Chapter 88 - Otto, in Waiting
St. Freya Academy, in the corridor leading to the database.
"Ahead is the place you're looking for."
A rather charming voice sounded.
The source of the voice was a beautiful young woman with short, ash-blonde hair that covered her left eye, and wine-red pupils.
This person was none other than the perfectly stylish pervert—the Scum Maid, Rita.
This top-tier Valkyrie, theoretically directly under the Schicksal Overseer, stood before the young man who shared her similarly red eyes, guiding the way.
"Thanks, Rita."
The magus, who always had the tachi named Jizo Mitama hanging at his waist, thanked Miss Maid.
"It's nothing, this is my duty."
The maid, who had chatted quite a bit while guiding Li Zihan and heard some very interesting information, let the corners of her mouth curve up slightly, exuding a captivating charm.
For example, the Apocalypse scandals, the account deletion incidents, Otto's daily slacking off to play Kallen Fantasy, his obsession with the Anti-Entropy-produced anime series Heavy Armor Mecha Al-Ahlat, and even buying a pile of figurines...
"Besides, being with you is truly enjoyable."
Miss Maid, feeling she could perhaps organize this information and send it to the Overseer in a special format, chuckled softly and spoke.
As a Scum Maid, upon hearing that Lord Otto was actually very concerned about his public image, an idea had sprouted in her mind.
For example, blackmailing the Overseer, or perhaps, blackmailing the Overseer, or maybe even blackmailing the Overseer...
"What kind of name do you think would suit a composed and calm woman, who also possesses a hint of cunning?"
Miss Maid, sensing that there might be a lot of fun to be had next, asked the young man with whom she had hit it off right away.
"Irene Adler, how about that name?"
Whether intentionally or not, the young man spoke a name that had quite a connection to Miss Rita.
"I think, Miss Rita, if you were to grow your hair long, this name would suit you very well."
"Irene Adler, hmm?"
Miss Rita savored the name, a slight smile gracing her lips.
Irene Adler was from "A Scandal in Bohemia" in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
She was a contralto, had worked in the Italian opera, and was once the prima donna of the Imperial Opera of Warsaw before retiring from the stage.
The King of Bohemia had a youthful affair with her. Later, Sherlock Holmes was commissioned by the King to retrieve a photograph of him with her, which she possessed.
However, she detected Holmes's plan and, with her newlywed husband Godfrey, rushed to the Temple and left London overnight.
Even the great detective Sherlock Holmes couldn't retrieve that photograph.
Undoubtedly, she was a character who was extremely composed and calm, yet did not lack feminine grace and charm.
"Quite fitting."
Miss Maid, feeling she could use this name for her future activities, her eyes sparkling, smiled enchantingly.
The time for action shall be set for after I grow my hair long.
"I also think this name suits you very well."
The young man, already gripping the Twelfth Divine Key, smiled and walked shoulder to shoulder with Rita to the front of the database.
"Alright, I cannot accompany you on the path ahead."
Miss Rita, having reached the entrance of the database, stopped, bowed to the Overseer's guest, and then stepped back.
"Yes, I understand."
The young man, who hadn't spent much time with Rita but had a very good rapport with her, thanked Miss Maid for guiding him.
======== Break Line ========
Somewhere within the data-materialized Schicksal database.
The library, formed from countless data-materialized bookshelves, had already transformed into a building with a strong European medieval style.
A flagstone path stretched to the horizon, vibrant green plants flourished, and virtual sunlight shone warmly on the ground, giving a bright and pleasant feeling.
It was hard to imagine that all of this was false, things simulated by data.
The Schicksal library, which had inherited the black technology of the previous era, had, under the command of a certain man awaiting his guest, materialized into Vienna from five hundred years ago.
The handsome, blond man sat before the shop where he often had afternoon tea and pastries with Kallen in his youth, enjoying the five-hundred-year-old sunlight and surveying the surrounding scenery.
Honestly, at this not-so-leisurely time, he should have been in the laboratory, contemplating the enlightenment God had given him during the Second Honkai Eruption, and then waiting for Rita to bring the so-called "target" back to Vienna.
However, news from Rita had disrupted his routine.
Schicksal S-rank Valkyrie Rita had been defeated.
The target, relying on a spatial movement ability that showed no signs of activation and an armament suspected to be a Divine Key, had crushed Rita with almost irresistible force.
Is it a powerful character similar to Durandal?
The answer was no.
Rita's report explicitly mentioned that the fellow's control over Honkai energy was abysmal; he was practically wasting Honkai energy.
Someone who couldn't even control their own power was clearly not in the same league as Durandal.
That fellow was able to defeat Rita because of the combination of his special spatial ability and the unique armament called Jizo Mitama.
Between these two, the latter posed a greater threat to Rita, but it was the former that attracted more of Otto's attention.
The ability of the so-called suspected Divine Key could erode technological creations, which was terrifying.
However, without that unannounced and undetectable spatial movement ability, Rita would not have been defeated so easily.
The Shadow Knight: Iron, connected to the research lab, had not detected any rise in Honkai energy when he used spatial movement.
Was it because it was well-concealed?
Or was the source of that power not Honkai energy at all?
A profound thoughtfulness flickered in Otto's deep green eyes.
He wouldn't forget the sentence mentioned in Rita's report.
"I need to go back to my hometown and find something that can make him believe in 'time travel'."
Furthermore, this fellow claimed to be from an organization called the "Clock Tower," an organization about which even the entirety of Schicksal couldn't find a single clue.
An organization that didn't exist in this world, a spatial movement ability that didn't require Honkai energy to activate, a hometown that seemed to possess time travel technology, a Divine Key with no records whatsoever...
"A traveler from a world bubble?"
Otto, who had vaguely guessed something, murmured in a low voice.
If that were the case, all of this could be understood.
The eyes of the man, who had conducted countless experiments for Kallen and had become accustomed to failure, even forgetting what disappointment felt like, flickered.
That person represented a civilization system completely different from the world he was in.
Different systems obviously had different development paths, holding different possibilities.
And when two different systems collided, the possibilities they brought could be unimaginably numerous.
Among them, perhaps, there might be a possibility of reviving Kallen.
Otto Apocalypse sat quietly at the table, a rare light of longing appearing on his face.
