The Apocalyptic Command: A Military Isekai LitRPG

Chapter 50: Standardization of the First Firearms

Quagmire glances from left to right, looking all over the facility, and when his eyes landed on the tablet near the systems of conveyor belts, he moved towards it. With firm and heavy steps, he walked and wondered what kind of caliber he would be mass-produced; he could not make it too cheap as it would risk the penetrating power and its stopping power against larger ghouls like fat men. Thus, it must have a reasonable enough caliber but also enough firepower to eliminate most ghouls that he could possibly encounter on the way.

With that goal firmly set in his mind, he arrived at the counter where the customization for products or any kind of resources like military supplies could be refitted for new additions or set for removal.

With his uniform glistening, blade on his sides, and pistol holstered, he stepped forward and started typing on the console of the counter. First, it verified his identity, and when it was done, Quagmire was able to pull up a list of things that he could implement as a retrofit. Not minding those things he pulled up the blueprint of his Mark 1 Bolt-Action Rifle and started modifying it so that his rifle and pistol would use a single caliber.

He pulled up numerous calibers he remembered, from really old calibers to the newest type calibers. There was the point forty-five to seventy caliber, which was pretty old and was made over two hundred years ago by the Imperial Republic. There was the point two hundred eighty caliber that was widely used by hunters in the past, but its accuracy is questionable. There was also the caliber point thirty and point three hundred-three, which is a certified classic for hunters, but there was a reason it was phased out. Because it was not that powerful, and there were better alternatives.

After adding and removing calibers, he was finally left with two calibers. Both are modern, just less than a hundred years old. Unfortunately, it was not made in the Imperial Republic. Rather, it was a communist invention.

After brutally overthrowing their monarchy, they since then have pursued a policy of scientific humanism and banned all forms of religion. They are known as the Eastern West Commune. They do not have a name, nor do they honor their past; they believe they are just a part of the world revolution, so they are nothing more than a front for global unification.

Quagmire, thinking about the world he once lived in, gives him goosebumps. Such radical ideologies were rising all over the world, and he wanted no part in it; he did not want the violent overthrow of his monarch or the dissolution of a nation-state. He rejects atheism and any form of moral degeneration. He disapproves of the class society; he rejects the communards but reprimands the top for provoking such conflict, especially in a society where the divide is taking place. He was the middle class, stuck in the middle, being forced to choose a side, and he absolutely hated it.

Now, pushing back those thoughts in mind, the caliber that he is thinking of is the seven-point sixty-two-times thirty-two-millimeter caliber made by Eastern West Communards. It's good for long-range fighting and is made to be sure to pack a punch when it hits a foe.

Then, finally, there was the five-point fifty-six times forty-five millimeter. It has good accuracy and is the standard for most countries in the world, but it lacks firepower and lethality, though it allows soldiers to carry more ammunition due to it being of a lower caliber. It was also much easier to handle than the caliber seven-point sixty-two times, thirty-two millimeters.

Quagmire glances back and forth, seemingly having a hard time choosing. He needs to have soldiers have more ammunition, but they would lack the lethality to overpower their foes. But having the larger caliber, their accuracy would suffer, and it would be much harder to control the rifle in a sustained conflict, as the recoil would be suffering, meaning the soldier would find it hard. Should it be this or that? He was having a hard time.

When he finally chose, he chose the caliber seven point sixty-two times, thirty-two millimeters. The reason is he would not have much sustained conflict, as he is fighting against ghouls, not humans; accuracy for far away would not matter much yet, as he is fighting ghouls at most at medium and short range. In the end, accuracy and ease of handling are not the highest priorities right now; what they need is the lethality of the bullet. Especially when fighting against tanky opponents such as the fat man, where the caliber of his pistol did not even scratch and pierce, and he was forced to use his rifle.

With that in mind, he started making the proper modifications for both the pistol and his rifle, though it's a good thing he does not need to modify his silencer, as his silencer could already be modified by its user. That is why it is a variable silencer; it fits many calibers and can be adjusted; thankfully, his caliber can be silenced by it.

With a swift clicking and clacking of buttons, the sound and humming of machinery in the background as the manufacturing of droids starts, and with a final click and a final round of checking, he was able to finish it. Soon the Mark 2 Bolt-Action Rifle and Mark 2 Pistol could be manufactured at a later date when there are enough resources to do so.

With that completed, Quagmire breathed a sigh of relief as he looked over to his surroundings, with the standardization now completed. He could finally rest in peace and wait for the cloning facility to start the cloning process.

Whenever he needed to update the weapons, he would just use the current rifle and weapons as a base for further upgrades, as his firearms would now use a single caliber, making manufacturing faster and more efficient, wasting no time in creating duplicate production lines.
