Chapter 26: The Enigma of Lord Leopard
By now, the forum had erupted into chaos.
Wu Hao and Zhao Feifei had posted the surveillance video provided by Ji Chuxing. The footage was crystal clear: two boys from Qihang Class ran into some vocational school students in an alley. At first, both sides were minding their own business. But trouble started when the two boys decided to taunt the others with verbal jabs.
They began by mocking them as useless trash.
Then they went further, hurling insults at their parents and ancestors.
With such arrogance and disdainful glares, who could possibly stay calm?
If those two hadn't been beaten until their mothers wouldn't recognize them, it would've been shocking.
The tables turned completely. Comments that had previously attacked Ji Chuxing now shifted to the two instigators. In the video, the other side even issued a threat: anyone from Nan Yi High School they met in the future would get beaten up.
"This mess is all their own doing. Ridiculous—why blame Ji Chuxing?"
"People who promised to eat crap on live stream? Screenshots are saved. Time to pay up."
"Ji Chuxing sure has bad luck."
"Even if it wasn't because of her this time, the photos in the post weren't wrong. She's involved with thugs. If not this time, then next time for sure."
"What's wrong with you? Why keep dragging Ji Chuxing into this?"
Ji Chuxing didn't have a phone and paid no attention to the keyboard warriors. She had bigger things to worry about. Meanwhile, Zhao Feifei and Wu Hao were more invested in the situation and went straight to confront the troublemakers. They hadn't forgotten about the live stream challenge either.
Ji Chuxing stepped out. She needed supplies for the task she'd taken on earlier. Since what she needed was hard to find in regular stores, she decided to try her luck at the underground casino that night.
The resource network's account upgrade system was infuriating. To move from a basic account to intermediate, she had to complete 5,000 basic tasks and accumulate enough points. At her pace of two tasks per minute, it would take over forty hours.
As she chewed on a milk tablet, frustration made the little tuft of hair on her head stand up again. It was still early morning, and the same alley remained deserted. Ji Chuxing felt something blocking her view and looked up to see seven or eight rough-looking men standing in front of her.
She held the straps of her black backpack, appearing docile, and finished chewing the last bit of her milk tablet. With a blank expression, she said, "You're in my way."
"Hmph, not bad. Did you beat up Zheng Kuan?" one of them sneered.
Each of them carried sticks. Ji Chuxing, expressionless, replied, "Yeah, so what?"
Her cold demeanor sent chills down their spines. "Got guts, huh? Do you know who Zheng Kuan is? He's the godson of Boss Leopard. Ask around—no one dares to cross him on South Street."
Ji Chuxing: "Boss Leopard? Never heard of him. Don't care."
Her words changed the atmosphere instantly. The men stared at her in disbelief, then anger. Clearly, she wasn't planning to leave the alley alive today!
Outside the alley, Wen Xinyue and Mo Xue'er walked by. Mo Xue'er was still fuming about the forum incident. She had commented anonymously, saying she'd eat dirt live if the matter wasn't related to Ji Chuxing. Now, it turned out to be true, though no one knew it was her.
She seethed, "Ji Chuxing got lucky this time, but she won't be so fortunate next time. Xinyue, what's her deal with those thugs? Her private life is such a mess—it's disgusting."
Wen Xinyue frowned, her tone sharp: "I don't know, and I don't want to hear about her."
She hated when people brought up Ji Chuxing in front of her. Just as she finished speaking, Mo Xue'er tugged her sleeve. "Look!"
Wen Xinyue stopped and glanced into the alley, where she saw Ji Chuxing surrounded by menacing figures. Her face paled.
Mo Xue'er whispered, "Serves her right. She must've provoked someone again."
Her voice was low, but Ji Chuxing happened to glance over, locking eyes with her. Both Wen Xinyue and Mo Xue'er froze, then hurriedly left without another thought.
After a few steps, Mo Xue'er snapped out of it. "What was I scared of?"
"Xinyue, should we…?"
"Miss," the Wen family driver called out, seeing them.
Wen Xinyue told Mo Xue'er, "Stay out of it. Call the police if you must."
She spoke as if she didn't know the person being attacked was Ji Chuxing. Turning to the driver, she said, "Let's go, Uncle. Mom's waiting for me at home."
Mo Xue'er watched Wen Xinyue's car drive away. She stood there for a while, considering going back to record a video but shivered at the memory of the men's menacing looks. She decided against it and didn't mention the incident to anyone.
Call the police?
Hmph, who would call the police? She hadn't seen anything, and who goes to such deserted places anyway?
Ji Chuxing casually glanced toward the alley entrance. These men seemed tougher than Zheng Kuan, but it would only take a couple more minutes. She was about to put down her backpack when a cocky laugh echoed through the alley: "What kind of fight doesn't involve your Lu Young Master? Picking on a girl? Pathetic cowards!"
It was Lu Xing.
Ji Chuxing: "..."
Though alone, Lu Xing acted like he could take on everyone there with one finger. His words ignited the group's fury.
The closest man swung his stick at him. Lu Xing instinctively blocked it and shouted at Ji Chuxing, "Run, you idiot!"
Lu Xing could hold his own in a fight, but he always ended up injured when facing Zheng Kuan. The two were evenly matched and no match for these guys. Besides, Lu Xing wasn't as capable as he pretended.
Ji Chuxing, annoyed, dropped her backpack. After he blocked one hit and took another, she kicked one of the men aside. Swiftly, she grabbed Lu Xing, flung him against the wall, and threw her backpack at him. Then she kicked the man who had hit him, sending him flying three meters away.
Her movements were precise and powerful, her long hair whipping through the air, exuding a formidable aura.
"Damn!" Lu Xing was stunned and excited. This skill—what chance did he have to play the hero and save face? He had saved nothing, and his dignity was trampled.
Lu Xing was thoroughly shocked, ignoring the pain in his shoulder. This skill—he was just a nobody! There was no denying it.
Ji Chuxing moved too fast, striking vital points with every move. In no time, seven or eight men lay on the ground, with only Ji Chuxing standing—and Lu Xing crouched by the wall.
Ji Chuxing turned, reaching for her backpack, "Aren't you leaving?"
Just as she spoke, Lu Xing shouted, "Watch out!"
In an instant, he pulled her aside, blocking a steel bar aimed at her. Ji Chuxing reacted instantly, "Idiot!"
She kicked the attacker, who fell unconscious. But Lu Xing's arm was slashed by the steel bar.
A group rushed in, "Brother Lu! Ji Prodigy! Are you okay?"
Lu Xing, grimacing in pain, tried to stay cool, "I'm fine. Getting hurt in a fight is nothing new."
Ji Chuxing coldly ordered, "Shut up!"
Lu Xing immediately obeyed.
"Take him to the nearest hospital!"
Seeing the blood on Lu Xing's arm, the group panicked, carrying him out of the alley. Lu Xing's dignity was completely shattered.
