be considered ungrateful of him to demand more... But since he was in debt to Rafa this time, he had no choice, those bastards tried to kill him because of me, and I feel like I have to believe what he's saying.

The possibility that his friend just wanted to run away quickly crossed my mind, but his desperation to get a lot of money without worrying about paying it back shows the opposite of a man who just wants to survive. In the worst case scenario, I can simply get part of the money from his loans from my old man or stay in debt for a long time... The sound of footsteps catches my attention and I see my father coming down the stairs from the second floor of the mansion, his appearance almost a copy of mine only older and more intimidating. He looks at me with a bit of surprise, as if he still can't believe I'm really here looking for him. After sitting down on the main sofa in the living room, he looks at me and says:

"Sit down... You've never looked for me before, I was a bit surprised. Have you gotten into any trouble?"

I sit down, still a bit uncomfortable, and begin:

"No serious problem, I know I shouldn't ask you for much since you always help me, but recently I decided to leave the city, a friend and I are going to buy a ship and try to make our fortune at sea..."

He looks at me seriously and says nothing. His silence remains after I finish speaking for more than a minute and I speak again:

"If you can't give me the money, I can accept a loan, I promise to pay everything back, even with interest if necessary."

"Why do you want to leave? Have these rumors about your sisters caused you any problems?"

—No, not really, I've decided it's better for the family's well-being that a bastard like me leaves and lives a life far away from here.

"NONSENSE!"

"Leaving aside your sword training, which you haven't attended for over a month, do you think I don't know how you brag about being a Velaryon in taverns and brothels? Just yesterday I received a report of you taking three girls home at once. Aren't you living more and more exaggeratedly every day? Do you want me to believe that after sleeping with those three, some kind of filial conscience was born in you overnight? Tell the truth or don't expect to receive a single copper from me."

The accusatory questions spoken in a loud and harsh tone leave me completely speechless. I never thought my old man would watch me so closely. I feel ashamed of my lewd behavior, and guilty for being such an idiot for drinking and saying things I shouldn't say in public places, which makes me blush with shame and lower my head, looking at the floor before I start talking and 'spilling all the beans'¹. The only thing left out is the fact that Rafa also had visions, but knowing that my father is much wiser than me, he must realize what I realized when Rafa told everything in front of Liza. At the end, I still add my concern for him and my sisters and say that even if he doesn't believe me, he should still stay away from our homeland for a few days. My father makes a familiar gesture of stroking his chin over his beard, something I also do often unconsciously, before taking a piece of paper from the dresser next to the sofa and starting to write some things down.

As he writes, he shouts the name Tom out loud, Tom is the butler who always gives me my allowance and I always see him watching me during sword training, he is old, but quite robust. He hurriedly comes down the stairs after my father calls him, walks towards him and after approaching he receives the paper my father was writing and goes back up the stairs. He returns about ten minutes later carrying a medium-sized trunk with both hands and places it in front of my father. My father opens the trunk and takes out a bag made of black fabric with golden threads and places it on the table in front of him and says:

"Here, take this."

As I approach and take the black cloth bag I feel that it is cold to the touch, I try to look to see if there is something inside that makes it so cold, but I find nothing. My father then continues:

"This is a shadow bag made by shadowbinders in Asshai. It allows you to store items several times larger than the bag itself. You can drop a drop of blood into it to create a permanent bond. This bond prohibits anyone other than you from opening the bag."

As I proceed to drop a drop of blood into the bag and try to understand how it works, he goes back to taking out other items; the first is a gold bar, the second another small chest and the last item is a sword.

"This gold bar can be easily exchanged for up to 100 gold coins, you can use it to buy a good ship, its crew and even the first cargo. This small chest itself is a relic, inside contains several rare gems and some jewels, its total value can vary between 75 or even 150 gold coins depending on the place you trade. And lastly, this Valyrian Steel sword was obtained by me after accepting to serve one of the 39 remaining families. Its name is Sea Cutter. With the exception of the chest, all of these items were prepared as gifts for when you mastered the sword completely, but it seems that you will finish your training in practice across the seas."

My mouth is still open admiring the magic bag that I had only heard about before. Inside the space I see is equivalent to a two-door closet as tall as me where I can easily store several items weighing a few times my own weight! Before I can close my mouth, he surprises me again by showing me the gold bar that represents much more than 1 year of allowance. When the chest, worth even more than the gold bar, appears, I wonder if I am not really his legitimate son! But when he takes out the Valyrian Steel sword, my heart almost stops. This is one of the most valuable items in all of Valyria! Even with all the money, rich merchants can only dream of having one! When he says that it was prepared as a coming-of-age gift for me, and I didn't receive it due to my own stupidity, I feel like slapping my own face! I quickly kneel down with tears in my eyes and say:

—Father, this unworthy son of yours... You value him too much, I don't deserve this...

Tom, who is watching the scene that should be touching, almost spits blood when he sees the smooth-faced boy say he is unworthy of the gifts, but at the same time quickly puts them all away in his new bag as if he is afraid that Lord Leo will take them back. Meanwhile, Lord Leo almost bursts out laughing when he sees the boy's act, but he holds himself back and says:

"You better know how disappointed I am in you. From now on, I give you permission to use our family name while you're at sea, but don't you dare embarrass us again. Now go away before I change my mind and take the things I gave you."

Omar nods a few more times as he walks backwards and praises his father in every way and all his greatness and generosity. He reminds his father one last time not to take too long before leaving the city for a few days and also taking his valuables with him. Tom, who arrived later in the conversation, can't understand what Omar is talking about before opening and closing the door for the recent guest. As soon as the door closes and he returns to his lord, Lord Leo begins to give several orders:

"Tom, have my carriage prepared. I need to go to the bank. While you're doing that, call my daughters to come see me immediately!" After that, send a message to Sir Arthur, and tell him to gather his old companions who have retired and are still alive. I want him to accompany Omar on his first trip to sea and finish his sword training, as well as train him in naval battles and strategy. After sending the message, tell my trusted men and knights that in 3 days they will escort my family during a tour of my summer island. Their families can also go on board to enjoy the tour without worrying about expenses. Make sure that the Golden Kraken and the other ships in my fleet are fully stocked with supplies for a long voyage.

Old Tom almost thinks about writing down all the orders due to the enormous amount of movement and logistics his lord plans to do, but before leaving he asks:

"Sir, are you sure about the sword? That was the only one your fourth family had. When the girls find out, they will be furious... You know how much they hate the boy."

"What is the reason for having doubts?" I am old and will not have any more children, Omar is my only son. If I leave the Sea Cutter to one of them, it will end up in the hands of one of my brothers or nephews, so it is not a difficult choice for me to make this final decision. Now go ahead, I want most of the things I asked of you to be completed today.

The old man nods and leaves with hurried steps, less than 20 minutes later the two daughters arrive, Lord Leo informs them about the trip in the next few days and gives them precise instructions to collect the contents of all the family safes discreetly and move them to the Golden Kraken's safe. In addition, he asked them to collect all the debts even if they give up all the interest they would receive. The two questioned him about his attitude, but Lord Leo quickly dismissed them and headed towards the carriage that already awaited him, his destination also being the Valyrian Bank.
