Chapter 10: Huge Elf Population

After all this time, things were starting to feel strange for Luke.

He was getting a little worried. Callum was nowhere to be found. Luke had sent him for a check-up because of the rustling he'd heard in the woods, and although it had been almost a couple of days since then, nothing had happened.

The rustling had not been heard again after all the expansion, nor had Callum returned after all this time.

A month had passed after all these days, and on the horizon, with a report from one of the women on guard on the wall, the elves were visible.

A large number of elves were travelling towards Luke's village.

Luke had left his manor to meet them and then walked through all the improvements he had made and all the buildings he had erected.

The huts he had built of wood not so long ago were now solid stone and white boards.

Not the whole village was like this, for it was more costly than it looked, but ten houses had been built in this way for the main inhabitants of the village, a population of forty-one.

The elves were already approaching the walls when Luke passed through the gateway of the village's massive walls with Kevin in tow.

Theodas was leading the group at the front, and everyone was moving together with a big smile. It was obvious that they had come here on foot. The endurance of the elves was indeed of a high degree. Even with a horse and cart, they had managed to make a fifteen-day journey on their feet.

When the large group of elves reached the entrance to the village, Theodas immediately fell to his knees and then handed Luke back the Hiera crest that Luke had handed to him.

After Luke took it from him, he put it in his inventory and then asked, 'How many of you are there?'

"Three hundred and twenty-four," Theodas replied.

When Luke heard these words, he said, "Well...Shit." and then turned around and started walking. The smile that appeared on Kevin's face with these words obviously made Theodas and the others very curious.

"Sir...what happened?" Theodas asked Kevin.

"It's just that there are more of you than we thought. His Majesty had not built enough houses. Please follow me." Kevin replied, and with that, over three hundred elves started to follow him.

As each of them entered the village, they were greeted by the villagers. Luke had made it clear to them that he was going to improve the village and that he wanted it to be a home for the orphaned and the left behind.

Of course, he would do this even if the villagers refused, but he wanted to at least hear their thoughts.

Of course, he had not expected them to accept the idea outright, or even to value Luke so much that they almost worshipped him.

The change had already begun, and three hundred and twenty-four elves had now joined.

After Kevin had taken the names and, if available, surnames of many of the elves, he had begun to place them one by one in the houses according to their family members.

However, after a short time, only a group of ninety elves were left homeless, and Luke's work began.

After Luke, with Kevin's help, had selected the areas on the sketches, melted the snow and realised that the ground was dry and ready for construction, he began to build the huts one by one.

Many of the last ninety people remaining were single occupants. At least that's how it was, according to Kevin's report to Luke and the new citizen documents.

Luke had managed to create forty more houses for the single elves, one after the other, giving the village a total of 183 houses and a mansion.

The population of the village was 365 people. Of course, with Callum, Kevin and Luke, there were 368 people.

However, when each elf was completely settled in their homes, Luke called Theodas and a few elven soldiers under his command.

Inside a large planning tent set up in the centre of the village, Luke was ready to give orders.

He knew they were all tired, so he didn't want to give them too much to do.

The only order he gave them was to clear the wooded areas around the village and remove everything down to the roots of the trees.

For nature-loving elves, this was partly a torture, but it was something that had to be done for the sake of safety.

After much discussion about how it would be done, the delivery of axes and other tools and so on, Luke told them that it would be finished tomorrow, and at that moment, a woman from the village entered the planning tent in the centre of the village and said, "Your Majesty! Mr Callum has returned."

Luke rushed out of the tent with great curiosity and saw Callum outside talking to the elves.

He was covered in blood, his exhaustion was evident in the bruises under his eyes and his armour, ruined by claws and other marks unknown to Luke, barely held together.

Callum looked like he'd been through hell.

"Callum!" Luke shouted very seriously.

When Callum heard his name being called, he instantly came to stand in front of Luke and immediately dropped to his knees and said, "Your commands, your majesty."

Luke grabbed him by the cheek, tugged him and then shouted, "Where have you been?!" He was seriously chastising Callum.

"Forgive me, your majesty, I've found some interesting things, I've found out where that rustling you hear is coming from and frankly, I've got a ton to tell you," Callum replied with a smile.

Luke shook his head from side to side and then said, "Go and have a shower, clean yourself up, warm yourself up and then come back."

Callum had disappeared as quickly as Luke had given the order, and Luke had returned to the tent and asked Theodas, "Have you been able to meet with the Imperial family?"

That was what he really wanted to know right now.
