Chapter 8: CHAPTER 8
Augustus stared her down very intimidatingly, and she was clearly shifting on both feet. But she didn't avoid eye contact with him or back down. If anything, she was smiling at him in a pissed-off manner.
The edge of his lips dipped, amused. Very subtly, blink and you'd miss it.
"You're right, sir. That was very bothersome of me." He gestured to the hallway ahead of them. "Shall we?"
Alexis furrowed her brows but followed after him, making her way out of the hall. They arrived at the gate, and he asked, "Would you like me to drive you to your—"
"No." Alexis immediately shook her head, cutting him off. She smiled awkwardly at him, waving her hands in decline. "I can go by myself."
She didn't wait for a response from him, leaving and running over to where she had tossed her bike aside. She hopped on and began riding off and Augustus who watched, arched a brow, shoving his hand into his pocket to take out his phone.
"Sir?"
"Has he left?"
"Yes."
"I want you to follow her—him and find out where he is heading. You have thirty minutes, Augustus. Report back to me after."
Augustus pulled the phone away from his ear to blink at the screen. He was confused. What was his sudden relationship with the beta?
He asked, "Sir…Is there a problem? Why do I—"
"You seem to ask too many questions, all of a sudden, Augustus," Keelion said cuttingly. "I'll let it slide this time, but don't ever question me again when I give you orders, am I clear?"
He flinched even though the man wasn't even standing in front of him, nodding. "Yes, sir. My apologies. I didn't mean—"
The call ended, his words shoved back down his throat.
He stood stiff for a few seconds before relaxing and breathing out. Keelion may be the alpha, but the man was dangerous. Too dangerous…
He turned, stalking back in towards the BMW parked among other brands of cars in the parking lot.

Her father's manor came into view, and the closer she got, Alexis hopped off the bike, leaving it on the floor. She rushed towards her mother, who was banging on the gate, begging, "Adolf, you have to find my daughter, please! I'm begging you!"
"Mom!" she shouted.
Eleni froze at the sound of her voice and quickly turned, eyes growing wide at the sight of her daughter running towards her.
"Mom." Alexis sprung into her arms, hugging her, and she broke down, caressing her short curls.
"Where have you been?" she asked. "I told you not to go there, that it was a bad idea. You don't—you don't listen to me, Alexis! I was worried, I thought something—"
"I'm okay, Mom, I'm really okay."
Eleni sniffled, pulling back from the hug to examine her all over. "What happened, Alexis? D-did anyone find out? Why was your father so angry? Did you do something wrong?"
Alexis stiffened like a statue at her questions.
She noticed and pressed, "Tell me the truth. What happened at that gala?"
Silence.
"Alexis…" She frowned at her. "Tell me the truth, please."
Alexis shakily met her eyes. "No one…found out. But he knows…"
"Who?" Eleni asked. "Who knows?"
"The alpha…"
Heavy silence fell between both mother and daughter, and for a second she wanted to assume that Alexis was joking, but she saw no trace of amusement on her face.
"You're not…joking?"
Alexis shook her head.
The woman's face paled. "The alpha…as in, K-keelion Fane? The…Alpha?"
She nodded, and Eleni visibly shook in pure fear. "No, no, no. We have to run, Alexis, we need to leave immediately." She grasped her hand, pulling her along with her, toward their belongings that were still left outside.
But Alexis snatched her hand back, shaking her head at her. "We can't leave."
"Are you crazy? What do you mean by that?!" Eleni snapped at her. "Do you want to stay here and get killed? Paraded as an outcast, the first of its kind—is that what you want?"
"Of course not, but you have to listen to me." She grabbed her, stopping her. "Mom, Keelion knows that I'm an outcast, but he's not going to hurt me, and he's also not going to tell anyone what I am."
The woman was taken aback.
She asked, "And you believe it…? You believe that an alpha, the leader of our pack, will keep you safe, that he wouldn't kill you, despite being an outcast?"
Alexis nodded at her with every sense of assurance evident on her face. "He won't, because…" She bared her neck, showing her the mating mark.
Eleni's eyes grew wide, lashes fluttering. "He-he marked you?" Come to think of it, amidst all this, she'd been wondering why she had some sort of scent lingering on her as if someone had imprinted on her.
But why would the alpha imprint on her daughter? Nothing was making sense to her.
"Alexis, only mates imprint on the other… Why would the alpha imprint on you? Are you—"
"I can't explain now. I barely have one hour."
"What does that mean?"
"I need to speak to father," Alexis said, grabbing her hand and walking to the gate to get into the compound.
"Alexis, your father—"
"He has to let you stay, Mom. There is nowhere else you can go. "
"For goodness sake, can you explain things to me!" The more vague her words were, the more the woman grew frustrated. "Explain things to me! I don't understand anything. Alexis—"
Her words were cut off once Alexis began pleading with one of the guards who eventually relented and let them into the compound, the gate shut.
At a not very far distance, a car was parked off the road, eyes fixated on Adolf Ruderth's home. The man, inside the car, Augustus, plucked his phone out of the pocket of his suit, making a call.
"Sir, he stopped at Adolf Ruderth's manor."
"Adolf Ruderth?" The voice belonged to Keelion.
"Yes, sir. I think Ruderth is his father. The woman who I'd reported earlier about was with him. She must be his mother…too."
