The Apocalyptic Command: A Military Isekai LitRPG

Chapter 63: New Addition

Quagmire, with the wolf cub firmly placed on his chest, which awfully seemed to have fallen asleep. With every passing second, a cloud of breath escapes from the heavy breathing he was all doing. It was quite the struggle, and it almost seemed like he would not be able to make it. Which led to his current situation, as this would be the first time he was able to push his body to the current limit, which thankfully, he discovered much earlier. If this happened at a later date, the risk increases, and he might not be as lucky today.

With that in mind, he decided to push those kinds of matters to the back of his mind. In the meantime, as he was kilometers from his base, he decided to rest. Glancing from left to right, he then turned towards the skies and into the cosmos. It seems that a few minutes or hours are left until his sons are out and he would need to start cooking, yet for the meantime, he would need to do those for himself and for the cub before him.

He gently grabbed the cub from his pocket chest and laid it down the ground in front of him. The wolf cub whimpered in pain as it is currently injured with wounds from left to right and all over its body. It must have been an animal that was wandering around those parts when the ground collapsed. Luckily the wolf cub was not buried alive and was left to relatively exposed, though the same cannot be said for those parts that weren't exposed.

Nevertheless, Quagmire expertly and efficiently applied medicines and ointment on the affected areas and properly gave first aid and the application of bandages that were wrapped all over its affected body. Almost after the treatment the wolf cub audibly lost its whimper and was relatively more calm than the situation it was in earlier. It now was laying down beside him, all the while staring at Quagmire, as if observing his next steps. It was such a curious wolf cub.

Quagmire then brought out his cooking utensils, and tried to look for the perfect rock he could find. He cleaned then seasoned the rock and with a spark from his firestarter opened up a fire. He let the rock to rise in temperature first, all the while he butcher the meat he brought earlier, not all, just some parts of it, so he could cook it and have some meal for himself and the wolf cub

Moreover, as he was butchering he started thinking up of a perfect name for the wolf cub, as it seemed that the wolf cub is now intent on following him and not only that, it did not show any hostilities before him, and seemed more inclined to be amicable before him. It seems that it would be a lot easier to tame the wolf cub, or if its possible the wider animal population of this world. Though that was just a wish in the star, this wolf cub he had might just really be an oddball. But that does not matter to him, as he would have his sons soon, and an animal he could bond with is a day less lonely under this world.

When a few moments passed by, under the watchful eye of the wolf cub, he was able to butcher parts of the cow and when he had enough and was able to drain the blood; he stashed the rest of the meat on his spatial inventory. Glancing over to his shoulder, he saw that the rock was now simmering with the oil he left on the top; it was crackling with sound as the moisture around it were being forced out.

Once he had stabilized the rock once again, he divided the chunk of meat into two smaller parts, as if he cooked it just like that, it come out unevenly cooked. So with such a large meat, he must be able to cook it properly and evenly, so both sides would taste great as always. After slicing it, he hovered his hand a the top of the hot rock, and when thought that it was good or hot enough, he placed the first slice into the rock.

The meat sizzled under the head, and a delicious aroma unheard of in the entire forest permeated all over it. The wolf cub was startled by the aroma, and stood up and started observing the meat that was being cooked, and changed his look to over Quagmire, Quagmire noticed this and glanced over him.

The wolf cub sat down, with its paws forward as if begging to be the first one on the line. Upon seeing it, Quagmire smiled and chuckled, then ruffled the wolf cubs head, all the while giving an affirmation. The meat sizzled a top the rock, its bright pink now turning slightly brown and into dark brown, its blood soon evaporating, its suffocating smell now turning into a symphony of different pleasant aromas, that seemed to massage his starving stomach.

A few moments passed by, and the first slice of meat was now finished. Quagmire brought out a giant leaf and laid the first meat there and gave it to his wolf cub. The meat arrived at the front of the wolf cub, but it did not start eating yet, it stood at the ready as if waiting for something. Meanwhile, quagmire watched, confused why his wolf cub was not eating, but then he suddenly remembered that he was about to give him a name.

Now, deep in thought, Quagmire chose the name Habagat for the wolf cub, as the wolf cub reminded him of one of those from his world mythology. Upon hearing the name that was given to him, the wolf cub stood up and looked over Quagmire, and he stared back. It felt like the wolf cub gave him a telepathic thumbs up.

Realizing what was happening, Quagmire smiled and said

"Good Boy! Now, go eat!" Quagmire said with a commanding tone

The wolf cub stood up and immediately started pouncing on the meat that was given in front of it. Quagmire smiled while looking over the oddball he had gotten, but that did not last long as he was now starving himself. He sacrificed his first piece to his wolf cub. Which it delightfully pounces on.

This is why the meat he was cooking was cooked at a higher temperature, so that it would cook faster. Rather than slow-cooking like last time, he intended to make this time faster, and of course, he did not forget to add more seasoning. He only added a few salts to his wolf cub, as he was not sure what the wolf cub would be able to take, but he did know that every living organism needs sodium intake to survive and to balance the chemicals and composition of cells inside its body.

Quagmire, after a few moments, flipped the meat with such precision and ferocity as had not been present earlier. The meat is taking a long time to cook, and he would very much like to eat now. With that in mind, he increased the temperature further, even though some periods or parts of the meat would be burnt, he did not care, as a slightly charred meat is still very much delicious in his opinion.

Upon the final flip, Quagmire looked at the meat, and determined if the temperature of the inside was good and hot, and glanced at the color, and was ultimately satisfied by what had. He brought out his luggage and grabbed hold of his canteen. he took a few sips and placed the meat in the middle of his canteen box.

He placed his utensils at the top of the meat, and attempted to scar it, to his delight, it sounded very crispy and soft at the same time. With that in mind, he delightfully placed the first piece and chewed on it. It was very delicious, and with it, he was very satisfied.

Quagmire then savored his food, for the next moments he just ate, and soon enough he was done, even Habagat was now lying down with a satisfied smile on its face. With a satisfied smile, he brought up his canteen and took a few sips.

He was now full, and after a few minutes of rest, he would be able to return to his base, and looking over the sun and silhouettes from the sky, he only had at most an entire hour or half an hour to return. Thus, in order to be able to move properly in optimal capacity, he brought the time he had left to rest for a few more moments, and once he was done, he picked up his garbage and placed it in the spatial inventory to be disposed of later.

Then with a swift movement, he placed back what he borrowed from the chairs to the stones, then left without much of a fuss.
