Chapter 20: Naming The Ogres.
WHOSH.
After leaving the sight of the citizens of Dwargon, Henrik had used [Instant Motion] to teleport him and Kaijin back to The Great Lazek Kingdom. They appeared in his throne room and when arriving, they were greeted by Ranga and Veldora in an argument.
"But it's not fair. I completed all my tasks and Henrik promised I'd get manga if I didn't try to persuade you into giving it me early. Why can't I get it?"
"Because lord Veldora, master Henrik would be upset at me for giving you manga with what you did."
"What did he do?" Henrik interrupted and gained both of their attention. Veldora couldn't looked Henrik in the eyes out of knowing guilt and Ranga immediately dropped his head to the ground in submission and respect.
"Ranga, please don't bow to me," Henrik requested yet again, to which Ranga only bowed again and apologised profusely.
"We'll work on that later. So, Ranga, what did Veldora do that made you not give him the manga?"
Veldora tried to shoot Ranga a look that screamed 'Don't tell on me or else,' but one quick glance from Henrik made him fall in line. "Well Ranga," Henrik said clearly getting frustrated.
"Master. I beg your forgiveness. I failed you. You entrusted me to ensure Lord Veldora didn't destroy any of this beautiful land you made for us to all live happily together in," Ranga answered full of guilt.
"What did he destroy?"
"Well master. While I was visiting the graves of my fallen brethren, I returned to the castle, only to find Lord Veldora had made an absolute mess of his room. So I refused to give him manga until your return. I'm truly sorry master," Ranga whimpers.
Henrik, after hearing what Veldora did, sighed and sat on his throne. "Veldora. Do you have any idea how much effort and thought I put into your room? Desks to read manga, bookshelves the right size for manga, the second most comfortable bed in the castle to read manga. I even made your room exist in another dimension so no one could disturb your reading unless there was an emergency, or they wanted to join you in reading manga.
All that, and you ruined it on my first time away from the castle. I'm incredibly disappointed in you. Not angry, just disappointed," Henrik said which only made Veldora weep.
"I'm sorry Henrik, I just got too excited and forgot to hold in my aura. It won't happen again, please just don't take away my manga. I'm begging you."
"Relax you overgrown lizard," Henrik said in a joking tone, "Are you forgetting I promised someone to keep an eye on you. I won't take away the manga you've got. But you won't be receiving anymore until your room is fixed.
Now, I think we've been quite rude to our new friend. Ranga, Veldora. Meet Kaijin. He's a blacksmith that'll be living in the country from now on. I picked him up during my visit."
Kaijin, who was still getting used to the abrupt change in scenery from the teleportation, hadn't really registered what was going on, so he didn't know he was in a room with Veldora.
"Both of you, introduce yourselves to him."
Ranga, being the respectful one, went up to Kaijin and offered a paw to shake. "Hello. I'm Ranga, master Henrik's loyal mount and the leader of the Lazek wolves. It's a pleasure to meet you. And welcome to The Great Lazek Kingdom. If you think of betraying my master, you'll have to answer to me."
Kaijin, who'd now finally snapped out of his temporary daze, took the paw in front of him in hand and shook it. "Heya, I'm Kaijin. Nice to meet ya too. And I don't intend to betray anyone. I just want to set up my shop and get to work."
Kaijin then turned to the man standing not far from Ranga and offered out his hand.
"Heya. Nice to meet you, I'm Kaijin. And you are?"
The man simply looked at his hand and looked him back in the eyes.
"Veldora. Stay away from my manga if you aren't going to wash your hands and we'll be able to coexist."
Kaijin, after hearing Veldora introduce himself, was completely stunned. He'd heard all the stories of the Storm Dragon Veldora, but to be standing in front of him and not being killed. It was both thrilling and terrifying, after all, Kaijin was standing before a being who could kill him with a glance.
"Veldora," Henrik shouted from his throne, "Don't be so disrespectful. I thought you're meant to be one of the four True Dragons. Did he not teach you basic manners? Now, don't we know how to play nice?"
Veldora, worried Henrik would increase the duration of no manga past him cleaning his room, quickly put on a smile, grabbed Kaijin's hand and shook it so hard he was practically throwing Kaijin around him.
"HAHAHAHAHA. Greetings new friend. I'm the Storm Dragon Veldora. One of four only True Dragons in existence. I look forward to getting to know you in the future."
"That's better Veldora. I knew you weren't a lost cause in the manners department," Henrik said before turning to Ranga.
"Ranga, did Gobwa return with the ogres?"
"Yes master. They arrived not long after you departed for Dwargon. Since their arrival, we've shown them to the rooms you designated for each of them. We offered to participate and host activities until your return but they simply wished to train. Except a pink haired one, I think Gobwa really liked her. She played fetch with me and the other wolves, I too approve of the pink haired one."
"Haha, I'm glad to hear it my friend. I'll be sure to keep your and Gobwa's approval in mind when I speak to them. Although, I think your types of approval are different.
Now, I've kept them waiting long enough. Could you please show Kaijin around. And send them in with Rigurd. Since you're showing Kaijin around, help him find a free building that would serve him well as a new shop. And tell the others that I'm expecting another new member of our nation. Her name is Shizu Izawa. And she should be accompanied by a few children and maybe a man.
When they arrive, give them all a room in the castle and alert me."
"Yes master," Ranga said with a bow before guiding Kaijin out.
"Well, I'll be off. Got a room to clean," Veldora said before trying to leave but being stopped by Henrik speaking.
"Veldora, [Raphael] tells me you've been keeping up with you time speaking with Ifrit. Thanks for that. It's only been a few days but great progress has been made. And I think it'll be great for Shizu, to be able to talk to Ifrit without having to worry about it destroying things."
"Maybe. But if what Ifrit told me is true, it's responsible for killing her friend when she was a child. I don't see how she could ever speaking to it after that. I speak from experience. If I ran into one of the humans responsible for my brothers death, even after 2000 years, I'd rip them apart without having to think about it.
The thought of speaking to them, trying to hear them. It would sicken me. And I can't get sick."
"Yeah, maybe. But I don't want Shizu carrying this anger in her forever. Forgiveness isn't for the one you're forgiving, forgiveness is for the one doing the forgiving. And I don't think she wants her students seeing her like I did before.
She isn't their mother, and she'd never try to be. But they are her kids. That bond, that love she feels for them, well, that gives her a strength neither you nor I can understand. You should've seen how she got enraged when they were threatened.
A mother would rip apart the very fabric of reality for her children. And the only difference between a mother and a woman who loves their kids just as much is blood. Difference is, and the dangerous part, is that this woman does have the power to rip apart reality.
Imagine what Veldanava would've done if he was at full power and saw someone harm Milim. I truly don't know if there'd be a universe left."
"Probably. And I hope you're right. Because if Shizu can forgive Ifrit, maybe my sisters can forgive me and themselves. Maybe we can be finally be the family Veldanava wanted us to be."
"Him dying really changed you didn't it?"
"Yeah. You have no idea how much I adored him. He was my big brother, the strongest being of all. He just laughed when the eldest Primordial Daemon attacked him. And when he was preparing an attack, that Primordial surrendered. And he was kind, if there was a being that could string a thought together, Veldanava loved it.
I'll never be him, but I hope one day, even if at the end of time. I hope I don't be such a disappointment to him and he'll come back. Because I can fathom the idea of Velzard or Velgrynd dying, as unlikely as it is, it's not impossible. But even now, I can't accept our big brother is truly dead.
Not Veldanava."
"You know Veldora, I think people would be a lot less scared of you if you didn't only open up to me in private."
"What? Nah, I wouldn't even open up to you. But that pesky [Perversion] skill would just let you see the truth anyway. This way, you find out the truth on my terms. Plus, there's a tiny part of him in you. I can see it. Your desire for a peaceful world, your desire to see me peaceful and happy.
Only Veldanava ever looked at me with hope that I can be better. Plus, if I act all scary, people will stay away from my manga. Everyone wins."
After Veldora expressed his true reason for siding with Henrik, Henrik simply smiled at his friend as he truly knew there was more to Veldora than destruction and manga. Then, Henrik heard a knock on the throne rooms main doors and heard the voice of Rigurd from the outside.
"Lord Henrik, I have the ogres with me. Ranga sent word that you were ready for them."
"Veldora," Henrik said in a hurried voice, "You should be here for this. These people will all hold important positions in the nations and as our main backer, it's only right you meet them. Go sit in your sofa and watch. If you have any input, just let me know."
"Fine, but I'm reading manga while I listen," Veldora said but Henrik knew he wasn't really going to listen. Henrik then freshen himself up and straightened his tie before shouting loud enough for Rigurd to hear, "ENTER."
As two hobgoblins pushed open the doors to the chambers, Rigurd quickly guided a band of ogres inside with him. Henrik never moved his gaze away from them as they walked up, assessing each with [Raphael] as they got closer to him. When they arrived a little ways away from the small staircase leading up to the throne, Rigurd bowed.
The pink haired ogre quickly followed his lead but it was easy to tell this was out of pure respect in accordance with her personality rather than any type of loyalty. The other ogres stood very formally and tied their head a little but it was obvious this was because they didn't want to seem completely disrespected next to the pink haired one.
"Please, don't bow to me. I'm not your king," Henrik said to the pink haired ogre, "And Rigurd. You too, no need to bow." After Henrik said this, both Rigurd and the ogre girl stood up with their hands meeting behind their backs.
"Welcome my ogre friends to my nation. If you aren't aware, recently my friend and ally, the Storm Dragon Veldora, announced to the world his support of this forest becoming mine. While it's true the forest isn't technically his, given his power and long residence in the forest, the world has come to see it as his territory.
I am currently making moves to have the dryads of this forest give me their blessing as well. I'm sure you're wondering why I'm telling you this? It's simple, I want to assure you that this forest is my country before trying to recruit you.
Now, I understand that your village recently came under attack from an army of orcs. I'm truly sorry for what happened to your home, your families, it is an horrific tragedy. Why I cannot bring those you have lost back, I can offer you a home here as well as all of you a purpose."
"We were promised revenge," A red haired ogre who stood in the middle spoke up.
"Brother, don't be so rude as to interrupt a king in his own throne room," The pink haired one who bowed before said to the red haired one in a commanding tone.
"I agree with him," A purple haired one who was standing on the edge expressed, "We were told by your goblin subordinate that we'd get revenge if we came. When do we get it?"
"I understand you want vengeance. And you'll get it, but you have to have patience. I swear within a month, you'll have it. Now, I could refer to you by the colour of your hair, or I could give you names. But if you wish for names and revenge, you must first agree to join my nation and serve it to the best of your abilities."
"And if we do, we'll avenge our village?" An elderly ogre with grey hair asked.
"You will."
"Then we accept," The red haired one spoke up on behalf of the group after looking to his companions to see if they all agree.
"Very well. Just to clarify, this does mean you'll all become m subordinates."
"We know," The pink haired one said in a soft and calming tone.
"Good. You, red haired one. I name you, Benimaru. Pink hair, you shall be named Shuna. Blue hair, you will be named Souei. Purple hair, you are Shion. Elderly man, you shall be Hakurou. And finally, tallest one, you shall be Kurobe."
As Henrik said this, he could feel magicules be drained from him and flow into the ogres. Once it did, all six of them fell to the ground and fainted. Their evolutions in Kijin had begun.
"Rigurd, I designated rooms for them in the castle and their names, like all personal quarters have the names etched into the doors. Please see to it their put to bed."
"Yes my lord. Is there anything else you'd like for me to do?"
"Actually, while you're here. Tell Gobwa I'm assigning him to be Shuna's assistant. Tell him it's a reward for his amazing performance on the mission, especially since he continued it when Rigur left to come help me."
"Yes Lord Henrik."
As Rigurd was taking the resting kijin to their rooms, Henrik asked Veldora to meet him in one of the private meeting rooms connected to the throne room. When they were alone, Henrik told Veldora all that had happened in Dwargon and asked to him if he remembers anyone at alll that fit Chloe's descrption.
"No. I think I'd remember someone that powerful. Actually, now you mention it. There was this one weird thing that stands out."
"What is it?" Henrik asked as he took a seat.
"Well, about three hundred years ago, there was this human adventurer. A hero. One blessed by the queen of the elementals. When I was going about my business saying hello to a kingdom a litle ways soulth of here, she showed up. We fought for a while but in the end I killed her.
Here's the weird part, I remember everything about her. I could even tell you every single detail of the fight. But I can't," Veldora says before Henrik interjects, "You can't describe her face. Was she wearing a mask at all?"
"Nope. I just can't remember her face, like it's a blur in my memories. Something I'm not allowed to remember. Ahh well, I beat her so easily I probably just purged her face from my head."
"Yeah, maybe. Thanks Veldora."
"Of course, Anything for my manga supplier, I mean good friend. Well, best clean my room now. Not for the manga, but since you made it," Veldora said as he quickly left the room with a fake smile on his face.
"So, Rimuru doesn't exist, Shizu remembers the hero and has the mask. Veldora remembers fighting Chloe, but somehow won and killed her. But if he killed her, Shizu wouldn't have met her as it was over 200 years later. Plus, neither of them can remember her face.
It's as if their memories have been purged, anything pertaining her looks as been removed. But why, and when did it happen? If Veldora's memories were altered at all when he was inside [Stomach], I'd know. And it can't have been before otherwise Shizu would've been freaked out sooner and not have been in Dwargon.
So something happened between me meeting Shizu and her fight. Something to Chloe. And what's scarier, is that it's capable of affecting a True Dragon. I have to figure it out and quick, otherwise who knows what'll happen?" Henrik thinks to himself.
Suddenly, Henrik hears a knock at the door.
"It's me, I've brought the kids to meet you."
It was Shizu's voice. She must have gotten the students here using [Instant Motion] after gathering up enough energy overnight.
"Come in," Henrik shouted as he thought to himself, 'Moment of truth. Let's meet Chloe and see what's going on."
Shizu opened the door and five kids came running into the room and around the room. Henrik was able to quickly identify them, Kenya, Gale, Ryota and Alice. He knew them all instantly. But when he looked at the fifth student, he saw something wrong.
The young girl standing in front of him had short red hair, brown eyes and she exuded an evil aura that Henrik could only feel slightly as it was clear she was holding it in. This young girl wasn't Chloe.
